Quite a few of my friends don't like it.
I don't know why, though, it's amazing.

I do not know how I've missed this thread. Yeah. I first heard the intro on this very cheap CD player in the bedroom. I couldn't believe that the sound of it would surprise me so much. I took it off pretty quick because I wanted to hear it on a better player but that first blast was pure surprise. That's what it is with me, KOL are surprise, even within what they already do, there's this new stuff. And people don't like that. Some people don't. They want to know exactly what they're getting. I've seen so many bands just sit back and do more and more of what they already did, because that's what they think they have to do, or out of laziness, because they've got where they want to be. So many bands just say, okay, now we have to get heavier each time to prove we are still heavy and not going soft. That's death to the creativity. It happens so often. I think it is to their credit that they refuse that kind of dull response. They will still be making different and worthwhile records for years to come if they can shut their ears to some of what's being said. This was bound to happen, it's like the undertow after the big wave and there's no way they could escape it, they just have to wait for the stupidity to die down. Closer, though. Served up just that kind of thing which can only come from playing around with the sound and that's creativity. But it can never be exactly what people expect it to be. That's the joy of it. Clarksville - I agree with every single thing you've said. I've made comments elsewhere about this song which don't need repeating here, but as you say - original, different, atmospheric - what an album opener! Made my older daughter really listen to this yesterday whilst she was baking, left the kitchen an hour or so later with her singing along to this with the lyrics, with the album on repeat. She loves this song now. Thanks for the thread, karma from me when I can Thanks, ticboo!

Yeah they are good. not as good as KoL, though. My feelings about this track haven't changed, I got such a huge kick out of it yesterday.

On Sky 1 they were previewing the new episode of Fringe and guess what they were playing? Yup, Closer.
After they played Crawl at the Madrid Masters I was shocked, but now it seems that their music is popping up everywhere.

I dont know about the rules for resurrecting old threads but i have to do it for this one!! Closer is their best song i think, and no matter how many more i hear,it's still my favorite. I love it for all the same reasons you guys listed,it puts you into another world and you either drop your jaw or you close your eyes and get into it,i agree with you all about this!!! And i just listened to that radio interview,WOW....i dont even know where to begin! I never knew Matt "sang" into his guitar for Closer and now i love the song even more!! I love it when bands do that!! One of my other favorite bands,Switchfoot, they have been doing it for a few years,he actually sings into it though, you can tell it's his voice...with Matt i was like 'whoa that doesnt sound like his actual voice doing that',but cool anyway! I laughed SO hard when Jared said Caleb just spelled "desert" wrong and it was really "cold dessert" LMAO These guys are the funniest! And Matt did his breathy thing again when he talks,i LOVE that!! I'm so glad they love vampires too,the original Lost Boys (not that crappy remake) is one of the best movies ever. ahhhhh i love KOL so much

^^The Lost Boys is one of my ABSOLUTE favourite films!! hahahahha!! and i'm so glad they love vampires...i love VAMPIRES! and i was always searching for songs that were vampirey and stuff but they were all kind of gay...it was quite disappointing... ...then i read that MY FAVOURITE band has written a song ABOUT A VAMPIRE!!! i nearly died...and when i heard it MY GOD! Closer is PERFECTION!

When i first heard the album for the first time, this song blew me away, what an opener! then i heard it a few more times and i've sort of gone off it recently :/ sure it'll worm its way back in tho. love how Matt sings into his pickups, you can kinda hear his voice with the guitar effects and listening to that xfm link. think one must pay a visit to Oklahoma. long overdue for me to torment that city. hahaa. what a voice!!!!!!!!! (seriously, wish Jared would shut the fck up ocassionally i never knew it was about vampires!
