As an American, I do feel as though there aren't many Kings fans, but over the years, I've learned to accept it. (I personally like all kinds of music and don't limit myself to just one genre). You have to remember these record companies really aren't pressing the issue either. If they really believed in some of these acts, they'd be 100% behind them trying to help out, but as they all are about making the dollar, music like the Jonas Brothers, which I'm not really into, will continue to out sell acts like the Kings. Then again, there are some bands who aren't meant to be uber-famous, so maybe for us Americans, this is a good thing because you know what will happen if they ever really make it over here. You'll have a bunch of band-wagon folk jumping on board who don't really even know what they are doing and then, we'll get sick and tired of the Kings. I'd love to see them play stadiums, personally, but I've learned to just be a fan. As long as they keep churning out the goods, I'm good.

I think everyone needs their own little place in the country (if they can afford it) Yorkshire is great may I add, but America is their home- I understand they arent as big as they are over here in the UK but I doubt they would ever leave, even if they call the UK home they need to understand we will never have the appreciation refried beans gets in the states!
I went travelling in America in 2006 and worked in a summer camp, 460 kids over a 9 week stint- 'my festival party' went down a treat and they all loved the KOL music i played- I suppose its how to do with how they are marketed, some of the kids still email me asking what the 'cool band' are upto..just a shame they cant get any info in their teeny magazines..shame they cant use google either!

I think its a shame that KOL arent as big in america, because god knows they deserve to be and i think its important for all bands to be appreciated in the country thats their home. So i can understand why the kings might be abit dissappointed with the reaction they get there sometimes. The kings are so big in the UK and have done loads of festivals over their recently, so they got used to getting a great reception again, so when they did all points west festival, it must have been a bit of a shock, having the crowd not sing along as much. I just found this video on youtube from APW, its really good quality, and i was looking at these to see how the crowd was, and at about 5.40 onwards, its just after caleb has done his little whistle on 'knocked up' and says 'everybody', when he wants everyone to singalong and go 'whoah woah woah woooah', like the only people who do it are the girls filming the video, and she does a close up on calebs face and u see him say "come on" And then he just kinda subtly shakes his head and turns away. I think its really sad He looks so upset. When i just saw it, i thought of this thread, and his face just kinda sums it up www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Onj3XYanjQ&feature=related

you have no idea hahahah i was as disappointed as he was. man, i was there with one of my friends and we were honestly rocking the hell out trying to get everyone to do it along with us and no one would budge. it was a mixture of them all waiting for radiohead and having some sort of grudge against kings of leon. it's ridiculous. i really am so sad about this fact because i know they have every reason in the world to be disappointed with most of the US crowds. especially at festivals where they're not as known as the other acts. this video is so depressing but i was singing aloooong, i really was. hahah i keep responding to all of this because it really makes me so sadddd

^^ well fair dues to you!! Thats all you can do at a gig like that!! That clip made me cry a little In my experience at festivals here in Ire and I'm guessing its not too different in UK people just try and enjoy the bands that are on even if they didnt specifically come to see them, I dont know why it'd be different in the US!! Then again there tends to be a real pop culture thing over there, if its endorsed by MTV and various other media outlets then its not good enough!! I love Calebs honesty tho, nothin worse than a band telling you 'its the best ever, blah blah' when its clearly a lie!! I'm sure the ol honesty juice helped a bit too....he sounds hammered

Haha, I was gonna say something about it soon! Man, I felt seriously seriously bad for Caleb there. It's like he kinda shakes his head and gives up. Uh, I felt so bad for him. Yeah, like, you could hear a couple of people singing back, but I just thought it must really suck for them to be up there, playing like that to have this crowd just standing staring at them.

that vid is so sad. i do feel sorry for those of you in the usa who are good fans but i think for such a huge country there isnt that much musical diversity. i dunno im prob talking crap thats just how it seems maybe its easier here because its smaller so easier for bands to visit more places meaning less travel for fans.
i dunno that vid has bummed me out poor caleb.

i went to APW too and like blackkeys said, i was right around the front (i wonder if i saw you!) and no one was moving and it was really annoying and sad. i mean i still had fun and hearing sex on fire live was worth dealing with peoples' bullshit so whatever i cant really blame them for being down on america. i hope the rest of the tour goes well for them here because they deserve it!
also the person that posted the thing where caleb's like "come on..." i felt SO BAD and i definitely saw that. broke my heart a little but i was still singing along.

I was at APW all by my lonesome. Screaming, singing, clapping, dancing, jumping...almost crying! Nobody around me shared my enthusiasm and I felt so lonely.
My boyfriend was in the crowd on the other side of the stage and he overheard some guys saying, "I'D PAY 100 DOLLARS TO HAVE THIS BAND END AND RADIOHEAD BEGIN...HAHA! I'D PAY A THOUSAND! It made my blood boil to hear that.
But then my boyfriend said that towards the end of the KOL set those same guys were like, "OH THEY'RE NOT SO BAD" or something like that...either way...the American reception is horrid!
I haven't even watched this video but I'm sure I'll feel just as sad...
Further proof of American indifference to KOL: the most "indie" rock station in San Diego won't even play their songs. And they've started announcing concerts in San Diego for the fall and are not announcing the HOUSE OF BLUES show in SD!!!!!!!! That's just sucky!
But I suppose if KOL are meant to have commercial success in the United States it will happen at its right time. You can't force these things, you know? Of course, I wish them the best but I'd rather they make good music that may never be played on the radio rather than crappy music just for the sake of commercial success...

I guess I can say that I feel lucky here in the US, anyway. Every time I've seen the Kings it's been in smaller intimate venues. I don't want them to start playing in places where I have to stand three miles back to see them. I like to "see" them. I like to see the expressions on their faces(disappointed expressions or not!). I like it when they play in a venue where there really isn't a bad seat in the house. That's it. I'm writing Caleb a big long letter..........
