just sat and listened to the whole album from start to finish. i do like it, and i dare say as it hear it more ill love it. the album has got its "anthem" this, i think, being sex on fire. YAYM had mollys chambers, ASAH had the bucket and BOTT had on call / arizona. but what i think its missing is that really big track for the live shows, the one that makes the crowd go mental. YAYM had spiral staircase, ASAH had four kicks and BOTT had black thumbnail. or, could it be "use somebody"? its a bit mkore subtle but could that be the one to get the front moshing?? your thoughts i c your point, but it would be hard for this album to hav a track similar to the ones youve named because i think this allbum is far more laid back, but i think crawl and sex on fire are more than enough to get my hips swinging ps cold desert and revelry will be amazing live

but what i think its missing is that really big track for the live shows, the one that makes the crowd go mental. YAYM had spiral staircase, ASAH had four kicks and BOTT had black thumbnail. your thoughts My thoughts re the anthem of the album if you don't think Crawl's anthemic enough- turn Be Somebody up as loud as you can stand...... IMO there's your anthem. I'm crazy about that song, i may well put my back out air drumming!!!! Funnily, a lot of people have made comment that it’s not as good as the other 3 albums, but if this album is considered crap (in KOL standards) then even at their worst KOL still kick every other band out of the FREAKING PARK!!! No comparison. My fav songs so far: Closer (such a haunting sexy sound), Crawl (love the bass in this), SOF (classic - self explanatory), Manhattan (the melody is really beautiful), I want you (drinkinthepark said it perfectly on this thread earlier…it has an old sound but polished), Be Somebody (my fave…guitar is haunting and love Nates drumming – almost Milk-esq. Love the total change in tempo towards the end) Just on the topic of the rest of the world FINALLY waking up and catching up to us H.A’s, I think what annoys most of us is that KOL was all our cool little secret and I am sure we all only shared them with those whom we knew would appreciated them for the same reasons we did….not just cause of their hotness or etc (well OK the hotness factor is a bonus for all us pervs - meow). Now the whole world is jumping on the bandwagon and our little secret is no more…I hope they recognise them not only for OBTN but for the likes of Spiral Staircase, O’Dusty, Wasted Time, Trani, 4 Kicks, The Bucket, Arizona etc, etc…as for peeps who will only like them for OBTN I personally think they wont appreciate the others albums as much – I don’t think they will get them…which is really sad cause they are legendary and they FARKING ROCK!! PS sorry for the essay Karma to you HollyG for your 'at their worst' comment, very very true. Also, i said on another thread about 'new fans' being got from this album - I feel that if they just know SOF and then get this they are unlikely to like, certainly, Y&YM. The Kings are definatley a band for a fan with diverse musical taste. Luckily - that's exactly what i've got. (Unless it the Jonas Brothers---just too diverse for me )

While I think there are a few good songs, I'm a little disappointed. I don't find myself wanting to listen to it over and over like I did their other albums. Personally, I don't care for all the bells and whistles they've been throwing into their songs (and I mean bells literally!) They're pretty songs - they don't need all that crap. I think they need to strip it down a bit - and not in the way most of you girls are thinking

I got my hands on the album yesterday after being out of the county and perhaps it's a grower but thus far I ain't impressed. For a start it doesn't sound very much like KOL, it's lacks intensity and their raw sound has turned in to commercialism. YAYMH, ASH and BOTT were real rock albums and the new one sounds watered down, almost like pop rock (Bon Jovi spring to mind! ). It's not a total write off though, some good tracks but as I said I hope it's a grower.

I've already expressed my opinion, but I'll do it again on this thread.
The first time I heard the album, I was disappointed. Nothing was upbeat, too much sounded mainstream and over-produced. However, upon several more listens, I've found that I really like it. Some songs are just brilliant: Cold Desert (one of their best ever, with honest and heartbreaking lyrics), I Want You (a quintessential KOL song -could be on AHA of YAYM), Closer (the perfect display of Caleb's vocal ability). And plenty of other songs are solid: Sex on Fire, Manhattan, Use Somebody. Overall, I give it 4/5. It's a very good album. BUT... we need something upbeat, fun, with attitude... I'm dying for the days of Four Kicks, Soft and Taper Jean Girl. FUN music. They want to sound mature and make "bigger" songs -I don't think that just because they've made it to album number 4 (which isn't even really a landmark), that they need to become washed up. After watching today's home video, I coudn't help but long for the days of "yo vengo!" I can only hope for album number 5 to show that they can still have a good time.

Here are my thoughts, after FINALLY gettin' my hands on it. "I Want You" is like the cutest thing. I think it's my favorite on the whole album. Just has this nostalgic sound about it. "Sex on Fire", "Crawl", and "Manhattan" don't count, as most of us heard them before the album was released. "Closer" sounds amazing, after being able to hear the whole thing. "17", that's a skipper in my opinion. I think it could have been better. "Cold Desert" was also amazing, and I love the lyrics. "Use Somebody", well I'm a fan of the "woo-ahs". So big sounding, love it. "Notion" and "Revelry", very Kings-sounding, but new direction going, good tracks. "Be Someone", I'm not feeling, though I do dig the end.
All in all, this album/cd gets 4.5 out of 5 in my book. With two songs I don't really care for as the only negative aspect, I am so proud of these boys! Amazing record all the way 'round and it almost reminds me of U2's "The Joshua Tree", and that is a very good compliment!

Santogold, or was it Pixies? i don't know I just know I heard the 'I Want You' riffs before, and by different artists. It's so perfectly recognizable ...so grunge-pop. Maybe it was The Offspring? Anyone recognizes it too?

I love it. There isn't one song on it that I don't like. Cold Desert is beautiful, and I love I Want You!
