Hey I know we have a "song meanings" thread which is great, but I was thinking that we could possibly do a line by line analysis of the songs, and try to uncover what Caleb is singing about in each song and line. I borrowed this idea from another forum and thought maybe if people were interested, they could join in. I'll start it off.
Song:Rememo Album:Aha Shake Heartbreak
On a plane, On a plane, off to see the city girls again
This line I think describes encounters with groupies, and other ladies met on tour. By "city girls" I think he means a more open girl, as opposed to the lady like country girls he has most likely grown up with.
Only bringing what they carry on So that you know I won't be long
This probably refers to how most of the female encounters are quick trips and one night stands.
Drippin Beards as cold as hell, the motherfuckers gonna go to jail
Im not sure about this, but the jail and hell references could possibly indicate that he realizes this wild, lifestyle he lives is morally wrong.
Honestly I can see the giggling virgin overlookin me Tryin to put together what they say Although it wouldn't matter anyway
I think this refers to over eager groupies, that are almost too easy to take advantage of.
This rememo is sent for home Its personal but they need to know
This is obviously his way of confessing to his family and to his fans of his wild, sexual encounters on the road.
I'm overdue another round So gain control and take me down You're all tied up as you should be And I'll be cutting out naturally
This last part Im not sure of. The "overdue" makes me think of excessive drinking, which Caleb has often admitted to. But the last two really confuse me.
If you have any other opinions on this song or comments please speak your mind, or if youd like to analyze another song feel free.

i think you offered some great insight on this song. your take on the "drippin beards..." line was especially interesting. It definitley does seem like he could be saying this becuas eh's always talking about the way they grew up and that they know it's not exactly the right way to live. From your explanation as well as thoughts of my own. this song seems to suggest what we've heard him say before about growing tired of the "worldly ways" of the road.

Alright hopefully we can get this thread goin more.
YAYM was supposed to be wishful thinking, so these interpretations are probably based on the Kings predictions of the future of the band.
Song: Genius Album: Youth and Young Manhood
Everbody wants to be a showman , yeah they all got another one Caleb has often talked about people in the media making assumptions, I think this could have some relvance here.
Everbody think they gotta genius, everbody got me on the run Trying to escape the pressure placed on him throug life on tour.
Sometimes I think they come here, just so they can say they can
Possible reference to groupies or the growing fanbase.
And I Cant get alone in my bathroom, need to give myself a hand
A reference to satisfying ones sexual urges.
You cuh cuh cuh creepin creepin underneath my skin
Getting annoyed by fans, media, or even maybe bandmates.
Fuck you and you flashbulb, for snappin my picture again
Irritated by media response to the band.
You drank all my whiskey, you steal all my smoke
Balancing success and the toll it takes on you is what im thinkin here.
And youre crowdin all around me like I got nowhere to go
Feeling cramped and claustrophobic(sp?) about life on the road.
EYes ar gonna roll back, Im here to kill, time for you to go, Im gonna spill, at your fast train, Ill be the kid runnin near the wheel, I aint lookin to make no deals here no
Fantasizing about letting frustrations out in a violent, aggressive way, although I doubt this would be acted upon, probably just to provide good imagery.
You keep stickin to me like a prickly porcupine, gettin your information from the grocery check out line
Again trying to explain the media's assumptions and ideas that they have already made about the band.
Are you through confessin of you little girl obssesion, cause I was only messin and I had a little time
Maybe explaining how groupies are usually "one nighters' but often get too attached to the band members.
Open to other interpretaions, opininons. Feel Free to write your own or comment on mine to keep this thread goin strong.

i think the "you drank all my whiskey" line refers to the people whether groupies or fans that get on to the bus or in to the after parties. i think it's literal. it's about drinkin there booze and smokin there weed and having nothing to give back

That could be true about the whiskey line...never thought about it that way. THanks for the support guys, next I'll try head to toe.

Song:Head to Toe Album:Unknown
Oh hes such a sucker from her head to her toes
Caleb with an obvious slam on Matthew's personality. It is been confirmed that he wrote this about his guitar playing cousin, so you can assume this is who he speaks of.
ol-ol-old day chum, rosita missisippi related he's searching for the soft ball diamond
"Mississippi related" probably refers to the fact that hes the only member who is not a brother. I am from the south and I think I've heard someone use that saying before about a distant family member. "Softball diamond" makes think of a female reference in the same way as in Mollys Chambers. Also because having sex is "home base" it kinda ties in with this line.
prancin' like a badass who's never seen a church house another jolly face in the choir
Here I think Caleb is trying to remind Matt that before he was a rocker, he was another church going southern boy, and he needs to keep his ego in check.
he's a lickin and a kissin her mouth
Most likely refering to Matts encounters with groupies.
screamin at the cousin who never gets no lovin the hairy monkey's covered tonight
Cousin again I think is reminder that he is not an immediate family member. I think what Caleb means by keeping the hairy moinkey covered, could possibly be an interesting way of saying Matthew ain't gettin any "action".
fallin over tables a black eye with no way home a poutin underneath the street lights
This definetely is exposing a probable habit of partying too hard and finding yourself in a really bad spot because of one two many drinks, or a couple extra hits of "shake" (which is apparently always falling through Jared's clumsy hands.)
And no seems to like it out loud
Probably meaning that no one wants to speak up and confront the problem.
I hope you guys are enjoying this thread cause I know I am.

i think matt was "whipped" at some point and caleb is making fun of that in a few points. just an observation. b/c matt had a gf back home for a while didn't he? i think <b>"she"</b> is 'screamin' at the cousin... the rest goes along w/ what i thought. it's all relative.

uh i've also heard it was "Rosacia, mississippi related." if so, it could be refferring to matt's rosy cheeks. oh and liek katie said he was whipped and i think that's what this song is about. when he says he never gets no lovin it's by choice. also he's likin and a kissin her mouth i think is about his girlfriend. i'm pretty sure he wrote it to call matt out because he just sits in the hotel room becaus e he's got a lady.

i wanna do razz. i could be way off, but i look at it not so much as picking on or making fun of, but reflecting on and protecting jared.
"just like the girlies back at cornerstone watch my bugle boy a-watching my throne"
duh the song is about jared, but here i think caleb is making a reference to the christian music festival, cornerstone, that they most likely attended, and girls were probably all over they guys, esp. jared. and caleb was used to it (his throne) and jared was coming in and taking over (bugle boy) or maybe that means "wingman". i dont know.
"sweet mutilation of a sold to nothing man, lord have mercy shake is fallin' through your hand"
caleb is observing that jared, at such a young and tender age is being corrupted and hasn't even begun life yet. "sold to nothing" means he doesn't know what he even wants out of life yet. no one has "sold" him on anything. shake is obviously drugs of some sort and caleb sees it falling into the hands of jared.
"razz the kid!"
corrupt him some more bitches! OR pick on the little bro
"because you loved me im the chosen one"
didn't caleb and jared have a tiff over a girl?
"these are the days to not be havin' no fun"
caleb might be saying that jared needs to focus on growing up and staying focused, not fuckin around
"i listen back to what you told me before, just tell me where to come ill knock down the door"
i think caleb feels responsible for jared and there might have possible been a situation "before" where jared needed help and he wasn't there.
"razz the kid"
again, corrupt him if you must.
and, of course, matt and/or nathan can be substituted for caleb. im sure they feel the same way about jared. matt, maybe not as much, but he is older. i just put caleb b/c he writes most of the lyrics if im not mistaken.
i think i get too into it and over annalyze and it might be confusing, i just really wanted to do that one. i think of all the innocence lost whenever i listen to the song...
