Its been a while. I'll jump back in and do "Day Old Blues", the best song from the Kings so far.

Here I have some thoughts on it. The song I've heard is mostly about their mom and being homesick, so I'm assuming this is true, and will follow down those lines. The first two lines give me an idea that Caleb may feel as if he is "suffocating" while away on the road, which would make sense because life on the road in a tour bus would probably have that effect on anybody. The last two may refer to drugs or alcohol. Maybe a dependence or addiction is growing, that is harming him. Maybe he feels his mother worries by "paging the doctor just in case."
Low and behold, things are killing me,

Again references the things that are hurting him or killing him, maybe the pain fo being awaay from home or another sort of pain. I think the last two lines reference to groupies(thinking he and his hair and looks are attractive) and the second line may refer to less than friendly guys they encounter in bars and restaurants and such. They have said that they get dirty looks and smart ass coments from other guys.

First line confuses me. Fast or homeless sleep may be the little rest he gets while away from his home and his own bed. The record and the place may be dreaming about returning home to his mother. which he knows is impossible while on tour.

Maybe she is praying that her boys make it out okay, that they dont turned into drugged out rock and roll losers. The "man like lung" reminds of a girl who smokes, therefore her lung is coated in tar and is therefore man-like. That could be all bullshit but its just what comes to my mind.

Maybe she has given up on her boys, maybe she was literally ill and had a fever, and her sons couldn't be there to take care of her.
Thats just my interpretation of this song. I could be completely wrong. Who knows? Just givin it a shot.
