Yeah i heard , a while ago know - with the build up of OBTN ; that there was 1 song written for ASH and 2 for BOTT. Sure it was one of the fellas who said it, but cant rem who it was !!

yea im sure it was 17, something to do with it fitting the theme of 'shes 17' in Slow Night apparently...
i dont think the bells are that bad, the rest of the band hate it as well apparently lol

lol This is so funny reading about the bells,cuz i have a Christmas song i just downloaded and then i have OBTN on there too and when my iPod is on shuffle and it plays 17 i always think it's the Christmas song that's playing LOL I don't mind it though,but yeah,no more LOL

Matthew is fantastic so yes, lets have some empathy and understanding of his 'problem' with bells. There's probably counselling available for it.
I remember something where it was said that 17 dates from ASH period - cannot remember where and can't be bothered looking.

Haha, everyone's got a problem with the bells, I'm with Matthew on this to be honest, I like them  Though it does sound like it's a bit of a xmas song at the start but once it's into it, it's ace. |

I heard that 17 was recorded at the same time all the other ASH songs were and was gonna be a b side, but then the band changed their minds... so there's a version of 17 out there from maybe 4 years ago  |

Yeah I don't think 17 would have had any of the guitar effects that were introduced post ASH, it would probably have sounded like most of the other guitar parts on ASH. And probably didn't have the bells, get the impression the bells were a new addition during OBTN recording sessions.

Caleb: Well, as a person he's pretty shy. He's not as confident as he should be. He's one of the better musicians in the band. He can fucking rip on the guitar. But man, when he gets onstage, wow. Have you ever seen his legs? When both his knees bend, he's fixin' to wail, man. He's fixin’ to get into it.
He's the outsider - we're three brothers, he's the cousin. He's quiet and stays in the background but when he goes up there and plays he takes it to another level. Matthew has always had great opinions. We'll end up leaving a song off the record that later on we looked back and regretted and Matthew was the one pulling for it. He's got a great sense of style as far as music goes.
When interview on Xfm about this song they didnt say anything about it potentially being on ASH!! Its the lyrics that bug me about 17....the bells, not so much!!!! |

Karma for that interview schanucums! Poor Matt, he needs to realize he's fucking awesome and such a doll. Although I'm not going to lie, the bells are just the topping on the cake for what's wrong with 17 for me lol.

^^ thanks, totally agree with you!! That was sometime ago now so hopefully Matt has become more confident since!! I just tried to listen to that xfm interview again too but apparently 17 is the only one I cant listen to, but I'm pretty sure (and please correct me if I'm wrong) that Angelo brought in bells from this crazy selection of musical instruments that he has and it was from there they decided to use them, I dont think Matt actually asked for bells |

I'm joking, really. But I'm telling the truth when I say 17 is the only Kings song I do not like. I can find no merit in it - for me, personal opinion of course, it's a mess with no redeeming features. I wish I could like it.
