I knoww you're talking about America, but they are definatley getting bigger over here, Because Of The Times is number 37 in the album charts and I've heard Fans played on the radio twice in the last two days. x Ok, so I live in London, and I really don't get how they are supposed to be so big over here! I never hear them on the radio, have never come across another hard core KOL fan other than people I've met off HA. Lordy, guess it must be bad timing And Groupie you make me laugh the way you call girls chicks all the time, mwahaha. Karma. Its funny... I guess like everyone else I've read so much about how big they are in London etc and the fact that the person who introduced them to me was one of my english friends seems to have reaffirmed this idea for me. I think Rosey has summed up the idea of pop music and the reasons for why certain music gets prime time air play up really well. That said I think here in Australia you can have a decent following without needing constant airplay. I mean KOL sold out 2 shows at the Hordern Pavillion in Sydney, which if you live here you'll understand is not too shabby. I mean I've seen the likes of Placebo, the Strokes and lots of other bands with decent followings there... I don't think its radio air play which necessarily constitutes a popular or successful band... Sorry I don't know that I articulated that very well but oh well... Besides I know its a bit selfish but I can't help but find it a bit disappointing when a band you love makes it big time. Ticket prices go up, you have to go see them at stadium shows and ga tickets are a lot harder to come by... Ok i swear I'm done ranting now.

Fans and On Call did get alot of airplay, and as good as they are KoL is still a "marmite predicament" that provokes a "hate them or love" opinion in the general public. I don't think its under exposure moreso than that they'll never win some people over. I don't think they'll get anymore "popular" but I do think they've gotten fairly famous! Also the inexplicable popularity in the u.k. could also be due to the fact that the NME has touted them since day one non-stop and the magazine is like Now! for anyone who likes 'alternative.' It's also fairly cheap and disposable so every Tom could pick one up weekly unlike the expensive monthly "alterna" mags.
As for the U.S.A., if you're not "stripper pop" rap or screamo, there's only so far you can go in the national "popularity" stakes in which you'll always come out with the bronze.

As someone who lives in the U.S. i completely agree. The radio stations over here play nothing but garbage (with the exception of smaller college-run stations). Honestly I only listen to the radio when i ABSOLUTELY have no choice (like my iPod has been tragically left at home) LOL. No offense to folks who like the radio stuff but i think GOOD MUSIC is a work of creative art that moves people.. and the stuff I hear on the radio is anything but. Sometimes it saddens me to see the Kings get so little exposure over here, but then i have to remind myself that some of the most phenomenal bands will just never get 'huge' in the conventional kinda way here. But i think the guys have a good following that will only grow larger with their new album (CANT WAIT ), and their fans over here love them dearly, and in my humble opinion that counts for a lot

I live in Central Florida and there's this pretty awesome station, real radio 104.1. Its mainly lie a modern talk radio idea during the weekdays, but they have really down to earth people on the air. Coming back from commercials lately they've been playing 'Sex on Fire' and 'Crawl' and talking about how much they like KoL and how they've been looking forward to the new album. I couldn't believe it at first honestly. But during the weekends they play mostly only music, like a broad mix of underground-ish music from country to rock to electronic etc. and they absolutely love Kings of Leon. Its awesome because I'm pretty sure they're the only station in florida that plays KoL. So they get radio play, but they're not getting blown to pieces the way most bands get destroyed on the radio over here in america.
