I'm having one of those hearing something again through new ears experiences with Manhattan at the moment. I'm really enjoying it in a fresh way, and loving Matthew's guitar lines.

Matt's guitar just gave me an eargasm! Seriously i gasped,couldn't breathe for a second,and i felt this tingling all over my body! I was just listening to Fans live from Hammersmith Odeon...the very last guitar part in the song,at the very end,i dont even think that guitar is in the original,i think it's just Matt "saying goodbye" in the song LOL...It starts out kinda warbly and then goes way up and ends so prettily!!! Oh i cant stop playing this I've heard this a hundred times but it never really hit me until now! |

Sounds like an eargasm to me  It's funny how much I love Matt's castanets in Manhattan. Not guitar skills I know, but every time I hear it I get all tingly and shudder. The sounds just goes right through me, in the good way xxx |

My friend [who isn't a KOL fan] thinks it's extremely weird when the Use Somebody vid comes on TV and I turn it up LOUD just in time for Matt's solo. She doesn't get it. For me, it's the glue that holds the entire song together.

I occured to me the other day that Matt's playing is at time verging on a shoegazer kind of vibe - which is a bit...unexpected... on OBTN. I just made this connection. Not a bad thing at all, and the rest of the band are counteracting it somewhat. But I 'm wondering where he's going to go.
Sometimes the quiet ones get away with all kinds of stuff!!

Just listening to Manhattan now and even though I've listened to it i'd imagine upwards of about 5,000 times since I bought the album it still manages to floor me! He is a genius! This in Paris was a religious experience for me!

I completely agree about Manhattan, the first time I heard it I was playing the Glasto set in the car and I was blown away by it...........absolutley LOVE it live! It should be played at every concert!!
