okay, before anyone misinterprets: i'm 100% kings of leon obesessed and i love them dearly. that having said, am i the only one getting bittersweet feelings for them? (from a U.S. perspective) i believe this topic was discussed before, whether or not the kings'll get huge here in the u.s. well, abruptly, it's here now. and i'm not sure if i'm truly liking that much. don't get me wrong, i don't want the kings not to succeed and get the respect they deserve. it's just that with this new album, it's so different from their previous ones, and even one of my friends said it seems like they're transitioning into arena rock. it's just a shock to me; i'm used to referring to the kings to people, and their response being something along the lines of 'who?' now i see them being played constantly on mtv2 and vh1. i feel like our "secret" is out now, and everyone's being pulled towards the kings (man, does that sound selfish). i dont feel like i'm explaining myself too clearly. hmm; well, it also saddens me that venues are sold out well before i even thought it had the potential to be. they're selling out faster than metro station. i miss the indie-ness of the kings and the intimacy of their concerts. i see HUGE and expensive venues on the way... i know this is already happening in the UK, and i guess, it's time for the U.S. i just wasn't ready. i still love the kings (the album is genius); it just saddens me a bit. sorry if i offended anyone and if i didn't make sense at all... =/

Okay, I have YET to see them played on ANY video channels, and trust me, I'm looking. Secondly, as an American, it doesn't bother me at all. I want them to get huge, and from the looks of things on this site, I'm the only one who is actually for them being successful, playing stadiums and dominating the masses with their kick ass music. Keyword: dominating. It always kills me when bands are small and underrated and people go "man, this group should be huge and get a lot of respect" and then when they do, all you people do is bitch, moan and complain about it. Don't get pissed at me cuz that's what you all are doing. How many more threads like this do I have to put up with before I go "enough is enough"? That is more annoying than anything the Kings have done in a 5 yr span as far as I'm concerned. No one knows what they really want. Either you're down or you're not, basically. None of this "I like them, but I don't want them to be huge" crap either. It's gotten to the point, where I have to ask myself "are there any real fans left?" They were never my "secret" and people who make threads like this, claim they are all for the Kings and then proceeded to ramble on about some sort of personal issue really tick me off. I'm pretty sure I've alienated myself and offended myself from the masses, but enough is enough. I can't take anymore of these threads. I really can't. Normally, I keep quiet (well, I try to anyway) but honestly. Do you people want them to not grow and keep playing small shows and never be able to get their music out so that others can enjoy it? Do you want them to make the same record all the time for the next 20 yrs? I don't get it. Am I the only one who doesn't care about them being huge, who doesn't care if they want to experiment, who doesn't care that if they name their next album "Wassup" and start rapping, it's gonna be the end of the world? Personally, I wouldn't mind that because I know for a fact so many people on this site would loose their minds if they went in that direction. Anyway, yes, I'm annoyed, but it's more at the fact that I have to deal with a billion of these sorts of threads on a daily basis. They're getting the recognition they FINALLY deserve. Deal with it. (I know I sound uber-bitchy, and guess what, I ain't apologizing. I didn't say anything to hurt anyone's feelings. Just spitting the truth. As another side note, when I go "you", it's not just at one person. It's directed at everyone, and they know who they are. I feel a lot of smiting my way, but whatever. I don't care about a virtual number, nor will I leave because people are smiting me. That's another thing that makes me laugh, but I digress...)

^^True dat! I mean, yes...they are getting bigger or whatever here in the U.S. but all i can say is that it's about fucking time. Think about it...they've been working towards getting their sound out to the public for yrs now. They might not have started with the intentions of getting huge and selling out arenas but they probably did set out with the intentions of doing what they loved, or as jared once said...something like..."playing/ doing what turns us on." If that means selling out arenas and being played on commercial radio and VH1 or MTV, then by god...do it boys. They can't always play small venues...there really would be no sense in doing that. They still stay true to themselves and their fans...that's pretty much all we can ask from them, right?
As Jiggly said...they were never my secret. Fuck, whenever i had the chance, i told everyone about them-hoping someone would get as into them as i was. Now instead of having to explain who they are and what they sound like people can easily find out for themselves, and really, there's nothing wrong with that.
Personally, i'm super goddamn happy the kings are finally becoming kings here in america. It shouldn't make anyone sad...it should be exciting. They're a band...bands want people to recognize their music, and the only way they can reach a broader audience is by becoming...oh what's the word...famous. It happens...it's supposed to happen....good god.

Mrawr, I very much agree! Only By The Night's alright, but it's got none of the amazingness that Aha Shake Heartbreak had. I got so pissed off today, 'cause I saw a review of Only By The Night in People magazine, which has never acknowledged them before, and while I was glad to see that they gave OBTN a good review, they started the review off by saying "After last year's disappointing Because Of The Times..." Ugh, I swear, people in America have no taste. I'm glad they're finally getting the recognition they deserve, but then again, I really wish the recognition had come with one of their truly fantastic albums. But then again, in the grand scheme of things, I guess it doesn't really matter what album they broke out on...

I've never listened to their first two CDs, but I've heard the Bucket and I understand why KOL weren't "huge" back then. But with BOTT and OBTN, I never understood why an extremely good looking band with really good songs never made it big in north america. Could it be something to do with their PR people? It just doesn't make sense why they aren't bigger.

I have to deal with a billion of these sorts of threads on a daily basis. ..a billion huh? jasmine no offence here, but you could tell by the 2nd line of ilovekol's post what this was going to be about and if you find it so hard to 'deal' with threads like these. why don't you just stop reading, and click "back" you post was quite the harsh one, plus you offended people that get upset when they get smited. just because you don't care about a number, doesn't mean you have to impose your views on others and laugh in their face. this forum is for people opinions, and im all for them!... until they hurt peoples feelings. im not saying i care about karma, i might, i might not, but im just saying you may be hurting more people's feelings than you realise

no i wish i was thatd be interesting! im just so amazing at describing music ..... im agreeing with you that you shouldnt hurt peoples feelings like we all have opinions like free speech is a right until it starts starts violating other human rights... okay thats a bit over the top i just mean if you dont like the music dont listen and if you do then enjoy it because its very rare that you get this great music from guys this cute they have all the ingredients to be as famous as the stones if not more so they deserve it

^^ haha the violation of human rights yeh i agree with your post, they put in the hard yards, they deserve the popularity and fame and the perks that come with it, but it is frustrating when people are like "ooo i LOVE KOL" when they couldn't even name the album sex on fire is on. like im not sitting here saying "i LOVE led zeppelin" when i know one song haha. im sure that would piss people off that legitamately do love led zeppelin "for real fans we'll always have HA " true that

Back in the day when they were little known and I was championing thier cause to anyone that would listen, the one thing I wanted was for this generation of SHIT music lovers to finally come round to what's good.
Now they are big, I hope its because the audience has come around to them and not because they have come around to the audience.

totally agree but what are you going to do? cut their heads off theyre spending money on the tracks that are making these boys famous and maybe in ten years they can look down on even smaller fans and scoff at their claims of being matt's "biggest fan eva" we're just lucky enough to be around when these boys started so we can jump around to red morning light and not feel like a try hard which is what im going to do now

WHY WHY WHYYYYYYYYYYY is THIS the album that made them big here? UGH. I'm happy for them and proud of them for gaining the much deserved attention they are finally getting too. I just sincerely hope that people go out and get their back catalog and realize the awesomeness that is YAYM and ASH. But.. as much as I hate to say it, it's America, land of the Jonas Brothers, Britney Spears, and Hannah Montana. So chances are.. the people buying up all the concert tickets aren't looking for genuinely good music, they are just jumpin on that bandwagon (with the exception of all of you wonderful people on here of course ). But what the hell. Good for the kings, I just hope that, as someone in the US that has been on Team KOL for a while, i dont lose my seat at a show to some person who has no idea who they really are or has never heard of any album prior to OBTN. And that folks is my 2 cents .
