After my numerous post about this album. And after about 30 listens through. I've come to my descion about this record. My first thought that its over produced is still with me. Just listen to Crawl and when you hear the finger slide down the strings, it sounds cold and as if it was done on a computer. For me KOL is all about feeling, it gets into you and feel it inside of you. I dont feel much on this record its cold and clinical.
My other opinion is that is "Soft" nothing on this record "Rocks" at all. What do we do live to these songs? Sway back and forth is all i can imagine doing. Caleb never opens open and belts anything out. I'm all for moving forward musically BOTT they did that but still Rocked out. McFearless, Charmer, Blackthumbnail all Rocked and you "Felt" the passion the heart of them.
This album just trundles along doing nothing whatsoever. As alittle experiment listen to Blackthumbnail and how you "Feel" the music inside you and then straight after Crawl. It so over produced it unreal.
My main concern is we get aload of these "swaying" songs live and missed out on classic KOL the last two gigs i've yearned for Joe's Head and Happy Alone songs you can feel Calebs passion. By no means do i want KOL new stuff to sound like old stuff which alot of people keep saying. I want them to explore new avenues. Just with the passion and soul of KOL. This is so bland it just isnt KOL some people pretending to be them
KOL are my favourite band in the whole world i know every song word for word (Not now probably) And how i feel is when i was 15 and broke up with my first girlfriend. Its like my heart has been torn out and i feel sick to my stomach. I can't believe that this is KOL, i'm pretending that this is a B-Sides and a scam to show us not to download music and when i get my order from play its gonna be a "Real" record. Man i'm so sad right now. People might like some of the songs. But surely everyone i can see it doesnt Rock one little bit and has hardly any passion in it

sorry pheebs but i dont understand this post? what tune is being sung? lol I think if we hadn't already heard these songs then a lot more people would be saying "what a great album!" I thought about this when I heard the new songs (ie the ones that had not been pre-revealed) and I thought that if Sex on Fire, Crawl, Use Somebody, and Manhattan had been played for the first time to me now, as I was listening to the other songs on the album I probably would have been even more blown away than what I was. I'm not saying that they are stronger than the other songs, I actually prefer I want you, Cold Desert, Revelry and Closer, but to hear these 11 completely new songs for the first time together would have had me in (more) awe than I was. It's my own fault though. Since SOF was first released I've listened to it 10 times a day, and as much as I still love it, I tend to skip it on the album, just because it's not as fresh anymore. Saying that, that's happened to loads of other tracks on other albums, and with time I return to them and they're like new again. The point is, if every tune had been fresh (to me personally, can't say for the rest of ye) then I would have said the album was the best ever. Now because I'm a bit over some of the new songs already, I'm not as blown away as I probably could have been/should have been. Love the whole thing tho - went out for a jog yesterday to it, and it was perfect!!

Okay, to those of you who have heard the new album ahead of schedule...which songs do you think they'll play on their upcoming tour?
I do hope they play "Use Somebody", what I've heard of it kinda gives me the feelings I had when I heard "The Runner". You know, with the bit at the end where all of them are singing acapella. Beautiful.

anyone else notice that they were really lazy at naming their songs this time? they've have some real nice song titles in the past... now, except for manhattan, they just named all their songs after the most emphasized word/phrase...

Defintely!! I was also surprised that they'd name two songs so similarly (ie Use Somebody/Be Somebody) I do think Cold Desert is a good name for the particular song, even if the words are referenced in the song. But I want you, and Revelry could have had very imaginative titles, as could have Closer. Saying that, in my eyes they can do no wrong :-) so... in my mind I'm putting this decision from them down to them being more serious and passionate about the song lyrics this time around....

I get you, Phoebe. I think they released they most "rocking" songs first and everyone expected the rest of the album to be the same.
