Interesting reading all this....I'm in the UK and KOL have been huge here for a while...but always one of those bands where I've loved the releases but never got round to getting the albums. I'm the first to admit I've been slow on the uptake but jeez, surely if you love a band you want others to love them too... All this "I loved them first and so much harder than you" really pees me off...I LOVE OBTN, but now working my way through the back catalogue and loving everything else just as much...just took me a while to get there, that's all Also seems to be a perception that if you're a female fan you're only a fan because you love their hair and want to shag the arse off one or all of them (individually or simultaneously) - while that may be true (and anners, I do in fact own them, Caleb is chained up in my garage right now waiting for me to get home from work) it doesn't mean we're unable to appreciate the music and only have enough brain power to discuss the relative merits of their hairdos across the years. So, established fans, yes you did love them first, doesn't mean you love them more, doesn't mean you're cooler, just means you got a headstart on hearing one of the best band this world's had to offer in a very VERY long time. Apologies for the long post.... nice to be here. x

Apologies for the long post.... nice to be here. x No need for apologies!! Very well put. I think more of the.. .what's the word i'm looking for.. disdain works.. is toward people who just start loving them because 'its the cool thing to do'.. not really based upon their musical awesomeness. It would be silly to alienate new fans simply because you hadn't heard of them til now.. hell, if that were the case as an american i would be alienating vast majority of my fellow countryman LOL. I just think people dont want to end up unable to get tickets to a show because of Bandwagon fans (especially in light of the MSG show announcement OMG!!! ).. And i'm still holding true to my sentiment that i would be very disappointed if they stopped playing random older stuff to satisfy their new fanbase.. because the random older stuff is so so so good. If that makes sense.. And i'm with you. I'm a 26 year old woman and while, yes, they are by no means hard to look at LOL, i'm in it for the music, as i think a good majority of us are despite all of the rantings about their other.. assets he he he. So have some karma (when i can) for posting a very respectful opinion, and WELCOME TO HA! (be warned it is addicting.. like crack.. im serious)

I have to say that im totally over it now, i was a bit sad when they started to become huge but at the end of the day I still love and respect them as musicians, I dont care how huge they get as long as they are still around writing bloody good tunes, and if it means that someone will pick up their album instead of a Hoosiers or Nickelback album then i think they've done a damn good job, Ive seen bands i love go down the pan and split up so im happy that the boys are still passionate about what theyre doing and still have a love for playing live and P.S whoever mentioned about too many threads about this topic is completely right, ive put my last 2 cents in because its getting boring now

sorry guys, for the redundancy. i'll be more careful next time.... and i'm kind of glad that i started this thread, because now after hearing everyone's varied opinions, i think i now don't feel so much of those bittersweet feelings. (talk about being easily swayed). and i am now optimistic in getting tickets for next year (because i am definitely intending on the kings coming back for a second round). again, sorry. =/ xx

Yeah i hate the way most people think if you're a female fan it's only because you're in love with them or something. When i first listened to them i hadn't a clue what they looked like but i adored the music straight away. ASH was the first album i listened to when it came out and i was in love with every song. THhey are brilliant musicians and even though their music is changing i still like it. I don't like this album as much as the others but it's still a great album on it's own. That's kind of why i don't want to hang around outside after a gig to meet them cos i'm sure they think you're only there cos you fancy them and want to get a hug or something(much as i'd love a hug! )and i don't want them to think i'm another crazy fangirl who's there to drool over them. I'd rather meet them randomly on the street coming up to a gig or at an after party or something where it's not planned.

I couldn't agree more. I didn't jump onto the KOL bandwagon until they released King of the Rodeo. That song changed everything for me. I always liked them, but never rushed out to buy the albums or anything. I still often kick myself for not getting into them before that record.

Now they are big, I hope its because the audience has come around to them and not because they have come around to the audience.i couldnt agree with you more. i kinda wish they hadnt released sex on fire cos new fans kinda expect all of their stuff to sound like that. dont get me wrong sex on fire is amazing, but i loved the hardcore country rawk.so i dont know. . . change is good though. but its just annoying that people are jumping on a bandwagon thats been rollin for years.

Yeah of course we want their music to reach out and for them to be heard because they are such a great band but I can relate to the OP- when you love something so much you want it to be yours and maybe only your secret, it's only human.

Same..the minute I heard sex on fire..I imagined they would become way more popular. I'm really happy for their success dont get me wrong, I reaaaallly am lol. But I've been so depressed over it the past few days(maybe not depressed but quite upset lol) the Sanity stores(cd retail store) played obtn ALL DAY yesterday and basically everytime im there(nearly daily)..there are posters everywhere..I've seen giggly girls buy the album and then screech when they see sex on fire on the back. Sex on fire and use somebody are both on all commerical radios in Perth and are on constant play from morning to night. They were on the TV GUIDE, which made me cringe and hide it away from my brothers (they teased me about this happening). The thing that really annoyed me is one of the hosts on a top30 countdown on the radio stated she loved kol..it went something like this.. "omg, sex on fire..i love these guys..never heard of them before but ooo, they are so sexy and cute. Best band!" WTF? ? Ugh, i used to always be proud when I could show off KOL's music to people who didn't know who they were but now I have to deal with "ohhh, the sex on fire guys, i love that song..are all their songs like that?" I work in the music section of kmart and it has been very painful ever since kol released obtn. Hahaha, i sound like a selfish freak but I can't stand some of the people who own this great album!!!

They might just think you're a fan who wants to meet their favourite band. I mean, obviously if you at like a total fangirl in front of them, then yeah they will think you just think they're hot but, oh I dunno, I'd just hope they wouldn't think anyone who wanted to meet them after a show was a fangirl or something.

I'm kicking myself for not being a fan sooner because a couple years back they played at a TINY venue in my hometown (Louisville) that I've been to a hundred times.. now I know the days of tiny venues are over and I'll probably never experience a show that intimate with them. I'd prefer they stay lesser known in the States. I don't want to start seeing them in auditoriums and such. But oh well. Nothing I can do about it, lol...
