Mm.. Its definitely grown on me. And you're right peps there are a few bad ass songs. Its just that the pace and feel of the album is so different. I'd say "Closer" and "I want you" are my favourite new songs (not counting crawl, manhattan, sex on fire and use somebody because I'd hear them all pleanty of times before I heard the entire record. I'm still not sold on "Notion" or "17" and I don't think I ever will be. They're a bit like "Camaro" was on BOTT for me, like I'll listen and have a sing-along but it seems kinda silly in comparison to their other songs.

uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Su-PfHBuuV0This is what I fell in love with. Madly, deeply, intensely. Now I know this hasn't been KOL for a looooong time and they probably were under the influence of something illegal back then, but damn I just like that kind of rockin out and I'm not going to conform to this new sound which I absolutely don't dig just because they're happy now. I'm glad that they are, but when I buy a cd that's not the point. There will be more young bands that haven't lost it yet. Acknowledging is the first step to healing..or whatnot

just listened to the ablum for the 1st, cant believe the feel of this album compared to the others, so different. i think a lot of people on thier first couples of listens to this album will be dissapointed, but its only natural because of the massive build up towards the album not to mention the quality of the past 3 albums like many people i had heard a few of the songs live first, such as manhattan, reverly and use somebody, and when i listened to the album i was a bit suprised how polished these songs sounded especially matts guitar towards the end of manhattan. thats not to say its a bad thing, probably more of a tribute to the boys live shows if theres any songs im not fond of on the first listen its 17 and i want you, but i know with a few listens il love them, well thats wat i hope. it certainly doesnt rock as hard as jared seemed to say it would in an early interview, the quality of the first 6 songs is amazing, and it shows just how good this band are in that there able to release an album with songs like reverly, manhattan, crawl, cold desert etc etc only a year after thier last album much more personal and emotional side to this album highlighted by the clearness of calebs voice and people shudnt panic if this album doesnt break through to them straight away, give a bit of time and hopefully it will hit. crowns of to the kings

Just wanted to add one thing to my previous posts:
I miss the good old days some times too. But they haven't lost all that, if you know what I mean. Their young manhood may be over but they've still got it. Have you seen them play Spiral Staircase live recently? I have. It's still them and they haven't lost that. OBTN doesn't change the world.

Haha, I'm glad I actually made any sense. I could never feel like this about another band either. And i don't think I could ever stop loving KoL, even if they started making really crappy music, 'cause I love them as people too. I was like that too first, 'cause I really didn't like Notion and 17, and I was sooo scared I was gonna hate the album I just kept telling myself I loved it but then I realized I did ahah. I'm just rambling too now but anyway, thanks for the karma, I shall give you some back when I'm restored EDIT: Naah, I don't like 17... yet. I think every album has one of those songs you just don't like at first. But I don't know, I still don't like Trunk or Head To Toe, so we'll see! haha. I used to like Head to Toe, but I find it kinda boring now. And I love Trunk! But I seem to be in a minority with that one, haha. I'll probably end up loving the album, infact, I know I will! I'm actually worried about Cold Desert though, I'm not going to be able to tlisten to that in public! Earlier on, by the time it had finished it looked like someone had attacked me with a mascara brush!! oh i know exactly how you feel about Cold Desert, i can only listen to that late at night when no one can see me heh, weird how a song has such a big effect

Oh goody - seeing as y'all have put your opinions on this thread i will too. Didn't want to do it straight off - felt a bit big headed. Anyway.... I have never anticipated an albums release as much as this one and despite the fact i'd heard like half the songs already and i've heard alot of slagging, i like it...It's different for sure and that's no bad thing, i've said before that change and development is good. And i know what Sorrell and Peps are talking about when they say that they feel personally attached to the boys (the home vids have helped with that too) and I feel proud of them for producing something so brave. Personally i think it's paid off. I do feel that i might be being blinkered as i adore them but i can still see/hear things i'm not 100% about. My breakdown of the songs goes like this - Closer - my new favourite song ever by anyone. Love the melody the playing the voice the words (bit mad on all things vampire!!! Films, books etc) Crawl rocks hard - fantastic live. Who says it's not rock enough? Sex on fire - no need to add to the fact it's number one for a second week Use Somebody and Manhattan both beautiful, soulfull songs. Manhattan makes me cry (it's the music rather than the words) Revelry - is good 17 - i think the christmas bells threw me a bit. I wouldn't skip it, they all play good on it - the bass after Caleb says 'she's only 17' sounds very much, to me, like a Bowie song that's in Labrynth (don't laugh), can't get that idea out of my head Notion - the intro sounds v familiar can't place it. But a great song, i like the bass i want you - sounds like their older stuff but more polished Be Somebody - absolutely fantastic, after only a few listens it's my Nathan favourite, can't wait to listen in my car full blast and can't wait to see it live Cold Desert - did make me cry but mainly because of how vulnerable Caleb seemed talking about it in the home video - doesn't do to me what Arizona still does Frontier City - Glad i got the deluxe album The Bucket remix - *is a little sick in mouth* I think a couple of tracks do sound like someone else in parts which i have never said about any of the other albums and i don't know how i feel about that, they are good so i can't complain. They all play/sing in such a unique way that even ones that don't sound like them sounds like them, if you get me!? On another thread this was said Personally, I think the next album is gonna really rock. I think they will end up going back to at least the because of the times type of sound. I think this album is more of a Can we make it big if we wanted to? type of album for them. Who knows. And i kinda agree, however, i do love it, i've not been exposed it as much as the other obviously but won't be skipping any tracks. I do worry that some hooks are too catchy and that i'll find myself lying awake at night singing them in my head - this is the point at which i stop listening to an album - but it hasn't happened with the Y&YM, AHS or BOTT so hopefully not this either. And even if all the other songs sucked, Closer totally makes up for it. Shit... i wrote a lot

I love this album. even the ones I was"nt to sure about at first .be honet if this album does well in the u.s ,which I think it will. I would be very surprise if they would do change it for album no5 as they have already said they have 4 or5 for the next album.. I just hope they dont turn their backs on the u.k. maybe this was their hook-line and sinker album..but i definately doubt that they will turn their backs on the uk..thats their baby..i still gotta wait til tomorrow though!!

Could not agree more with you Mick, been listening all afternoon and it is just...great, 'specially Be Somebody and Closer, of course. They finished BOTT a while ago so the actual gap between them is bigger for them than us. I heard that Caleb said early on with this album that whichever song the record company said they were to release he felt confident that they would all be single material (not i want you though eh? :/) And i thought Be Somebody was the next single?

Personally, I love the album. I admire the fact that they always have the guts to completely change their sound for each album. I think that's a sure sign of incredible talent. Not many artists have the balls to do that. They take risks and I love that about them.
xx.
p.s. Am I the only one who nearly cried the first time they listened to Cold Desert? It made me want to hug Caleb.

^^ Nope, you're not the only one! First I cried to Closer, mainly 'cause it was the first OBTN-song I heard (except the ones that were already released), and then I sat there sobbing for an hour, then restrained myself and listened to it again without crying, but started crying again when I came to Cold Desert

Well, so far I love it! Apart from 17 which is a bit strange but might grow on me!
I think musically it's very impressive and I know it's different but I'm quite happy really!

right, just got home from hmv and am listening to the new album now. i made the effort not to listen to download tracks before it came out, because i wanted to listen to it as a whole, so i only knew sex on fire, crawl and a bit of use somebody. i have to say i do really like it, but i think caleb's voice is grating on me a bit. he's singing too high. sometimes it just sounds painful, and not in the whiskey soaked-love lorn way i think he intended it too. more in the "ow, my shoulder just popped out again" way. personally i think they should have waited a little bit longer until we'd fully digested BOTT, because OBTN seems almost like they re-released BOTT but with some bonus tracks. do you know what i mean? i'm not saying it's not good, i do really like it, but i wouldn't have minded waiting longer. there is the sense that it was a little bit rushed. however, i must have to say that jared's bass playing has infinately improved. his talent is really shining through. i also like the way you can see them growing up through their music. YAYM and OBTN are so far apart it's unreal. they've really matured musically and as people. haven't really decided on a standout track yet, because i've only listened to it once, but i have a 2 hour train journey tomorrow so i'll probably make up my mind then.
anyhoo, final verdict = great music as usual, but i think a few more months would have made it amazing.

Ok i'm gonna do my best to explain my view of the album! Basically i have no problems with it- i like pretty much all the songs(still not sire on 17) and love Closer, Crawl, Manhattan, Use Somebody, Revelry, Be Somebody. Overall i think Caleb's vocals sound better than ever-so clear and dominant and still have that huskiness i love. A lot of the songs are different to the other album like the sound of Revelry, I Want You etc but i like that. If they kept making the same type of album i'd most likely get bored with it and the band wouldn't progress in the music world. And the basss is as always one of my favourite things on the album! And Nate has some brilliant drum beats. However when i compare it to the other albums it's only thn that it seems not as good. ASH will always be my favourite album, i love the riffs, the short sharp songs and the bass throughout that album. Then it'd probably be BOTT for all Matt's brilliant solos and the songs like Black Thumbnail, The Runner, Camaro, Ragoo, Knocked Up etc. Still i love the album when i just judge it on what's comtained in it and not by comparing it to their previous albums. Ok there....i'm done!
