What the fuck is it with Jareds bass playing - on half the songs he just plays one note. Eg Trani, The Bucket, Razz.. okay maybe not half the songs.
I kinda like the effect though.
Killer bass player man, real real tight - he and Nathan definitely hold the band together, considering the weaknesses lie in the guitarists playing which is pretty dang loose.
I don't really have anything to say but I just needed to get that out there.
Kisses

so you are pretty much wrong about everything you said. jareds bass playing is not one note on any song. trani is close but it changes in the pre chorus. and the guitar playing is not at all weak. but whatever

You have to keep in mind as well that when most of the early songs were recorded Jared had literally JUST learned the bass. So I think he keeps up exceptionally well! Besides, you can tell his skills and sound are evolving if you listen to any of their new stuff. The bass line in "My Party" is bass-alicious! Oh, and as far as the "tightness" of the guitars, four words - King of the Rodeo. My goodness the twin guitar playing in this song is stellar. They keep it tight AND right.

god man...i'm not totally sure on figures but im pretty sure when y&ym was recorded jared had been playing bass for TWO MONTHS. i dunno bout you but i would say he done exceptionally well on that album givin the time he was playing. and the second album is full of lovely bass lines. argh man i aint even gonna start on what you said about the guitar playing. put simply its excellent. the tone, choice of chords, lead licks, everything. if i could play guitar like either of those two i'd be a very happy man indeed. my apologies if this sounded rude but as a musician myself it annoys me when people judge others playing. the kings of leon would not be sucessful today if they couldn't play their instruments.

Basically what we are trying to say is that your wrong! Everything about the kings is cool, and unique. I think that Jared's bass playing is fab Who else can pull of playing base for 2 months and record it on an album that sounds good?

I agree, I think the bass rythm arrangement is good. And the guitar's are far from loose? Watch them live mate, they have great musical DNA similar to bands like the Pixes and Interpol I dont mean by there sound, they just seem to understand each other well musically speaking. Hello by the way Im new to this board but have liked the band for a year or so now. Peace

Jared's bass playing is exceptional, being a bass player myself. Love his tone and his rifts are magical, especially in Aha Shake, what would Slow Night So long be without that bassline, next time you listen to KOL just try and appreciate the bass playing it's pure class.
I can't believe he said Jared only playsone note on Razz, Razz is one of Jared's highlights.

yea that was a stupid thing to say....one note on razz?
you need to listen closer sunsine...
and everyone else is right the guitar work between the two is tight....i think the whole band is tight actually especially when you consider most of the slbums were recorded live
damn nonce

jared pedal tones or whatever on an E for most of trani, thats true. he is one of my favourite bass players, im especially impressed with the basslines on Because of the Times. he's fucking good for a self taught bass player.
