hello there! im new here but just thought id share an experience. i was partying last night and the club i was in played "be somebody", "the runner" and obv sex on fire (the only one ppl payed attention to, and where like OMG IVE LOVE THEM, obv not. but anyway i digress). so i went in the toilet and a girl started to talk to me about kol, the music, the gigs, the boys. and my best mate doesnt like them (why oh WHY!) but this girl got SO angry and even threatend to beat up my mate and her boyf!!!. i love kol but im not sure whether i would actual physically fight with someone. maybe just shout ALOT. So basically just wondered what you guys thought, and whether you would feel that protective over the boys.

As much as i love KOL i dont think i would fight with someone just because they dont like them!! I think thats taking things a little too far!!! Everyone has different tastes in music (although the right taste is to LOVE them!!)

^^Yeah same here, i wouldnt get so angry that i would actualy hit out over it, but i do get angry when people who like Fall Out Boy, HSM, Jonas Brothers, Panic at the Disco, Blink 182 etc tell me that i have a shite taste in music because i like KOL, Arctic Monkeys, Arcade Fire, The Strokes, Oasis etc.
I have to remind them that the rest of the WORLD would dissagree with the fact that the bands that i like are shit, and that its their opinion.
(I always make people follow up "Oh Arctic Monkeys/KOL etc are well shit" with "In My Opinion") Thats the most defensive i get about it, and i get reaaaallly defensive over alot of things

I came to make a similar thread. I was in a shite club im my town last night. Complete hole. Anyway after playing Rihanna, Pussycat Dolls, Britney Spears ect ect, the DJ put on Sex on Fire. You think i'd be happy right? Wrong. The same over tanned sluts and chavved up cunts that were loving all that crap then acted like they were huge KOL fans. I was pretty much ready to start a fucking riot. I would happily have thrown a chair into the mix to kick things off right there and then.

You should've started something similar to the Four Kicks video. Then asked all the chavs if they knew what you were re-creating.

I swear, if Four Kicks came on, that would have been enough for me to kick off. PS: I had my last fight when I was about 12, 10 years ago (I won, so with a 100% record I would have to be favourite.)

In a club that i go to they play a mix of all those kind of music (rhianna, britney etc) and then sex on fire!!! The part that annoys me is that while jumping around acting like they are KOL's biggest fans, they only know the words to the chorus!! I mean its not hard to learn, its only like 6 words!!! Ahhhh i get angry at that!!! Sorry, rant over!!! lol

That would be priceless and that situation sounds like it calls for a riot

I HATE TO SHARE THE KINGS WITH THESE KIND OF PEOPLE!! thats why i don't like it, when MTV puts 'sex on fire' on heavy rotation as much as i love them, i'd rather keep them to myself and other fans.

i shared the kings with my best friend, cause i usually tell her when i find an awesome band, but she went and played sex on fire to some friends of hers...who lets say...don't have the best taste in music, in my opinion...i wouldn't go as far as calling them chavs but but there's not much missing either ...anyway now they all like it and they're supposedly going on about how fit Jared and Caleb are and how they're a great band I like that people are listening to the guys, but not like this

Agree with it being annoying that certain chav-types suddenly like KOL after one song. Let's comfort ourselves with the fact that they would probably be disgusted if they saw/knew old-school KOL, because they weren't exactly rocking a mainstream look at one point..haha. Whereas we loved them all the same. But fighting about it...not for me..they do enough of that for themselves xx

I'm a huge fan of MCR and have been from the beginning [you're probably wondering where I'm going with this, but bear with me] In other words I liked them when it wasn't "cool" to like them. People would turn up their noses and make comments. Then they released the Black Parade and the whole thing blew up. Suddenly it was "cool" to like them. The same people that took the pee out of me for being a fan, are now ooh-ing and aah-ing over them. Makes me sick.
I don't mind when a band I adore gets "big", what I do mind is if they sell out, forget their roots, etc., What I do hate, however, is when so-called fans jump on the bandwagon, just because it's "cool" to do so. Ask them their favorite track off Bullets and they look at you like you've grown an extra head or something.
Anyway onto Kol. I'm learning Spanish and attend a night class. There's a couple of girls there that I haven't really bothered talking to, but last week I overheard them talking about "sex on Fire" and naturally, my interest piqued.
The conversation went a little something like this...
Me: Oh, hey, sorry to interrupt, but I couldn't help overhearing. You like the Kings? Girl 1: Um, who? Me: Kings of Leon. You were talking about the single. Girl 1: Oh, right, yeah. They're amazing. Girl 2: And hot. They're my favorite band. I love all their songs. Girl 1: God, yes. (giggling - not me) Me: Uh, right. So what about their early stuff? What's your favorite song? Girl 1: I've heard Charmer. It's quite good. Me: Riiight. But I meant their early early stuff. Youth and Young Manhood era. Girl 1: Youth and what? Girl 2: Oh, I thought they were a new band.
I turned away at that point.

I tottaly get what you're saying and I do agree but at the end of the day it is just music.Let them listen and enjoy, who cares? At the end of the day they'll jump on another band wagon and you wont see them for dust.
Music is for enjoyment. I like Picasso's paintings but I couldnt tell you every painting he ever made! Does'nt mean I'm not a fan. You know how I mean? It's just music. If you choose to be a hardcore follower of the Followills (which I am) then that is the individuals choice. I dont think it's much to be upset or angry about.

i was worried about having over-protective feelings for KOL at the san diego show last night.
but honestly, i didn't feel like more of a "loyal" fan than people who were there only to hear "sex on fire"
it's not a competition. i'm happy for the kings' "new found success" sold out shows across the U.S......yes!
