I think we could go round and round in circles here with some of us saying they haven't changed and give reasons for them not coming out and some of us saying that it's really upsetting that they didn't come out and you're opinion of the band has changed etc. So I'm going to get this conversation back on to the reviews of the gig. Driving many of the songs was Jared Followill's bass, which churned during "Charmer" and the popping, off-kilter "McFearless" and thrummed during "Notion" and "Cold Desert," which with its lyrical guitar and deliberate tempo was "Purple Rain" as played by the Cure. The bassist also provided a buzzing rumble on "My Party," giving it a disco flavor echoed in the pulsating "Heart of Glass" feel he gave to "Fans." How brilliant is that for a journalist to actually notice Jared's amazing bass playing and to actually comment on it? About blimmin time.

Bornagirl, handsintheair, and no1kolfan... I totally freaking agree. I clearly see a line of division and I am going to be blunt and point it out... The older fans know what to expect. Perhaps its from going to more shows and having more experiences... It seems like it sometimes. As LMS1980 says, KOL have always had a high opinion of themselves! We don't have to like it, but they've never tried to hide it...it's part of the package. They were total fuckin' assholes for a couple of years. They've never pretended otherwise. So, like we've been saying, it's up to the individual fan to deal with their expectations and disappointments outside of what they've paid the Kings for (the music and the live shows). Savanna, you're saying that you were lucky enough to meet the band back in January "before everything suddenly changed"...that was only 3 months ago and you were super-lucky to meet them, but it was your first KOL gig - surely not enough to base a pattern on? A few weeks earlier in Dublin, no fans got to meet them. In Belfast the following night they did. Likewise they didn't come out in London but they did in Glasgow a couple of nights before. I've been a fan for years and that has always been the way it goes. So I really don't see why you are so convinced that their attitudes have suddenly changed on the basis of the last 3 months? Don't get me wrong, I know their situation as a band has changed irrevocably, but that doesn't mean their attitudes towards their fans have.

My small two cents: I think, had the Kings reached the level of "success" they have now, when they first came out, what they are doing now, wouldn't seem like a shock. Not all bands are created equal. Success and notoriety changes things a lot. I don't know them, their management or their record label, but I do know one thing: I can't make or defend their actions anymore. I'm all for defending their music, but as far as some of the things they do or say off stage, I can't do that anymore. Laura, it's not your fault. We all, most of us anyway, would like a glimpse of a band offstage and off record. That's only natural. I guess for me just some recognition is all that people really want, right? I don't need autographs, giggles or laughs from artists, but some recognition would be nice on occasion. I will be seeing them this Friday and Saturday, and I'm honestly a tad skeptical about the after show. I'm sure on stage (as long as I get to hear KOTR) they will kick ass, but I think my days of waiting for them outside are probably over. Then watch me as I do it anyway, right? I knew that after MSG, the game had changed completely. Playing there is the epitome of success and I knew from that point on, things wouldn't be the same, and judging from these "trends", I was right. It's one thing to not see your fans afterwords, it's another to completely avoid them altogether. Though I love the Kings, they are not the Rolling Stones and I'm hoping that they aren't getting too big headed to the point where they oddly believe that. My two cents. I had to say something. Sue me. I'll just throw my two cents in for what it's worth and would have to say it's a little bit unfair. I know you are talking about off stage recognition but in MSG and Paris they made a point of thanking the people on stage who made such and effort/travelled far for the gigs and I'm presuming they did so at other gigs too. I love the way they do that because at the end of the day they really don't have to. Anyway that's just my opinion on it.

The bassist also provided a buzzing rumble on "My Party," giving it a disco flavor echoed in the pulsating "Heart of Glass" feel he gave to "Fans." Heart of Glass! It's not the same, but this is acually true - weird, but true. I never saw that coming. What a refreshing change to have a reviewer who actually listens to the music.

I'm still reeling over 'Cold Desert' being "Purple Rain as played by the Cure"! Bang on!

Oh man, I couldn't read past page 12 of this thread so I'm sorry if I miss anything or repeat something someone has already said but: Cass & Jen, I think u guys have every right to be disappointed and to talk about it here and I'm sorry u guys were so upset. I think I would be disappointed too but I guess the way Ive been looking at it is that things change when bands get bigger, they have to be more careful about what they do, I bet more people than ever want a piece of them and I imagine they'd have to learn/begin to put up more personal boundaries to maintain any hope of personal space and time. Perhaps not meeting fans after gigs is part of that. Or, they are complete ass holes! But, I doubt that very much and suspect its more of a transition and learning period as they adjust to being one of the worlds biggest rock bands. I agree that its everyones own decision to travel abroad and spend all their cash on KOL gigs etc. but I wont deny being disappointed by not meeting the guys after gigs but I met them in Glasgow and they were so unbelievably nice that maybe its better that my experience of meeting them was that good

Hi everyone so right now I am sitting in the airport airport waiting to go home and the real world. I have to admit that I am unbelievably sad right now, regardless of the dissapointment of last night there is nothing like catching up with my amazing HAers and meeting new ones! I had a blast rocking out to my favorite songs with others who know how much their songs mean to me.this site has introduced me to amazing and kick arse people, I wouldn't change that for the world. I'm still saddened and hurt by what happened last night and will def have to look at my KoL addiction a little more closley, but I am glad that I can come here and express my feelings freely. Thanx to all those offering comfort and empathy, and thank u to all those that were able to show me a diff percpective in a civil manner. Overall the boston trip was incredible for me!! Shout out to Cass for housing me and giving me a good time in Beantown!!I can't wait to see more of u this coming weekend and make more memories!

I get really down after KOL shows are over And it's good you expressed your feelings about things, everyone is entitled to their opinion and I would hate to think people were holding back. See you soon

Thanx Ruth I am actually sitting here waiting for my flight trying to hold back some tears ugh. I feel like a soap bubble, all hallow and easy to pop at any moment. While the months/weeks/days leading up to these gatherings are filled so much anticipation, the days after are filled with sadness

I wasn't too bad after MSG because I had Paris to look forward to but after that I was down in the dumps for about a week after it. It's soooooo horrible. So much so that I had to go book Arizona, the San Fran and then Oxegen I have to stop

Girls, all these posts are reminding me of a great book called "Bye Bye Baby" by Caroline Sullivan. It's a memoir of her time in the '70s as an obsessed fan of (don't laugh!!) the Bay City Rollers . It details all the huge highs and crushing lows & comedowns of being an obsessive fan of a band. It's really very funny, but when I read it years ago it struck a chord cos it reminded me so much of my own obsessive fandom when I was younger (with a different band, not KOL!). Check it out. I think Courtney Love wanted to make a movie out of it actually but ...well, Courtney Love wants a lot of things!
