This is my first post ever. I've been listening to KOL since their first album. I received a copy of the new album a couple of weeks ago and I wasn't dissapointed one bit. I am all for change. Key Tracks for me are Fans, Ragoo, Black Thumbnail, and Knocked Up. I was at a bar this past sunday in Eagle Rock, CA and accidentally bumped into the drummer for the strokes. We briefly talked about the new c.d and he mentioned his favorite track was Ragoo... (he was so wasted he actually tried singing part of it to me) and he also claimed that there where plenty of tracks left of the album which could have made it on any of the other KOL c.d's! I've never seen the KOL live but finally I'll get a chance On Jay Leno and Coachellla!!! So many people are bashing or comparing this new c.d with The Strokes. That is all....

It's not a bad album, it's just there most commercial sounding album to date. If you listen to it as if it is a pop/rock album (e.g. New Strokes album, Killers, Pearl Jam) then it's right on par.

I find it interesting that so many people can have such different opinions about different songs. I, for instance, stand in complete opposition to "Camaro," but so many people seem to love it. And I can't believe that people are hating on "Charmer," I love it despite the screams (but I'm used to abrasive vocals [cite my love for Tom Waits, Animal Collective, blah blah blah]). I still think it's a very effective song.
But what I'm really getting at is that it's obvious that KoL is a band that reaches many tastes. Which I think is a good sign.
And I still don't think the album is disappointing overall.

The whole album is a step in the right direction but i think though well intended it isnt a completion of the thought so to speak. The albums continuity was questionable. |

Carry on listening to the album and it might grow on you. Otherwise - not all is lost, for KOL have 2 perfectly good albums already out o don't get me wrong i love the album and have been listening to it constantly  , but I'm still not keen on charmer its mainly the screams Don't know how everyone has heard the new album but from the bits I have heard live and stuff, I lover Charmer - think its a great track! At first I was unsure of the new stuff but now I love it - can't wait till April 2nd!!! |
