Whiskers, you'll be proud of me too - I now know what floor toms and ride cymbals are and can tell upbeats from offbeats - all in the name of showing the rhythm section some love ( ) No one round here need feel dirty and wrong - no way The Bucket IS like surfing. And Four Kicks is like showjumping on an imaginary horse in the garden when you are 7. I think you win on cool. I haven't listened to any KOL for a while - I wanted to get a bit of distance and freshness before June. Yesterday I gave in and listened to ASH, and again today. When Where Nobody Knows stops (I'm listening to Rememo now) I'm not allowed to listen to it again But damn it's good!!! It's just brilliant!!! I also listened to Sex on Fire yesterday - the first time I've heard it for WEEKS and it sounds really good!! I was a bit surprised how good. I think it must have suffered from overexposure.

Whiskers, I'm always proud of you too btw! xxx Offbeats, upbeats, downbeats etc - try "Beat ( music)" on wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beat_(music)AND THEN GO LISTEN TO THE BUCKET!!! (I posted you a really long explanation but deleted it cos I think I've got enough of a geeky reputation around here already without me making it worse!!)

o wow. that's like majorly fckn confusing HAHAHAA it's like a dyslexics nightmare. lol. but thanks anyway i'll give it another go or maybe i'll jst listen to the bucket and pretend to get it. it will involve staring at nathan tho, which could be an issue but i'll try my damnest to cope with the immense pressure of such a task. btw have you noticed my killing of his drum thread? it's a massacre, so dnt you worry bout yr reputation everyone can shelter under my wings, i'm a big turd head and ya can't beat that! even with yr geekiness, madam (which i actually havn't noticed but i'm begininning to make less and less sense so i shld prob' skidaddle outta 'ere MWAH!!

drum threads dead?? what does that mean?? I'll investigate in a minute.
pretending is good, cos thats intuitive, and it's all just beats (and they're all in the bucket) which don't need explaining really anyway, except maybe by air drumming and dancing. I just needed to know that I could understand if I wanted to.
drum thread - it's piquing my curiosity - gotta go look. x
well I've been and looked - who'd have thought such simple words would have had such power. Sarahrose rescued him, good job she was watching his ass or who knows where he'd a ended up. page 3?

I’ve been listening to Trunk a lot lately and it’s always reminded me of something and I just couldn’t put my finger on what but then last night I think I got it! I’m gonna sound mad but it reminds me of David Lynch films/TV shows – mostly Twin Peaks and Lost Highway. I was listening to the Twin Peaks theme and the bass effect/sound is very similar which in a fangirl way I love! Lost Highway comes into it as more as kind of imagery to the song. I don’t know if any of you have seen it but there are lots of shots of a pitch black highway and all you can see is a car driving and the lights showing the road and that’s the kind of image I get with Trunk ‘ one mile to go, on down the road’. Any one else know what I’m talking about and get the similarities?

Trunk is just the most amazingly underrated song. I haven't seen the thing you're talking about, but it is a song with heaps of imagery attatched to it... When I can't sleep (happens frequently with exams etc) I just listen to trunk and its wierd cause it makes me really sad, but also very relaxed and I sleep well. On the whole, I just love, and find it incredible, that their songs can take on so much meaning, and influence my moods so much. I pretty much always have music on, I don't really care what it is and often I don't really pay attention to it, its just there. However, every now and then I just get struck by something really surprising, and the song just takes over. And it really only happens with KoL, and to a lesser extent Radiohead. There isn't a single song by our boys that hasn't done that to me at least once. And seriously, next time you feel down, tired, fed up or whatever, listen to Trunk, then Talihina Sky, then Manhattan, then the original California Waiting. Works a treat. That'll be $10 for that advice.... I should start a 4-steps-to-happiness programme!

I know what you mean about Trunk, it’s relaxing but dramatic at the same time. I read somewhere that it’s about someone tied up in the trunk of a car? Not sure what the whole story is but that seems to fit.
I love the fact that you can look into practically every KOL song in depth and still come up with no clear answers!!

Caleb said that Trunk is about a dead woman in a man's trunk. The man loved her so obsessively, that he killed her, and now he is driving around. A happy little song Agreed that it's probably one of the most under-rated songs. It's phenomenal.

Yesterday I've cried listening to "The Runner". What's wrong with me? I've had a really difficult day at University and listening to it was kinda like "the last drop of water". The way he sings it... the melody, the lyrics... everything is so beautiful about this song.

^^^ It's so Jim Morrison like! Parts of it remind me so much of Riders on the Storm.
