At the moment I'm trying to lose weight by eating healthily and excercise so I thought I'd start a thread so people can give me, and others, tips for excercise and food.
I'm currently doing Weight Watchers and have lost 19 pound and I'm finding it fine but sometimes I'm stuck for dinner ideas. I keep making the same meals, which is getting a bit repetitive. So any tips?

Karma for making this thread Ruth. I'm also trying to lose weight. I've been doing a hour workout a night (gonna rest at the weekends though). I haven't really stopped eating a great deal though yet, cos I figured I wouldn't have the energy to exercise if I did I'll carry on with the workouts then gradually reduce my calorie intake. How does Weight Watchers work, isn't it something to do with counting points? I did think about joining it a while ago but I didn't want to pay to join and then not carry on with it if I didn't like it.

oooh thanks for the thread i though about doing one as there seemed to be lots of us interested in either diet or excersice or both.
yeah tracy^ its counting points that are based on calories and saturated fat, there isnt much you cant eat except decent cheese is super high in points! iv found it quite easy really iv lost 20lb and have only had to adapt the meals i cooked before and have found millions of great new recipes combined with doing more and some different types of excercise which has been fun mostly. if you like soups and stews at this time of year like i do then its really easy.

Some good ways to lose weight (although these may be quite obvious...) - Drink lots and lots of water. Limit your salt intake by not using salt and buying low sodium foods (such as soups or broth in a can) If you like canned fruit, buy it in juice, not syrup. Eat 5-6 small meals a day instead of 2-3 larger meals. Just some pearls of wisdom I've picked up over the years...........

Kim and Ruth, did either of you join weight watchers online or do you go to a club?
I'm seriously thinking about doing it........also do you both have enough energy for exercise or do you tire easily?

I've tried lots of different diets and stuff before but I've never been able to stick to anything. I always end up crash dieting before a holiday or something.
But I've set myself the goal of getting in shape for next summer so I've got long enough to be realistic. I don't really want to lose weight just be fitter and more toned.
Anyone got any tips for exercise that they like that doesn't involve going to the gym? I do plan on going to the gym but I don't really like it so I don't want to rely on that.

Chewing gum works for me because I don't want to eat while I have it but for some people it makes them more hunry because while it's in your mouth your stomach is expecting food.

Well I've lost about 21 kg (like 46 pounds?) just eating healthy, no junk food, no sodas, drinking lots of water and exercising.
People says chewing gum just makes you hungry but it works for me, I'm a Trident addict. Aaaand also a Clight addict, I used to drink Coke all the time and now I just drink Clight haha.

Karma for this thread Ruth - i love all this kinda stuff!!
All the advice so far sounds great - some stuff i do know:
If you get hungry try drinking a large glass of water or fruit juice (good for the skin too!)
I tend to snack on flavoured ice cubes instead of biscuits etc
Eating 6 small meals throughout the day instead of 3 bigger ones increases your metabolism
Spread your exercise out throughout the day - instead of doing an hour once a day try breaking it down into 4 sections of 15 minutes - it also increases your metabolism and the amount of calories you burn
Also eating lots of different types of foods reduces cravings - sometimes your body tells you that your hungry but really its just craving a particular thing like vitamin c/protein etc

Thanks for all the advice ladies Tracy well done on joining WW and if you need any help PM me. 21 points is not bad. I started in 21, now down to 20. I find it difficult to stick within the 20 the nights I go out but at least you won't have the alcohol concerns! So, anyone know the average amount of calories people should burn off in a work out? At the moment I've started to burn off 500 four times a week. That sound about normal?
