^^ yep good ol talented Nacho, www.nme.com/news/kings-of-leon/39965The first time I heard the album, I put this song straight on repeat cause I was sooo amazed. Such a good opener and can't wait to hear it live. So they get their cousin to help them out on this track. Don't you just think this band is too good to be true? And Closer is real moreish, isn't it? Totally! Almost every time I've listened to the album so far I've had to repeat Closer 2-3 times before I move onto the next song. It's such a brilliant song!

man, i seriously can't get over how much i fucking love this song. It's kinda like a King of the Rodeo song for me...i can play it over and over and over and every time i hear it, i love it even more...
i played it the other night at a friend's party after we had all had a few drinks and, no joke, they were all either sitting there with their jaws to the floor or with their eyes closed totally taking the music in...it was amazing. I think that's the power this song has...even if you're not a KOL fan, you can't help but bop your head and appreciate this song.

I do not know how I've missed this thread. Yeah. I first heard the intro on this very cheap CD player in the bedroom. I couldn't believe that the sound of it would surprise me so much. I took it off pretty quick because I wanted to hear it on a better player but that first blast was pure surprise. That's what it is with me, KOL are surprise, even within what they already do, there's this new stuff. And people don't like that. Some people don't. They want to know exactly what they're getting. I've seen so many bands just sit back and do more and more of what they already did, because that's what they think they have to do, or out of laziness, because they've got where they want to be. So many bands just say, okay, now we have to get heavier each time to prove we are still heavy and not going soft. That's death to the creativity. It happens so often. I think it is to their credit that they refuse that kind of dull response. They will still be making different and worthwhile records for years to come if they can shut their ears to some of what's being said. This was bound to happen, it's like the undertow after the big wave and there's no way they could escape it, they just have to wait for the stupidity to die down. Closer, though. Served up just that kind of thing which can only come from playing around with the sound and that's creativity. But it can never be exactly what people expect it to be. That's the joy of it. Clarksville - I agree with every single thing you've said. I've made comments elsewhere about this song which don't need repeating here, but as you say - original, different, atmospheric - what an album opener! Made my older daughter really listen to this yesterday whilst she was baking, left the kitchen an hour or so later with her singing along to this with the lyrics, with the album on repeat. She loves this song now. Thanks for the thread, karma from me when I can
