Yeah, I've already bought my ticket for the local show, I'll be buying the album the day it comes out, and in the past I've bought their tickets, albums, and singles. They'll be getting their cash out of me so I'm not going to freak out that I listened to their music, enjoyed their music, took in their music a few days in advance. After all, I'm into the band for the music they make, not because of their album art or because they look really good in tight pants.

im so bored of thsi whole arguement already.
people really need to lighten up.
im so bored and annoyed by teh self rightiousnes of half the people on here that i feel like just not bothering with this place anymore!!!
these things happen, and in a world where money is becoming tighter, things are more expensive and people have less money, its just going to happen. to quote someone above 'try before you buy'.
il be buying the kings album in a few weeks, but ive also downloaded it because i just wanted to hear it already.
so this is a good bye...i might come back in afew month or so, see if people have lightened up a little and think theyre less all mighty and have relaxed a little.

I don't think i'm mighty just cos i'm holding out? I just want to hold out.. nothing to do with whether people can/can't afford it and that I think i'm better than people? I couldn't care less if people choose to download it!

I've been given a copy by someone who downloaded it, I've listened to it a few times but have no info on what any of the tracks are called. I'm quite disappointed in it and so is my husband, and we've both been huge fans since the first album. Three reasonably good tracks - the rest are dull and unoriginal. some of the lyrics are excruciatingly unoriginal - for Christ's sake how many bands haven't done a song about some girl being only 17, 16, 18 or whatever. That track is so bad I now have to skip it. I was hoping the album would grow on me, and maybe it has a little, but it just can't compare with the earlier albums. What on earth's happened to these guys - have they lost their edge? I will still buy the album, but I hope this isn't the direction KOL are going in for all their future material.

I noticed people are saying that some of these songs can't be played live...
For synth stuff all they need to do is press play on a pre-recorded pattern or loop, I'm pretty sure they do this with Milk?
For the fade out/in towards the end of Cold Desert all the need is the FOH controller to lower the faders until all the channels are quitened and then pull them back up to the original level.
So if the Kings want to re-create the album as close to perfect in the live environment, they can.

I love you....karma!! I just think the sign of a good album/song isn't one that you have to listen to over and over and over again so it will grow on you. It should be you hear it for the first time and go, "Oh my God I've got to hear that again and again and again."

yeah i don't really see what the problem with downloading is either. I mean, if they really think that the world's going to end in 2012 then they shouldn't really care

Does anyone else kind of feel like they lied to us about this album. Remember this: Maybe I need to give the album another listen but... it doesn't rock harder and they didn't return to their southern roots. They weren't lying to us. That line about the next album rocking harder has just been endlessly re-quoted from an interview Jared did at Rock Werchter last year. They were touring BOTT at the time and weren't even writing the next album! It was just a throwaway remark, he said "it's going to rock harder, hopefully, we want to melt faces off". It's not exactly something he should be held to, like, "YO JARED! You said your new record was gonna melt faces off. Well guess what? I've heard it now AND MY FACE IS STILL INTACT! Liar! I demand a refund! " As for it going back to their Southern roots, I think that's just a matter of perception. I definitely think it sounds more Southern - it sounds a lot more like the classic Southern FM radio rock that lazy journalists used to reference than their earlier records did. I guess it depends on your idea of what 'southern' music sounds like - not everyone thinks ramalama garage rock with yowly vocals equals Southern (least of all people from the South, I imagine!).

I said before, Cold Desert sounds like Purple Rain and I got a kinda "yeah whatever" response... LISTEN to Cold Desert and then Purple Rain, the melody is similar, the chord progression is similar, the drum beat is bloody similar too! I know we've all said U2 seem like an influence on this album in certain places but no one has specifically mentioned songs other than some of the more well known U2 tracks...I have a couple of suggestions 'Mothers Of The Disappeared' and 'Exit' from The Joshua Tree, I also think I said before, Crawl sounds like 'Bullet The Blue Sky', which features on The Joshua Tree as well

I'm going to close this thread now as the album is officially out so everyone can talk about it openly.
