Hey friends! It's in my nature to feel responsible and guilty over things that are completely out of my control. I feel like Jen and Cass' disappointment is my fault because I have done nothing but encourage everyone to try to meet KOL. I have had many successes in the past with meeting them so I just figure that everyone else will too. So for that- I apologize...
And I also feel really guilty that I have pictures with all of them when some of my closest KOL friends don't. I feel that's unfair because we all love them the same way. It's not fair that I've gotten lucky. Meeting them is such a rush, it's pretty damn freaking magical.
Saying that, I do have to admit that I agree with Jay, BlackJeans, Csolis and Accurate. This is an issue about controlling our expectations. Either that or controlling our disappointment. After MSG, I was completely 100% sure that they would come out and greet fans. And I was really angry when they didn't. But then I realized that I had just seen them play the world's most famous arena and frickin rock the hell out! Many fans didn't get the chance to do that. So I controlled my disappointment and decided not to let it get me upset.
I also understand where Jen and Cassie are coming from- it's really upsetting to think that they purposely want to AVOID fans. The people they owe all their current fame and success to. Honestly, they could be the most talented mother-fu*ckers around but if they don't have us going to their shows and spending money on their albums, merch, etc., they would not have the opportunities that they've had so far. So yes, feeling neglected is a hard sting.
I'm just hoping that they acknowledge how important it is to continue doing a certain level of meet and greet. It may be 5 minutes to them but it means the world to someone.
And I'm hoping that a few years down the line, they still have fans dedicated enough to stand around and wait in the cold for a wave, a couple of autographs or a picture.
I hope they never see the days when they are wishing to see fans waiting at the venues after their shows.

Review from Boston Globe: Kings of Leon rule with epic anthems It's good to be the Kings of Leon. With their first gold album, two No. 1 Modern Rock singles, and the cover of the latest Rolling Stone, the group named for the Pentecostal preacher who fathered three of its members (and uncled the fourth) is finally reaping the rewards of years of touring and "It Band" attention from critics. At Agganis Arena on Saturday (the first of two sold-out nights), they proved that they could hold their own in the big leagues. Working in their favor was the epic-leaning, new wave-influenced anthems that folks have been fooling themselves into calling Southern rock solely because of the band's biography. The oceans of guitar and Coldplay-ish chants of "Use Somebody" filled the arena handily, and the chorus of "Sex on Fire" easily justified the stage lights flashing and spinning out into the audience. Driving many of the songs was Jared Followill's bass, which churned during "Charmer" and the popping, off-kilter "McFearless" and thrummed during "Notion" and "Cold Desert," which with its lyrical guitar and deliberate tempo was "Purple Rain" as played by the Cure. The bassist also provided a buzzing rumble on "My Party," giving it a disco flavor echoed in the pulsating "Heart of Glass" feel he gave to "Fans." The size of the venue had its drawbacks. Guitarist Matthew Followill appeared to be playing with his teeth during "Closer," but the darkness and distance of the stage made it hard to know for sure. The combination of singer Caleb Followill's diction and the cavernous space swallowed the lyrics, so that often all that could be heard was his yowling rasp. But the band was mostly up to the challenge, which is why the slow-moving and subdued run of songs during the encore ended up being a bit of a drag. Then again, maybe that was inevitable after the Kings of Leon ended the main set with "Slow Nights, So Long." With its open-ended chords, high bass riff, and skipping drums, it was flying and shuddering all at once. Openers the Walkmen aimed for Interpol-style atmospheric tension, but they mostly offered a sound in search of an identity. Most of the musicians spent their time looking too cool to be in the band, to the extent that singer and guitarist Hamilton Leithauser could barely be bothered to move his strumming arm. www.boston.com/ae/music/articles/2009/04/20/kings_of_leon_rule_with_epic_anthems/?page=full

My small two cents: I think, had the Kings reached the level of "success" they have now, when they first came out, what they are doing now, wouldn't seem like a shock. Not all bands are created equal. Success and notoriety changes things a lot. I don't know them, their management or their record label, but I do know one thing: I can't make or defend their actions anymore. I'm all for defending their music, but as far as some of the things they do or say off stage, I can't do that anymore. Laura, it's not your fault. We all, most of us anyway, would like a glimpse of a band offstage and off record. That's only natural. I guess for me just some recognition is all that people really want, right? I don't need autographs, giggles or laughs from artists, but some recognition would be nice on occasion. I will be seeing them this Friday and Saturday, and I'm honestly a tad skeptical about the after show. I'm sure on stage (as long as I get to hear KOTR) they will kick ass, but I think my days of waiting for them outside are probably over. Then watch me as I do it anyway, right? I knew that after MSG, the game had changed completely. Playing there is the epitome of success and I knew from that point on, things wouldn't be the same, and judging from these "trends", I was right. It's one thing to not see your fans afterwords, it's another to completely avoid them altogether. Though I love the Kings, they are not the Rolling Stones and I'm hoping that they aren't getting too big headed to the point where they oddly believe that. My two cents. I had to say something. Sue me.

Again, i think folk may be jumping to conclusions about KOL not caring about their fans anymore just because they haven't done the meet and greet thing since MSG.
Because before MSG, they were so gracious about signing stuff, taking photos, and chatting after shows (especially Caleb). Selling out the Garden and winning a Grammy doesn't change you THAT much.
I seriously think something must have happened in Dec/Jan to prompt their management to pull the plug on meeting fans. Cos i can't imagine them suddenly not wanting to share their recent success with the very people that helped get them there. These guys aren't the shy artiste type, they LOVE the attention.

It's one thing to not see your fans afterwords, it's another to completely avoid them . Sorry to be pedantic, but that's not a post-MSG change, it's nothing new. There are always at least a couple of fans waiting to meet the band outside - the Kings know that because it's been the same for 6 years. They've generally always been very good at coming out to greet the fans, but often they haven't. I guess you could say they're "completely avoiding them" on those occasions too. Just because on this occasion the girls saw them sneaking away doesn't change that fact. It was like this last year, and the year before, and the year before that, and it'll continue this year. We've yet to see what the overall balance will be.

heyy here's the setlist from the night SETLIST 4.19Taper Jean Girl My Party Molly's Chambers Crawl King of the Rodeo McFearless California Waiting Fans Milk Four Kicks Red Morning Light Sex on Fire The Bucket Notion On Call Cold Desert Use Somebody Slow Night, So Long ENCORE: Closer Knocked Up Manhattan Charmer Black Thumbnail and i totally agree with ya laura..not about the part where you feel guilty bc that's jus absurd!!! you shouldnt feel guilty for havin met them!!!!!!!..if anythin, you give us hope that they we all can meet them one day..but i still seriously feel that the days of them comin outside after gigs are long gone shit right now im listenin to BOTT and it's friggin gettin me upset in the weirdest way possible..it's my fav album but im totally only lovin it for the music..i no longer have the emotional attachment with the band i once had..that prolly sounds super extreme but that's the kinda person i am..the littlest things or ripples cause tidal waves for me. like im a very very veryyyy simple person..fukin A, i have a load of fun with a ball of aluminum foil..and i almost never get upset. but last night was the final straw for me..like yea, lebby and the band was AMAZING during the gig..but im not gunna give them any extra props and kiss their asses for that..that's what we pay them for!!!! like..it wasnt a free gig that i just HAPPEN to come across..i have been waitin on this weekend for a while..and some of u guys prolly know that i have like this huge senior capstone thing due TODAY..so for me to sacrifice this weekend for them was massive. i totally know that it was my decision to do so..but i dont think my expectations were unreasonable at all. expecting an amazing show is a given. expecting a wave/some form of aknowledgment isnt unreasonable either!!!! and to honestly go out of ur friggin way to AVOID the ppl that not only paid money to see you, but also sacrificed other parts of their night to wait around for 2 hours in the cold is jus plain harsh. im sick of making excuses for them. im sick of defending them and their actions to my friends. i dunno if you guys get it from ur friends, but mine always mention how KoL seem like they have such huge egos and think that they're bigger than they are..my days of defending them are overrrrrrrrrr. i think some of my anger is also comin from everythin else that happened to me last night..misplacing my wristlet that had my license and credit card in it..jen wiping out in the middle of the streets of Boston because she thought she saw the tour bus..being almost late for the gig..oh..and the part where we waited for 2 hours in the freezing cold..ya know..no biggie i partly blame myself for my level of dismay..i should have never gotten to invested in a band to the point where them not even giving me a wave gets me this upset..like it's absurd..i know..and prolly unreasonable..but the pain i have right now is real..and that's all i can comprehend right now i truly am sorry that this wasnt the rave review that im sure loads of you were looking for..but im not gunna sugar coat anything..fuk that..that's not how i roll..the music was grand..the crowd was better than saturday's..but i dont remember the last time i felt so jipped..and to KNOW that they didnt even come outside saturday either???..like..dude..c'mon..it's boston..not the UK..not Europe..ur not going to get swarmed..get over yourselves for a second and put yourselves in check but yea..im done making excuses for them..they are an amazinggggg band and i used to love them because it seemed like they never quite realized how amazing they are..but this snobby attitude is so unbecoming of them.. smite away

No chance of a smiting, down_with_sleeves - I loved your Saturday review cos it was so excitable and I like this ^^ Sunday review too for the same reason . I totally get how you guys felt so disappointed - it's a natural emotion when something has been built up so much in your expectations. I think I'm a jaded old fuck for NOT getting disappointed myself!!! I had such tumultuous teenage years with a band that I loved that it hardened me forever after!!!

Cass, maybe they'll come out in Arizona since it isn't an arena...but...once again, don't want to get hopes up. I was lucky enough to be able to meet them (sans Matt!) before everything suddenly changed, just in January (and yes, whether people think so or not, everything has definitely changed for them), but it just upsets me when their most loyal fans, some of the most loyal of any band out there right now, miss out on that opportunity. Because Cass I know how it is to become emotionally attached to the people who make the music that affects you in a way unlike anything else. So I really honestly hope you get your chance sometime this year. You have a lot of shows on your list, so you do have pretty good odds. Even though this seems to be the trend lately, I don't think the guys are COMPLETELY done with meeting their fans---I think it really depends on the venue and the number of people waiting.

Ah, thanks down_with_sleeves for the complete set list! I knew they played King of the Rodeo and I just couldn't remember exactly when. And I'm sorry about the after-show events, I hope it doesn't leave you permanently disillusioned.
Oh, and good luck with your Capstone! If it's what I'm thinking of, then I had it last year and it was so stressful but SO nice when it was over.

Okay so I wasn't going to post anything, but I felt like I should. Firstly, I know I've been super lucky in meeting/talking to the Kings in past shows…so, I may have no right to say this…but I will anyway.
I don’t think the Kings are forgetting their fans (my heart does go out to those of you who waited for hours on end to meet them and didn’t…I’d feel gutted too if it were me), but like others have posted on here I think it all depends on how THEY feel after their shows and where they have to be the next day. I mean, put yourself in their shoes. If you weren’t feeling great or thought you had a crappy show, would you want to come greet people? I’m not trying to bad mouth anyone on here, but I know if I didn’t feel good or thought I had a crappy show I’d be more inclined to be really hateful towards anyone I came in contact with. So maybe they didn’t come out for that reason? I can tell that everyone has nothing but love for the Kings, but like black jeans said earlier try not to expect so much out of them…their just human after all (even if they have an amazing job!).
Again, I’m sorry I don’t mean to offend or make anyone mad.

Bornagirl, handsintheair, and no1kolfan...
I totally freaking agree.
I clearly see a line of division and I am going to be blunt and point it out...
The older fans know what to expect. Perhaps its from going to more shows and having more experiences...
The newer fans are ... putting them up on this giant pedestal... Like, I am seriously reminded of 40 yr old Virgin here where that dude is like "You know what your problem is, you're putting the pussy...on a pedestal."
To say they have changed is jumping the gun a bit. We don't know them personally. If the crowd was kinda dead, like no1kolfan implied, they won't be down for meeting fans.
Again, I have been to plenty of shows and I can tell you this: 1) The security of the venue does not talk to the band. The band talks to management and they give the order. 2)The band has a call time of 2am to be at their buses. If they partied and it was close to 2am already, they didn't have tmie to go and chat with fans etc.
Also, I don't see this as AVOIDING fans! That is a bit extreme. They don't see it that way I don't think. They just want their own privacy. Spending money, flying around, that is a personal decision...They don't owe anyone anything for that. Nor do they owe anyone an explanation.
Edit: Also, I had a dream last night that I woke up and my karma was -16. Lol. I have been smited it looks like, and I have been given karma so I'm at the same place. Can't be to bad. Its not negative -16.

What I don't really get is that, you have all said that in the past there have been shows where they would come out, and others where they didn't, they have always been like this.
So I don't see in what way they have became all snobby or changed? I mean I have always thought they seem to think they are pretty awesome (that documentary for mtv hotel with them going on and on about whores comes to mind.....) so I am not sure how THIS is what makes some people not like them.
When frankly they have said or done way worse things imo.
That said I still find them an amazing band and funny as hell to see/hear/read about haha
They are just who they are. But it's nothing recent.
