Oh man you guys must just want gritty unpolished classic rock, cause if you ask me with just 17 and cold desert this album is old school. This is country, bluesy and old rock sounding to me.

ok here goes, from start to finish,
I'm so glad I downloaded this album, I really am, I genuinely think I have an addiction to there music, so strange haha
anyway heres my album
Closer. Haunting, dark, amazing. Could quite possibly be one of their best songs and most original. 10/10
Crawl. I still stand by what I said when I first heard it, Matts guitar needs to be louder, but still a thumping good tune and amazing live. 7/10
Sex on Fire. very cool, good choice for a single, esspecially if theyre wanting to take on a more commercial audience, which is also a fault. 7/10
Use Somebody. also amazing, very approachable, esspecially for a more commercial audience. slightly disjointed at points but seems to be a firm fan favourite already. 9/10
Manhattan. a very good song, brilliant live, unfortunately feels flat from a studio perspective. still a heart warming song, and certainly a song to fall in love to. 7/10
Revelry. Interesting number, Nathans drumming stands out most for me here, but certainly feels like a country ballad, definetly the boys going back to there southern roots here. at times feels like it shouldn't be on the album but then the "woo" section hits in and it feels like OBTN again. 6/10
17. Ok. from what everyone has been saying it sounds like a christmas song and it is the least favourite. I'm not sure. upon first listen to the intro, it did sound like a darkness christmas song (I know i can't believe I just compared a Kings of leon intro to the darkness, shoot me now please), but for what the song is, it is good. good guitar and rhythm section again. however could be done without the bells. certainly the least favourite of the album 5/10
Notion. Big sound, big drums, big guitars, lyrics and everything else. certainly going to be a live favourite. 8/10
I Want You. interesting drumming from Nathan. feels like it has more potential to it. may be different live, like Milk. 7/10
Be Sombody. Brilliant, dark and fast. a real hard hitter, but feels like it doesn't deliver that final knock out punch that we expect from a KOL hard song like Trani, Charmer, Pistol of Fire and such. leaves you realing but gives you a chance for a breathe which does make a nice change. 9/10
Cold Desert. My favourite song ever by the Followil boys. Genius, smooth, chilling and almost had me on the brink of tears from how emotional calebs singing, lyrics and atmosphere created by the group. 10/10
so over all I feel it is definetly a good album with some brilliant album, with some of their best work yet. however it feels like it goes in a similar pattern to BOTT in which it starts with the first five numbers big then comes down to some semi good material and then knocks you out with two final great numbers. And what a great number to end on. This album has definetly given me my favourite song by the boys ever, how they can top Cold Desert is going to be tough, although im sure some of you wont agree.
overall 8/10

Ok I'm not going to go through all the songs like I did for BOTT, I'm gonna discuss things slowly and in parts Ok anyone agree with the following statements.....? I Want You could not be more Pixies like if they tried! (Not a bad thing, a good thing ) From Jareds bassline (which I think could actually be a Kim Deal bassline? might be wrong...) to Calebs singing, it's a very un-caleblike tempo?

My review:
Closer- So if this is the song about the vampire they were talking about, I totally get it. If it wasn't, then it sounds like it. I love the drumming pattern, and I like the dark, gloomy vibe they threw on this song. Calebs voice is awesome as well, love the chorus. 8/10
Crawl- Not the best or favourite KOL lyrics. Definately single material though, very catchy. I like the melody of this song more than I do the lyrics. Its a good heavier rock song on this album. I like the guitar on this song. Sounds like it would belong on BOTT because of the bassline. 6/10
Sex On Fire- I just love this song. I feel happy listening to it, the same feeling that I got when I first heard The Bucket years ago, almost. It reminds me of being in a car going down a highway with the roof down in a car with the wind in your hair on a road trip to nowhere at all. Just a free song. 8.5/10
Use Somebody- So this is one of the stand-outs of the album. I can relate to this song, I think its gorgeous. It almost makes me cry, and its extremely touching. They should put this in in a TV show or something, or when they roll the credits at the end of a movie. 10/10
Manhattan- I like the vibe to this song. Quite pretty and relaxing. Theres not much to say on this song, so my review is therefore ridiculously short. 7/10
Revelry- Right here I can hear Caleb's writing drugs kicking in on the album. Gorgeous, one of the songs I can listen to over and over on the album. It reminds me of walking in the dark, alone after a masquerade in some kind of enchanted forest. Don't ask where I get that connotation from, I just did. I get some renaissance vibe from this song. 10/10
17- Am I one of the only people who can stand the bells? Sounds like a winter song at the beginning, i'll enjoy it more when theres snow out, because i'm weird like that. "Shes only 17" reminds me of Slow Night, So Long for some reason. I love the chorus on this song. 8/10
Notion- One word: great. Good work guys. 8/10
I Want You- COWBELL! Okay, anyways. This reminds me of a rap song during the verses. Don't ask. Anyways, aside from that the chorus is amazingly catchy. 9/10
Be Somebody- I just love this song. Very dynamic and I love the changes from the verses to the chorus which are completely different, I can listen to this one all day too. The guitar is orgasmic period. 10/10
Cold Desert- LOVE the lyrics, love the melody. Another stunningly gorgeous album closer from KOL once again. This is the gem of the album, no doubt about it. I can't even slightly complain about this one in any which way. I think i'm going to cover this. 10/10
Verdict: I suck at reviewing albums, and I throw people off.
But album wise, I think its their most mellow, and serious album yet. Very atmospherical, you can't do too much dancing or headbobbing to this one. At least I can't, but its great to chill out to when you're feeling mellow. To sum it up in one word: beautiful.

I've just finished listening to the album and I'm gonna have to say this is sounding great after one listen.
It sounds like the guys have climbed to the top of a mountain with this one. In so many different ways.
I don't just think this will be their biggest selling album, I think this will be the one that people will look back at in 20 years and say, that was the album that cemented Kings Of Leon as one of the best Rock bands of all time.
With the amount of stellar songs they now have under their belts, they are fast catching up with some of the greats and to be honest, I think they've now overtaken quite a few.
I'm not gonna name specific band names because its an opinion thing I guess and its more than likely that some people would probably be offended or would just think I was being plain ridiculous but there you go...
CLOSER - Gloomy and imposing from the start. There's some interesting experimentation going on in this song. The lyrical imagery works really well within the context of the music behind it. - 8/10
CRAWL - Kickass. The bass is cranked right up in this one and carries the song well. I know this might sound strange, but it makes me think of a train wreck. In the nicest possible way. It sounds like the musical representation of a train speeding along the track and eventually losing control. There's several reference points throughout the song but I can't begin to explain it briefly. - 8/10
SEX ON FIRE - Reminds me a little of So Alive by Ryan Adams. I've heard it being described as cinematic and I think this is a great way of explaining it. Quite simplistic lyrics but very effective. Excellent single. - 9/10
USE SOMEBODY - A lovely song, bass line in the second verse is really cool! Has an edge to it, as most KOL songs seem to have. The section with Matt singing seems a little forced and the change onto the solo section doesn't seem quite right. Apart from that, a really good track! - 8/10
MANHATTAN - Perfect. Sounds like Arizona Part 2 which is a great thing! Love the guitars, love the drums, love the bass, love the singing and the words are awesome! - 10/10
REVELRY - A very beautiful twang in the guitars and the voice, the bass works great, really like the drum beat. Love the WOOHOOHOO's. - 10/10
17 - Brilliant!! I think this song just works really well, it has a bit of Aha Shake (I know its a leftover) in it and a bit of Because Of The Times in it with some new sounds mixed in as well as Caleb's VOICE. Man I love the voice. - 9/10
NOTION - Really enjoy the drums in this one. The guitars are cooool, they sound stretched which is a cool effect. The singing is great again! - 8/10
I WANT YOU - One of my favourite KOL songs already. So chilled and laid back. The intro is amazing and the melody works like a charm! Think its been stated before that the guitars sound liquidy, good description - 10/10
BE SOMEBODY - Badass. Uplifting. Dirty. Sounds like outlaw music and the words are awesome. - 10/10
COLD DESERT - One of the best KOL songs ever. I think thats all I need to say with this one. - 10/10
AVERAGE - 9/10
As an album however I'm giving this a 10. Its only gonna grow on me more whilst I play it non stop for the next 18 months. Because Of The Times was probably a 7 when I first heard it, now its grown into a definite 10. Only By The Night has already convinced me.
This is the money maker, the history maker and the best so far.

I don't want to go back on my original word which I think is why i'm mainly holding out... But thank you for restoring my faith. So many people have come on here and slagged it down to the ground, and i've seen someone (not on here) saying they've sold out. But this had made me relax, thank you once again. And have some karma! This is more like it

Reading over the reviews has been great, I've thoroughly enjoyed it. I have to say though its crazy how many people just can't grasp the fact that KOL aren't gonna make the same album twice.
They keep changing their style up, each album has a different feel to it. Everyone knows that, its clear as day.
I understand you ain't gonna love everything they put out, thats cool, but the reasoning is a bit lazy at times on here. Constant reference to past glories and why can't this song be more like that song.
It just doesn't work like that guys. They have said it from the start, its boring. They want some variation in what they play every night for the next 18 months or whatever, y'know?
I think I could talk in circles on this subject to be honest lol...I'll leave it there.
