I never judged the album. I just said I had low expectations. And use somebody is VERY boybandish! The way he sings, it sounds like he has been around women too much and has become less manly. Its a WAY emotional song, and I don't mind KOL getting emotional...its just the way they do it. Use somebody sounds like he is singing about how he didn't get the girl he's so madly in love with...milk, milk on the other hand was amazing. The way he's so real and the whole band did it just right, it wasn't over done or too dull either.
I'm going to stop myself here...I can't get the right words to describe it. It just seems as if someone has been slipping estrogen in Caleb's whiskey cabinet and its got his head so far up his ass with emotions that he's forgotten how to rock...how to be mean and how to really make a connection with his fans through his music. I wish the band would stop writing music for a while, kick back at their ranch smoke some pot and listen to Zeppelin.

Imagine the Kings at a festival, playing the last gig at the main stage, around midnight. It's a bit chilly and it's completely dark, except for the lights on stage. And then they play this song. I get shivers just thinking about it. I'm actually glad that they aren't making a new YAYM record. They already gave us one, and it was perfect. So they move on, like they did with every record. It's different, but still brilliant.

I'm not looking for the YAYM or ASH sound, I'm want its rawness, its upbeat rythyms and catchy bass lines. I'm all for moving on musically, but they don't have what they use to have anymore.
Look at BOTT, it had everything I was complaining about, synthesizers, weird effects, and heavy bass lines...but they did it right. It was upbeat, raw but at the same time it was new for them as musicians. Songs like camaro, fans, black thumbnail and others had that "feel" to it...that genuine kings of leon experience that we all know.

If you put it like that .. Well, I understand what you mean. But I guess it just comes down to the old cliché: people have different tastes. Some fans don't like the new songs and sound of the Kings and some do. They can't please everyone. But I understand that it sucks if one of your favorite bands changes their style into something you dislike. That's a shame of course. I'm sorry for that. But I'm really liking the new songs.

That was heartfelt ^^^ Anyways, I just listened to the studio version of crawl and now ima happy the song rocks hard and it has a 1970's fuzzy crunch to it.

I have had a few days to hear this now and it has finally "clicked" - someone else mentioned that, you start to hum it without realising it, sign of a good song, this is most probably why its the first single, good commercial sound. As for what it sounds like, Bob Seger, circa like a rock album with a hint (as previously mentioned) of Dakota. I'm sorry but this sounds nothing like Bob Seger. The Silver Bullet Band is rolling over in their graves.

Even though you didn't say that to me, that is exactly how I feel. I might add that sometimes bands change their sound and they ruin their legacy. I'm all for "growing musically" and all that. But how many people who want to listen to Van Halen actually listen to Van Hagar? Yeah I know they changed their front man, but 1984 hinted at the synths to come. I have to say that this move might get them more success in the States because this is exactly the track that radio will love; but if they don't rock the way they use to rock, they are destined for adult contemporary and lite rock stations in the future.

I love their new stuff, it took me about a month to really appreciate Crawl, to be honest the first recording of it i ever heard i thought it came across as quite dull compared to what they are capable of. But now i've listened to it more i love it, okay so it's not as fast or quirky as their older stuff, but i like how they're progressing, and it's not to "sell out" etc. All their songs really do something to me, Sex on Fire has got me hooked after the first 5 seconds!

That's cool. I guess I always think of Bob Seger's "Ramblin' Man" when I think of him. Not that I really do all that much. I did use to have a live album of his when I was in the eighth grade many moons ago.

First of all, I love the song.
However, after listening to it more closely, something is bothering me. It sounds very much to me as if there are 3 separate guitar parts in places. I'm not sure how to describe them with words but there's the intro bit, the off-beat bit that joins in with the intro and later there's another bit that's partly muted (when this bit first comes in, at around 33 seconds in, the second part has already stopped but it then continues over the top). I'm not sure how they're going to manage this live, unless they use some sort of looping pedal, which I don't really approve of.
Hope that made sense...

Sounds like they just leave out the off-beat bit. That kinda sucks.
