God I feel old. I just learned who the Libertines and Babyshambles were today whilst researching Pete Doherty. *feeling sheepish* Why can't we be born old and get younger? Yeah, that would be awesome. haha the trouble is the libs have become a bit of a cult band and have more fans since they split up!

Ima gonna side with the Kings - because i hate the Libertines and i think they are incredibly over-rated for a band that basically stole their sound from the Buzzcocks and threw in a mop-top Beatle appearance . Wanna get angry with me over it? Go ahead - but you'll never change my opinion

boo! The link didn't work for me. I can't read the article/interview. Could somebody please copy and paste it? That'd be super duper of you I'm kind of bummed to hear the Kings have been 'talkin' smack' about a few artists I enjoy. But they're entitled to their own opinions (yes it's ONLY an opinion). It kind of just sounds to me like they're trying to stir up some shit across the pond. Typical boys with egos Edit: Nevermind about the article! I found it! haha Caleb realized the coke thing was out of control when the band was more excited about drugs than women!

Oh wow! I'll prolly get my ass kicked, but... it's just a band. The Kings—just a band. The Libertines—just a band. Haven't you guys had a friend who didn't like one of your other friends? And you kinda had to ignore some things? That's what you gotta do here. I mean, when I was rounding up photographs from the Kings' tour with U2, I read terrible things about the Kings from these gawd-awful close-minded U2 fans. Just ignore it. It's nothing to get upset over. And actually... it's kinda sad that the Libertines fans are freaking out like they are. I guess they're just young or something. I mean, they kinda look like losers doing that. There's no reason to get fired up over something like that. It's waste of energy.

I just take exception to them calling people out who have drug problems and calling them talentless. I guess I've taken it personally because The Libs have meant so much to me and I feel that the Kings get away with murder in many respects. They are fine and talented songwriters/musicians. But as people they are absolute cunts - and we all know this.

I thought the article was pretty cool So what if they're slagging off the Libs? I think that the Kings are infinitely more respectable than the Libertines (more specifically Pete) because they have so much more respect for their fans...you never saw Caleb cutting a gig short because of a drug addiction, in fact they all gave up on coke before it started to take over...i think its bullsh*t that the Libs put more heart and soul into their music, the fact is the Kings of Leon have never put on a bad show, never let down their fans, never split up due to drug addictions and got a bad name for themselves and their band in the press, they've just given their all to becoming a true rock 'n' roll band, who knows what they could go on to achieve now? The fact is the Libertines have died now and their fans have gotta live with that, pretty dissapointing if you like them i guess.

I don't care what their personal opinion is on Pete Doherty as an individual, but to write the Libertines off as a band makes me wanna smack Caleb in the balls. He really can come across as a petty little c*ntbag when he wants. I think I'd prefer him to just stop talking now, cos the more he speaks the less I like. I'm tending to agree today, I'm not a big Libs fan but they all just sound like fuckheads in that article. At this rate they are all going to have to get glass stomachs soon, their heads are that far up their own arses. Edit: so that was little harsh, i shouldn't read articles like that when I'm already in a bad mood

Yeah, I think I'm being a bit harsh as well. But I see red when people slag Peter (it happens a lot hahaha).
I'm just going to mention a few things in his defence and then drop the subject:
If he was just a 'normal' guy, he'd still be in the same predicament, we just wouldn't have to read about it ad nauseum every day.
If your sole opinion on him is what you've read in the press then you really need to get a life.
Drugs change people and make them do terrible things that they would never normally do.
I've met Peter a few times, and even went round to his flat when he did his New Years Eve gig for fans. He has always been sweet, generous, kind and adorably shy and soft spoken. I've been to countless shows of his that he does for free. I've downloaded hundreds of songs of his that he gives away for free. I've seen him be incredibly patient with irritating and annoying people. When I asked him if he would play a particular song he said 'of course, I'm here for you'. How many other people with his level of fame are like that? None. Ever hear those kinds of stories in the press? No. Don't believe everything you read is all I'm saying.

I'm 33. And don't consider myself to be a loser actually. Hrm. Well. I used to take bands really seriously until I hit about 22 or 23 and then after that... Pfft. If people don't like 'em, what are you gonna do? They have every right in the world to say they don't like The Libertines. And it sounds like they never really liked their music, so it doesn't really have anything to do with drugs. Nah. I've met them and they never came off that way. 99% of the time they mind they're manners, but people LOVE to get hung up on that 1% of the time when they're bad. Actually, I know someone who met Pete Doherty and didn't know who he was and he was a dick to her. So, uh... goes both way, skatf.

How many other people with his level of fame are like that? None. Ever hear those kinds of stories in the press? No. Don't believe everything you read is all I'm saying. wow... that really opened my eyes.. you see, i read perez hilton everyday (although he is a hypocrit and i hardly agree with anything he says, i mean i dont even agree with his job, altough i read it lol) .. and so im really into tabloids and stuff..and coming from oz, its really quite boring here... nothing like the uk or us.. and the onlllyyy reason i pay attention to pete is because i would turn gay for kate moss- shes hot.... but to the point, i would never imagined pete to be such a nice guy... he seems very friendly, and most musicians arent approachable even when u're being nice *cough* caleb.. from what ive heard anyway thanks skatf for sharing that.. i now know that pete doherty has another side .. from the drugs part. u see, i really really respect musicians who are nice to their fans... like i was at this gig, and this band cobra starship who i had never heard of were supporting.. the crowd loved them. lol me and my mate had never heard of em. point is, lead singer came out at the endof show and took photos with all tha fans. no body gaurd etc etc.. how nice is that?! i once snuck backstage at a music festival with my sister. wow it felt to rock n roll.. we had just wtched the Roots set (this rap band from the US who i highly recommend)...anyway, we approached their bass player and he was soooo nice.. he took us into the bands trailer and we were in there for ages, taking pics with the band and chatting..... caleb needs to stop being so ignorant. fair enough KOL tour like CRAZYYYY, but theres no need to be like that i dont own an amy whinehouse cd... but i know shes talented. "get some talent" is highly inaccurate boys! i mean, drugs mess with people... yes... its acceptable to scream out "get some help... hey actually when i think about it,we all use to do drugs like crazy!"... which is the truth. the kings may have been not that bad, but they were definately hooked. from the interviews i read and stories from them.. and as for caleb's comment about being at a festival and the band after them not getting any attention.. how can he say that?? look, ive never been to a kol concert (going to see them twice in jan 08 yay!!) however, from the footage ive watched, which is a lot, the interaction caleb has with the crowd is "hey everybody, we're kings of leon, god bless you all".. now thats nice and everything, but when leaving a kol gig the only thing a person probably remembers is the fact they listened to their fave tracks of the three kol albums.. i mean cmon!! u go to a kol gig, and basically u are listening to their cds.. now there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, coz thats why people go and are fans- the music. however, its just not memorable, esp when the band is tired coz of their hectic time schedule... point is, u go to a foo fighters concert, dave grohl connects with the auidence, runs into the audience, and they play different versions of their songs.. for example, the first time i saw em, grohl played the acoustic version of everlong all by himself. second time i saw em, he played half the song acoustic, then the band joined in to play the rest normally... i mean, they mix it up and talk to the audience. they dont just play their set list... something once struck me.. i was watching this fall out boy thingy on tv... im sorry to be mentioning them to all the fall out boy haters.. but one of the boys from FOB said something like people cant go to a FOB gig and expect to hear their albums being played live... so caleb, i cannot WAITTT to go see u guys, however i know i will be seeing a gr8 live show.. but i can listen to it everyday for the rest of my life.. i know i go to concerts for the music, but u caleb ca NOT say that no one is gonna remember the next band, when kol play, the only memorable thing is the experience of dancing like a douche coz u love the music, but not much else.. just an observation ive made sorry if i offended anyone.... but my argument is, that KOL have toured for so long that they have mastered each and every one of their songs, and so basically i think that when they play, they just concentrate on getting it right and perfect.. so its not fair to say that another band isnt gonna be remembered..

Yes, I'm contradicting myself at the end, but only to prove that that argument doesn't hold water. And I have to say, you give Pete Doherty a lot of slack but don't give anyone in the Kings Of Leon slack. I've always noticed that. Like, last spring when Caleb was rude to one or two people, you were the first one out of the pen to condemn him. You don't sound like you really like the Kings Of Leon. I'd ask you to elaborate about the things I've said in the past, but... I get the last word, right?

Well, I won't give you the last word when I think you're being really fucking rude.
I'm a huge Kings of Leon fan actually. I've probably travelled a lot farther than you ever have to see this band. Sorry to bring that up, but I don't appreciate you questioning my loyalty, thanks.
Secondly - I cut Peter a lot of slack because I'm a fan but when he's behaving like a prick, I am the first one to say so. Same goes for anyone in Kings of Leon. That incident that you referred to a while back involved a girl being pushed by Caleb. Bad behaviour by anyone's standards, and yes, I was one of the first to agree with her. When it comes to cutting slack Buck - it seems like you think none of the Kings can do anything wrong. Maybe you need to take off the rose tinted glasses for a minute.
And thanks for everything you've said Groupielove - I loved your post.

Well, I won't give you the last word when I think you're being really fucking rude. I don't think I was being rude. Yeah yeah I know. I would travel, too, but I don't have the money, thanks. That's not the incident I was referring to. I can't remember the details, but a guy and his girlfriend had met Caleb and Caleb was rude. The guy said just that, "Caleb was rude" or "Caleb was a dick." I can't remember. And you made more of a fuss of it than he did! I don't know which thread it's in, though... I was surprised! Sometimes people are in a bad mood and do the wrong thing. They're human. I've been wronged bad by the Kings. (I don't wanna say what happened, but some people prolly remember.) And y'know? Later on, we buried the hatchet and moved on. I can't say too much about what happened cuz some of it involves private messages, but I found out that they're good men. And when they got me mad, I told them what I thought about it. And they stepped up to the plate and did the right thing. I don't think I have rose-tinted glasses on.

^^^ how can they be rude to you, Buck? dont they know how much hard work u put into odusty and gathering together so much Kings footage... but if they acted right in the situation, thats nice
skatf and Buck..i want to say somethin
i might only be 16 yrs old...BUT can i just say that we can not be generalising? like i know KOL seem really bad in that interview, and we have heard some bad stories also, but im sure that there have been good stories and interviews where they have said good stuff... do u get what i mean? theres no use in talking about generalisations
we can say the same about pete..good and bad
i mean, its the Kings responding in the right way to Buck that shows they are good people at heart... but like all humans, they can screw up and be ignorant.. i hope i havent contradicted myself. and sorry if i have. but yea, i guess al im trying to say is generalisations are no good...

and as for this whole argument thing going on here (mainly to skatf).... if KOL has wronged you personally... keep it personal. try to imagine a situation where you wronged someone... would you want your thousands of fans getting involved.. no. because its not their business.. just as its not yours to share with us here..

But it turns out that the one that got me real mad was drunk and he explained himself later. And he was and has consistently been an absolute gentleman to me. So I prolly am too nice to them, but they really proved themselves! No, you're right. And I'm really bad about generalizing. You can't say, "So-and-so did xyz, therefore they're good." It's the sociologist in me! Generalizing and categorizing human beings! Just because they were good to me doesn't mean they're good... (random post follows) buck it seems its been a while since i have seen you post on here!!! glad to see you again. Woo! Static Parade! No, they wronged me personally. lol And I'm keeping it to myself.
