another thing to bear in mind when listening to this album is that this album probalby more than any other knigs album has had the most leaks as in songs bein avaliable before its release. also the kings played some of these songs live recently. so a few of the songs hav been about for a while
a lot of us had heard crawl, manhattan, sex on fire, reverly at things like the radion 1 gig, glastonbury and so on.
so can u imagine havin not heard any of the songs when listenin to it for the 1st time? maybe people would be more appreciative, cause some people are sittin down to listen to a new album but in fact probably only 5 or 6 songs are actually new to them, this is why i think some people are dissapointed in it. hope u guys understand wat im tryin to say

^^Same!! Black on black who's smart idea was that?! But apart frm that I'm absolutely loving the new album! Yeah it's completely different to YAYM ect.. but the fact that they have the talent to produce 4 records that bear no resemblance to each other nd still manage to be as brilliant or even more brilliant than the previous 1, is amazing! OBTN is just another example of how musically versatile they are!

I fuckin love the new album iv listened to it about 5 times now .......... and im totally sold on 17 and Notion, hope they grow on everyone whos not so keen at the moment. My Fav song is still Crawl! I understand when people describe it as slow, but i just feel like Caleb is so much more confident with the words hes singing and its coming from the heart .... Cold Desert is just beautiful. You cant really compare it to Arizona though ... there both totally different. I think its been produced really well ... you can hear ever sound they make Sharon i agree why oh why does the sleeve have to have writing like that!!! You need a ruler if you wanna learn the words cos i get lost when i reach the end of a line! Anyway enough of my view ............... im in lurve with it !

There are a few topics out there, but I'll say mine right here. I dislike the album. I'm not going into it too much because what's the point? It's just the sloooooow peculiar sound that I don't like and not get yet. Maybe I will some day. I could one day just think, OMG I get it now, I am in love. I'll have to listen to it frequently, but I just don't feel like it. The rawlessness and the lack of 'rock' keeps me skeptical. I don't feel these tears of emotion that many speak of. I like to rock out and get emotional doing just that. I'll always cherish their previous work. im sorry to say but i completely agree i'll have to listen to it again to make up my mind completely. but i find myself not wanting to listen to it again. at least for tonight anyway. i hope i feel different tomorrow. i really do

I could listen to this album all day. To be honest I can see myself loving pretty much anything KOL do (within reason of course). And I was so skeptical about this album, but the way it moved me, his voice, the experimenting, how amazing Cold Desert is despite his drunken state! I love how they haven't gone back and recorded this. I don't know much about instruments etc, but the way they use theirs.. so amazing. And so breathtaking! I am more in love with them then I ever have been. I have never been so excited about a CD release. Long live the Kings!

I love it. I've only listened to it in full once but I know that like all their other albums I'll be addicted to it and its unlikely I'll listen to much else for a while as I know the more I listen the more I'll find to love about it (it's only been recently that I've realised how much I love California Waiting).
Closer is amazing, especially as an opener, the music is just so haunting.
Use Somebody = beautiful.
Revelry I first heard this when they played on Zane Lowe's show and I loved it instantly whereas it took me a bit of time to get used to 'Crawl' and 'Sex...'. I can't help laughing at the first line though - 'what a night for a dance, I'm a dancing machine' - I just can't get the image of Caleb dancing out of my head.
17/Notion I seem to be pretty much alone (so far) in liking both of these songs a lot. Notion is probably one of my favourites.
Frontier City The only song I'm unsure about. I think I may have to listen to it a few more times before I like it.
I know that a lot of people feel a bit disappointed by the increasing commercialism and more polished sound of the band, but for me they can do no wrong.
I absolutely adore this band.

I love Notion but it had been said to be about people dissing the band, but in the home vid Caleb said it was about him being a dick when he's pissed? Can't really hear what he's singing tho so.. Frontier land is the one that is most different from everything else and previous stuff. I like it but prefer Beneath the surface. Perhaps they should have been the other way round.

Have you seen them play Spiral Staircase live recently? I have. It's still them and they haven't lost that. Best song live ever. With the exception of 17 (if it didn't have the bells, and they made more of the main chorus theme and that sound with just the bass and drums which really works, i would love it), the album is a great album, if i consider all the other albums that are out right now. The Kings are still at the top of their game, i just would have preferred one or two more 'rockier' uptempo songs i can dance crazily to. But the more and more times i listen to the album, i love it more and more. It's still my least favourite, but that doesn't mean it's a bad album in my view.

This is it, as it happens.
01: closer.
Uh-huh. Classic. Love it. Yeah, no, this is it.
I love those pulse shots and cymbal crash. Yeah. Heavy enough for me. This is kinda gothic almost.
Holy shit. I like. It's got the inventiveness, immediacy, just like ever before.
02: Has the world been listening to the same album as me? Crawl. This is pretty powerful Big slices of noise. This is heavy but it falls back to something quite grown-up in between, doesn't it? It's kind of heavy metal in smart suits or something. In a good way.
