p.s. I hated "On Call" too. That's the filler in the album Because of the Times. I skip over that song every time.

I totally concur about their live performances. I was going to touch on it but I've only experienced them once at Bonnaroo. Every time they come around I tend to miss their shows but Bonnaroo was my chance to get a sense of it. Live performances are my favorite part of any band. Sometimes bands suck album-wise and then I'll see them live and I'll understand. It's the energy, it's how they can play songs you've never heard them play, and it's about how they react to the crowd. Ofcourse it's also about how well they can play their instruments. KOL, on the day of Bonnaroo were pretty good. It was weird that Caleb & Matt don't jump around enough and that they didn't play any b-sides or enough songs from YAYM. I also believe they ended with "Trani" which, from what I hear on the board, they often end with. But they played well and their speakers got screwed up and they didn't freak. I also find Nathan to be an amazing drummer. I think he did extremely well that day. I think everyone on the board wishes they'd change it up a bit but I've heard some compliments about how they've gotten better. I hope to see them live soon again and get a better prognosis* about how all their shows go. *I hope I'm using that word right. I'm too lazy to look at dictionary.com right now. fucking right. exactly how i feel. i just say it nastier. thank you i agree nathan too. from what i've heard he can drum with the best of them

Their albums are amazing, so if they sound just like they do on the album....what's wrong with that? In my opinion though, the songs sounded better live when I saw them and they have incredible stage presence.

in my view, there is KNOWONE that sounds like the kings of leon, there albums are second to non, all three of them...which all sound different in there own right!!!
there are no young bands from the states or the rest of the world for that matter that CAN do that...apart from kol
they have adoring fans because of this... anyone who goes to see them comes away saying it WAS the best gig they have ever been too!! id like to meet someone who didnt like them live!!
anyone who dont like them and says that they are "shitty" simply dont understand them as a four pieces band, and what they can do....
this ALONE, should mean they have the respect of everyone who listens to great four pieces band music
whoever started this post, yes you are intitled to your view, but to come on here and put across your lackluster under par points of view...of a very stupid thing to do to be honist, at least say why...insted of saying somthing like shitty".....

damn right. - saw the loser part before you edited. that hits me hard. Over 350 posts on a forum for a band you say sucks - I think loser doesn't quite sum it up.

no i see what you're saying....you're exactly right too
They must be absolutely sick of YAYM songs...imagine writing, practising, recording and playing tht album again and again for the last 4 and a half years....
must be well boring from their point of view

I don't think tours are for the sole/or primary reason of 'promoting their new material'. i mean, i've only been to one concert in my life where i havent had any of the albums - and that was scissor sisters (yes i like em lol). i guess what im trying to say is that the majority of concert goers, to a quite popular band (like KOL for instance) go coz theyre fans of all the albums already. dont get me wrong, quite a few will go to "check out the band", coz they heard they were good. for example, the second kol show i went to, i went with my sis and her friend. her friend only went coz "she heard they were good".. my point is, when people are going to watch a popular band, the majority of these people are quite familiar with the music, and there is only a small amount of people going to check em out. the only time, i think, when a band is touring or doing a show for the sole purpose of promo, is when its free - e.g. i went to a foo fighters gig (best show!!) for free, a couple years back. it was free coz they wanted to promote the new album, in your honor. at the end, dave grohl was like "our album come out on blah blah and we will be back in the fall"....and honestly, even at that show, they did like 2 songs off the new record!! however, i do agree in terms of old stuff. personally, i would love for it to be mainly old stuff, but, i think, with a tour schedule like kol's, i would get SICK TO DEATH of playing these songs year in and year out. how freakin ball breaking and boring!! i often question whether they ever get sick of playing trani. like, if they still feel the vibe whilst playing it live. i mean, this band tours for a year at a time, and theyve had 3 albums!! i would get bored of it. i hope i dont sound bitchy, im not fired up at all actually. i just like engaging in music related chats, because not many people i know are into it. oh and i would also rather be doing this than school work.

Tbh, I just think the latest Kings record is the best one so far. Very polished and nicely done and I have no problems with hearing more songs from BOTT.

Oh, no worries. I totally get what you're saying. It's just that past performances haven't included a lot from YAYM. And I think I'd love if they'd play "Wicker Chair" or "Woo Hoo" just for the hell of it. It's not so much that I want to hear tons of YAYM and very little of BOTT. I just wish they'd kind of spread it out a little. They've worked hard writing all these songs and their shows could really benefit from tossing it around a bit. Especially, considering that maybe one day you won't hear most of these songs anymore down the line. Why do I say that? Well, I saw Sonic Youth quite awhile ago. And there was this guy in the audience who kept screaming at them to play a certain song. And it became quite comical because I think it was Lee Renaldo who shouted out, "Man we don't know that song. We've written so much we can't remember that!" And we all had a good laugh but I started thinking about all the other musicians I enjoy. And how I'm trying to see them everytime they roll through my city. Because I don't want to miss out on a performance that may or may not ever happen again. I suppose I sound silly but that's what I mean. I got into KOL with ASH in 2004. I then had to go back to get in YAYM and it was exciting for these old songs to be new to me! And I think there are going to be songs, no matter how much of a diehard fan you are, that will feel new if your favorite band or musician decided to pull one out of that hat every once and awhile.

I also want to say karma for Groupie because it is fun to discuss music. As much as I hated this thread, I'm kind of thankful for it too. We can all see that we're true fans.
Sometimes it's hard to explain to people because what you want to say is that I get a little tingly in the pants, and a little teary in the eyes when I listen to KOL. And then you sound like a fool to people who don't get it. Whether it be a chat about KOL or music in general, it's fun to put your own understanding on why something rules so much...
gah I sound like such a dork right there!

jebus, not that karma means anything, but minus 57? thats a shit load of smiting. i think thats the most ive seen. you win the award for it.
but anyway, i was listening to BOTT last night, in bed. its such a heavier sounding album compared to the other KOL ones. its much more full on, mature, heavier and... darker??..and more serious sounding. and big-sounding, also.
its isnt my favourite KOL album. but its still musically awesome.
