I agree with Neon. People have different tastes and they're entitled to their opinions. I have friends who think the Kings are shit; that doesn't make them bad people (just deluded ) or make me like them any less. And I'm not gonna change their minds by arguing with them about it. Personally, I thought the article was interesting, yes they came across as cocky and arrogant but at least they weren't being bland or fake polite. A lot of their songs come across as cocky and arrogant and uncensored, that's what I like about them. (I also thought some of what they said was slighty tongue in cheek). They did raise a valid point about celebrity in the UK though. I think both Pete and Amy are hugely talented but there's no denying that for some people they are now more famous for their addictions than for their music. And it is disgusting that they're celebrated in the tabloids because of it.

I'm with Buck and Abydos. I also thought the Amy comment was innecessary but since when Caleb says necessary things? Blah...

i'm only on page 3 but i want to post my opinion about the article before the thread is forgotten.
i read it and let it sink in for a day or two before deciding a couple things:
1. it was very well-written. the way KOL's music is described as timeless, that's exactly how i've always felt about them. i am jealous of this reporter and wish i had written this.
2. everything was going great until caleb mentioned the Libertines and other UK artists. i think based on everything else we know about caleb, we've seen evidence of him being cocky, humble, shy, awkward, happy, in love... ...i think this is an example of extreme cockyness and a bit of misinformation. especially from jared's side. they based their opinions on lack of information and plain ignorance (jared not knowing who the prime minister is??? how embarassing right?)
i gotta be honest, i have never heard a libertines/baby shambles song in my life. everything i know about pete is through tabloid reading. and he may be the most talented man in the world but i don't condone drug addiction from anyone. not even the Kings. i'm glad they say they don't do coke anymore but i honestly think that they're lying when they say that. with all that money and availability, you really think they don't do coke ever? i find that hard to beleive.
3. to each his own, i say. or how the say in spanish, "en gustos se rompen generos." roughly translated: "genres are broken in tastes." meaning that everyone is entitled to like what they like. music is just awesome and amazing. and i'm glad we're discussing music. that's what this forum is all about no?

i pretty much always avoid the "controversial" threads, but i figured i'd give this one a stab. when i'm done responding, i'll probably read it and realize that i've done nothing but mention bits of every single person's argument, and therefore have repeated what's already been said. oh well. of course the kings are entitled to think whatever they want about whoever they want. in many interviews they come off a bit cocky, but in even more they come off as pretty cool guys. that being said, i think skatf was justified in her anger. the kings don't usually come right out and specifically slag off other bands (unless, i've been living under a rock. cuz, well i have. shut up, i'm homeless ) again, it could possibly have come down to writing technique. who knows. when we read about them being rude or arrogant, sure some of us get peeved, usually temporarily, but when it comes right down to it, we all love em. we can't help ourselves. so it's unfair to attack skatf's loyalty, as well. sure, she called caleb out on his comment, but she has proven time and time again of her love for the kings. not to mention, not many people travel to another fucking continent for a band they just "kinda, sorta, maybe like." in conclusion, despite any anger or frustration, we're all here for one reason and one reason alone - we love these guys, each in our own way. mine being extreme perviness and great appreciation of their musical creations. calling them out on any behavior we're not too fond of doesn't make one a traitor. and so end the ramblings of an idiot. EDIT: oh, and i forgot. i love you guys. yes, even you with the creepy glass eye.

I stand by everything I said. It's kind of hard to read "They are fine and talented songwriters/musicians. But as people they are absolute cunts - and we all know this." on a Kings Of Leon message board and not get a bit perturbed. No, we don't all "know" this. Don't be putting words in our mouths. And it doesn't matter how far you travel. How many people would travel that far if you had the money? And I certainly wouldn't travel that far to see a bunch of c*ntbags or whatever she called 'em. It seems bizarre. Don't you think? Yeah, I was prolly rude in this thread, but most of the rudeness came from skatf. Who's deleted herself apparently... EDIT: I forgot to say I love you, too, interestingtrash. I'm not fighting with you. I'm just crapping on in general. Also, I'm gonna stop coming to this thread. Cuz I can't trust myself. I usually don't get really mad, but when people consistently use disrespect and condescension in their posts, I get really fucking mean. Have some respect not only for the band but for your fellow posters. I don't go for that shit. So if anyone has anything to say to me, PM me. Cuz I can't come back in here. It's making me look mean.

Is it just me or is this whole thread completely crazy and out of hand??? Fair play a statement was made that was obviously going to cause controversy on a Kings forum, but a few weeks ago there would have been a few comments made and then a few jokes to smooth it over. It would have never got to this stage before, where a devoted KOL fan and valued contributor to this forum would feel the need to leave the site as a consequence of a comment made!
It has certainly tainted my view of this forum. I love the people on here and have never had a problem with anyone of you, but when attacks are made against one individual by a number of people, of course you are going to lash out. I just hope the forum goes back to the way it was a few weeks ago, were the only thing we fought over was who is the biggest spazz! I also hope it doesn't stop people from having an opinion on this site either. I thought we had something really good going here on this forum and I hope that a lot of people on here will join me in not allowing situations like this, change that.

Hmmmmmm - yeah, I should have known that would be controversial. But I have yet to be convinced that watching a bunch of trust fund kids rehashing the past whilst looking bored shitless is anything to drool over. Sorry. I missed The Strokes bus. But I do acknowledge they were a huge influence on The Libs so I give them credit for that. you started this rant of a thread because the kings of leon were ignorant about the glorious libertines, and then you turn around and say something like that? any argument you had went out the window when i read this sorry. and if you have the right to write off the strokes like that then the kings or any of us should have the right to do so about the libs. and in my opinion pete doherty is a shining example of what is wrong with the music industry today. The fact that we cant even determine if he actually has talent becuase he is so out of it all the time says a lot. i think the kings hit the nail on the head to be honest, if that was a normal member of the public doing the shit he does they would be locked up but because he does it hes a "tortured soul" and should be left alone. grow up. if he's gonna act like a tit in public he deserves what he gets.

Regardless of what has been said, I think it's a shame that skatf felt she had no other choice but to leave here. Is this what the forum has come down too?

Whoa...I missed a few days and it's true what they say, "miss a little, miss a lot". Anyway, I'm going to be completely shallow and say I loved the article for 2 very important reasons:
1. Caleb mentioned Ohio. 2. He said they don't mind older people as fans.
I'm a very happy girl.
And I hope everyone comes back, because it's okay to fight and disagree....makes things interesting. It can't be a lovefest all the time - those get boring.

It is a shame that she felt that way, though I don't quite understand why. She did have another choice - she could have stayed. I don't think Skatf's personal choice should be taken as a damning reflection on the forum.

I don't think Skatf left because of anything said to her, I think she left because she might be angry with the Kings, which she is entitled to.
