Do you really want them to do a rap song? Seriously?? You kids are killing me. I'm actually feeling chest pains right now. Yes I do. A rap-funk-rock song (think Red Hot Chilli Peppers even). I have an open mind. I don't pigeon hold myself down and only listen to one generic genre of music. When things are done right, it's awesome. So yeah, there are no rules saying they can't do a rap song. I think they should just to see people go all Exorcism and start turning their heads all around. And them doing ASH pt 2 is like taking two steps backwards. It's already been done, and if they did it, it would really be ASH pt 2 and nothing else. Why do a shitty sequel to an awesome thing, when you can be original and maybe make something BETTER than what you already did? I'd be disappointed if they reverted back to that. I like OBTN. I didn't have a problem with it personally, so for all you lovers of OBTN, you're not alone. I just want to seem them challenge themselves and do something they haven't done instead of doing what they've already done, and what we know they can do. They finally have some of the world listening, now it's time to really give them a reason to stay around. If people want ASH, then go buy it and listen to it on repeat. That sounded like a mini-rant. Oops... First of all, I like all types of music too. Implying that I'm close-minded and like only generic music just because I don't want them to do a rap song is stupid. They're southern boys from Tennesee for crying out loud -they don't have one rap bone in their body!! If they attempted a rap song they'd look like fools. And I don't agree with you that a band has to totally re-invent themselves and change their sound with every single album just so you don't get bored. If it ain't broke....don't fix it.

I'm with you chichi!! I dont think going back to an ASH/BOTT sound would be a step back, not if they take what they've learned since, put it all together and come up with an even better album than we've heard before but one thats more akin to ASH than OBTN!! I do like OBTN but when it comes to the crunch its my least favourite album and like chichi said, if it aint broke etc.!!
And again...........................no rap for me, thank you kindly! And I wouldnt much like collaboration with a rapper either!!

I agree with everyone who is all for change. Me personally i didnt even like KOL until i heard OBTN. What happens when a band puts out the same cd every time for their whole career? You get AC/DC Seriously i cant tell the stuff from the 70's from the new stuff,i cannot believe they sell out arenas within days. *shakes head* You don't even need a brain to listen to them.

...I thought everyone was just kidding about Kings doing a rap song! I think that would be a terrible idea for them to actually do. I don't think I'd be able to respect them if they did because that's just not them or what they are about.

Ahh you didn't like them UNTIL OBTN?? Oh man that really makes me sad. Everyone's entitled to like whatever they want and I'm just glad you like them but really this one? None of their albums sound similar to the last and they have changed and grown with each album but OBTN is just terrible. It almost doesn't even sound like them because it's so cheesy and popish to me. It sounds like every other band on the radio and that's not what Kings are about, they're better than that.

*shrugs* Remember, just 10 yrs ago, they didn't even know what rock music was. Is it really that big of a deal, liking OBTN? Are those who do like that album any lesser a fan than those who liked them from the beginning? What exactly are people trying to prove when they try and belittle someone for liking this particular album? (I'm generalizing here, so no one take it personal) I want a Prince collaboration more than I do the rap song... I guess I was hoping more people would really want them to do something new, different, and exciting. It's kind of disappointing, reading so many people wanting that "ASH-sound". It's a kickass album, but they've already done it. I wasn't trying to start something (drama) though I do stand by the rap song called "Wassup" (because no one has given me a good reason why they can't do it). People are afraid of change clearly.
Anyone ready for OBTN pt 2? That was a joke...

I agree with whoever said NO PART II ANYTHING!! Sequels always suck girls. There's a difference between rockin out and pure ASH; and I believe the boys can make us wanna dance around naked without having to revert back to that album! Hurrah for new stuff! (oh and don't take this personal! just statin my opinion on the matter )

Oooo, Santogold!!! Can the Neptunes co-produce it? Cuz you know, they come up with some awesome beats. It wouldn't be straight up rap. It would be like a funk-rock hybrid.

Are those who do like that album any lesser a fan than those who liked them from the beginning? What exactly are people trying to prove when they try and belittle someone for liking this particular album? (I'm generalizing here, so no one take it personal) just to clarify I'm not trying to belittle anyone for liking OBTN. I get that alot of people love the album and that's fine and all. I just find it hard for myself that is, to truly appreciate the album because it doesn't sound like them and I feel there's no heart in it (except for songs like Cold Desert). The rest in my opinion, is just manufactured and I feel that it's such a departure from the originality that they had before. When people say they want the "Aha Shake" sound, it's not that we want them to come out with the same album we just want that balls to walls pure rock sound back that Aha perfected. I know the boys are capable of doing an album BETTER than Aha Shake it's just a matter of when. I think all us Kings fans want something new and exciting every album and so far KOL have been giving us better albums each time (with this exception but again that's just ME). It's not a matter of anyone being afraid of change for the boys because I personally think they change their sound every album but still keep the same style. However a rap album I think is just ridiculous. I would never want to hear them put down their instruments or completely change their genre. I love Kings of Leon because I think they are the greatest rock group to come out in years and you can still experiment and change up things while staying true to your origins... look at Radiohead, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, etc.,

As long as they don't get Timbaland to clone...oops, I mean produce anything, I'll be chuffed. If the album has at least one scream, at least one line that sounds like "you can perlay with me-ee-e-eeeeeee" and at least one "yeah" a la Dusty I can die a happy woman.

And I don't agree with you that a band has to totally re-invent themselves and change their sound with every single album just so you don't get bored. If it ain't broke....don't fix it. Jasmine, I agree with what you say because I believe like many of us do that this band has such potential we shouldn't be placing limits on them - however I also agree with chichi - rap is a step too far. As far as we know from interviews etc they don't even listen to it! Unless they can pull off a truly kickass rap song no one should have respect for it and I don't believe they could do that. If they ever did and proved me wrong fair play. Like chichi I do not want these boys we tend to think of as OURS to look like fools, we none of us do. I want them to produce something amazing - yes, that masterpiece! and whilst I truly want to love it that's more important than whether I do or not. I want them to be amazing in whatever way they want to be whether I like it or not. Of course I have a preference, I would like the next album to rock more - OBTN is my least favourite album but not simply because it doesn't rock as much, some of it I think is substandard for them, some of it is absolutely brilliant- and the change in sound is part of that. ASH is not just my favourite album, it is one of the three things that has got me through 4 years of poor health and a life on hold - I am passionate about it but I for one do not want a repeat of it. As a lyricist Caleb has a very individual ability - he is fantastic. It isn't so much what he writes about, but how he writes about it. For that reason I do not mind more songs about sex or whatever if they are good. Caleb's lyrics about sex are seldom just about sex. Even Soft is not really just about sex, but sex is the hook its hanging on. Caleb has the ability to write lyrics that reward attention, there's often more to them than is on the surface. Aside from a few tracks I don't think much of OBTN approaches the lyrical brilliancy of ASH. One of the things I would like from their next album - which I don't want rushed - is consistently strong lyrics. It's part of what gives this band its depth. Oh and Prince - he's a phenomenon - but when I want to listen to Prince I know where to find him. I'd like the Kings to find their own way - they have so much to build on I'm really curious to find out what that will be.

You guys are missing the point. I like their sound. If I didn't like their sound, I wouldn't be here now. There's a difference between having a unique sound where a person can go "that's a Kings of Leon song" without ever hearing it, and just making the same thing over again. Big ass difference. It's a thing called "evolving", not tying your music to just one sound because it's safe and all you know, and you know that you can do it well. Forgive me (or maybe don't forgive me) for wanting them to take their "sound" (not their music) and do something new with it. Something innovative. I guess it's funny about the Prince comment because that's exactly how I feel about ASH. If people want that, buy it and listen to it, but don't make them do ASH pt 2. Judging from the posts, that's all people want. I guess they can revert back to that and just make another album with songs that mirror that album. But something tells me the minute they do that, most of you will go "this sounds exactly like songs that never made it to ASH...not really a new album" or "it's good, but I was expecting something more". But when I said a rap-funk-rock song, most of you only saw "rap", ignoring the other bits (and instilling all the negative stereotypes that goes along with that one word), which is just as vital. It would have still been rock, it would have been groovy, and let's get real for a second: it's not my decision to make. So no matter what I say here, they are going to make the album THEY want to make. I'm glad so many of you are getting all passionate about this silly idea, but that's really all it is and most likely will be. An idea. Extra Side Note: Though if they actually went ahead and started really experimenting and doing things many of you see as improper and down right wrong, I would still support them.
