I'm gonna have to agree to SOME extent with the OP. I agree that some people love KOL so much that they don't even want to admit when KOL has put out a song that isn't that great. I don't think "Crawl" is a bad song, but if I had to put a list together of my least favorite KOL songs, Crawl would make the list. It's grown on me, but it's still a disappointment. And I think people don't want to be let down so they've convinced themselves that they actually like it! Just my opinion. I was really anticipating The White Stripes' last album so much that when I heard the title track/first single, I kept listening to it until I convinced myself that I liked it. Now that time has passed, I've realized that the song and the album actually pretty much sucks! From now on I'm only gonna like stuff that I like upon first hearing!

from nme today, the first track from the followill"s clan"s new album-and the opener to their glasto set-is an urgent slice of raw rockn n roll power . so crawl is to be the first single off the album? but i heard somewhere it would be sex on fire...did i imagine that?

KOL sent out an email advertising that you could DL Crawl. On that email it also said that Sex on Fire would be the first single. I wish I had saved the email, but that is DEFINITELY what it said. At the time I thought it was slightly odd... because wouldn't it then make more sense to make Sex on Fire available for DL?

First song is definately sex on fire i think everyone is entitled to their own opinion, i wasnt overly excited when i first heard crawl, but it has grown on me like on call did (i hated this song when i first heard it) i dont think its by far the best they have done but its a good song compared to half the shit thats out there at the moment. And if us girls want to perv over the boys its all in a bit of fun, i dont think there is any girl on here that only likes them for their looks, the music comes first and always will in my opinion but its good to have a bit of fun. Im sure if Jessica Alba or Angelina Jolie was fronting a band im sure you would be doing exactly the same thing boyo!

give the song a chance people,on first listen its not the strongest of kol songs even the most diehard fan will admit that but whats with the panic?,its not even a single, and the album isnt even out yet at least wait until you get your hands on only by the night before you start judging there latest sound i must admit though when i heard about the new album the band were saying that they were going to get back to there early rock roots in terms of sound(ala yaym) which to my expectations is not the case, but im not gonna knock them for that, ive got faith in the lads to deliver ,which im sure they will and crawl just has me more eager to hear the new album actually cant stop singing the melody of crawl in my head now

Today i came to a spiritual realisation:
How well i do in an english essay really just depends on which teacher marks it. Today, i swear to god, I heard TWO english teachers say the exact opposite thing from one another.. the factor which contributed to my mate losing marks could have been (potentially) the factor which may have boosted her mark.. .that is, if another teacher marked it.
what im saying is: everythinggggg in life, which concerns opinions, is subject to change. its all subjective.
an album will usually do two things simulateously: make a bands popualrity increase, whilst making it decrease. some peeps will love the new lp and some with hate it.
Meh... we might as well just wait around till the lp actually drops, and then form our opinions... and even then, i think i might bite my tongue, coz theres no use. yea we have intelligent discussions, but i dont think we're gonna change anyone's perspectives by stating our own. its so funy watching all these anti-crawl and pro-crawl threads pop up. personally, i need this album to drop if im going to form an opinion - particularly because a song is a piece to a puzzle.. besides mainstream crap, i dont really like individual songs.. i prefer albums - they're like a story.

^^ karma for that when i can rosey. i agree that you can't make a fully formed opinion until the whole album is out, for example i think if The Runner was released on its own without anything to back it up... most people would be like "eeehhh its not great" but as a part of BOTT, its amazing! and once you've heard the whole album the runner fits pefectly, and only then can it be enjoyed on its own. so you may hate a song now (and more power to you if you do...) but you may well love it when you listen to it as part of a whole album

why thank you annie : )
i was thinking of a song to use as an example.. you hit the nail on the head with the runner.. i remember before BOTT dropped, they had it on their myspace and i couldnt get my head around the song.. however, when i listened it on the lp, it FIT in the MOOD evoked by the album.. u need to listen to songs in the context of the album as a whole me thinks

People who think KOL are nothing like U2 are living in dreamland! If you listen to U2 first 3 Albums Boy, October and War they are extremely similar to KOL first 3 albums very hard rocking and very raw. On U2 4th album they went more main stream with big radio hits and by the sounds of the new songs this is exactly what KOL are doing. The other main similarity with U2 after 3 albums is that KOL are prepared to do tour after tour and make albums straight after they finished the prevois tour. U2 again did this and just like KOL they became a huge live draw before they really hit the main stream!
I think people who dismiss U2 on here just see U2 as they are today and forget that U2 and KOL are extremely similar after 3 albums and if KOL continue to match U2 then the next 2 albums will be big blockbuster main stream albums with massive hits (listen to Somebody Like you) which is very much like a U2 anthem!
Please remember U2 started as a RAW Hard rocking band and have developed into the biggest band on the planet for the past 15 years KOL have shown they have the raw talent to match them!

All I read on this board is bullshit about girls wanting to fuck the members of KOL, seriously! I acutally cant believe the fanbase is this shit... I pray for the days of youth and young manhood but its not gonna happen... I think i will just have the last laugh and not bother with this because the fanbase is becoming N-sync esque and whorish... I mean come on girls retain some self respect these dudes would leave you with herpes in a second and not give a shit... listen to the lyrics! Its actually pathectic.. Im out Hahaha, this made me chuckle. Since when did wanting to have sex with someone make you a whore? This isn't the 19th century, you prude, get a grip.

LOL i loved the use of the word "prude" and how you made that person seem so small. karma n-sync? bitch please! nsync is pop.. oh why do i bother. if you made that comment in the first place, theres no point even going there. i dont think you have the capacity to comprehend what i would say.. not when u make calls like that

Um, just to say I haven't 'convinced' myself of liking anything, Crawl has a dirty fuzzy groove that I can't get enough of. I think that's a bit of an odd thing to accuse people of and to me it sounds more like that person is annoyed because it doesn't do so much for them, and doesn't meet the high expectations THEY have of the band. I don't expect much from KOL other than a decent melody and some originality and Crawl fits that bill for me.

i totally agree.
although my opinon is semi-bias as i have lost interest as they have lost rawness.
i would trade the fringes and effects for beards and slurs anyday...

the only similarity to any other band i can hear from Crawl is the fuzzy bass sounding a bit like the effects Chris Wolstenholme from Muse uses... and i love it! and this ongoing nonsense about liking them for their looks is getting annoying so what if they are hot? i wouldnt love them any less if they werent good looking

I don't like Crawl - i love it.
Unfortunatly for some people on this forum - i have every right to as well. I'm not forcing myself to like it, i don't do that, i just really enjoy listening to it (as strange as that may seem to some).
Some people don't like (nay, hate) Crawl. That's fucking fine with me! You can like or hate whatever music you want. If you want to dis KOL (or any other band i like), go right ahead - but that won't stop me from loving them. When it comes to music - no one else's opinion matters to me aside from mine.
But if their's one thing i can't stand it's people who think their taste in music is better then anyone else's. Theirs a few of those people on this forum at them moment who are complaining and preaching about Crawl to everyone else - seeming to think we'll all suddenly turn around and agree with them and admit we were wrong. That will never happen - and the more you and try and make it happen the more you'll be hated for it, because people don't like being preached to like that.
My two cents : Crawl is different, exciting, and cool. If KOL had made Y&YM 3 times, or ASH twice, instead of the what they did - then fact is I probably would have lost interest in them by now. If you want the same thing over and over again maybe you'd be better off listening to Oasis. I also think the comparisons to U2 are unfounded - and i don't see it personally (not that a U2 comparison is necessarily a bad thing in my books) .

I cant believe the thread starter. I cant be arsed quoting you, but be honest, i have read this forum for the last few weeks, and the amount of ppl downing the new album is a farce. You guys have only heard 4 tracks of it, and on that basis, or the basis of Crawl, are giving up on KOL. Ya know what you should go off and listen to someone else if thats your opinions. In NME this week, Caleb himself discribes the album as risky and they took some risks on it, but they felt they had earned the right to take some risks, and i agree. How many bands have released 4 albums in 6 years? really? YAYM, SH and BOTT are all brilliant albums, ofcause the souind has changed, they cant stay the same as ASH for ever, regardless of what a small group of so-called die-hard fans think. You should all go read this weeks NME, and listen to what Caleb says about his views on the album. Personally i cant wait for the new album, and everyone should feel the same. Its seems to me after ASH and YAYM, BOTT was an album that a few ppl didnt get into, and they hoped that the next album (ie. Only by the Night) was going to be return to the ASh an YAYM days !! Get over yaselfs and wait for the new album !! I think you will be eating your own words !!!
