well they were 'pop' at the time, so popular and stuff. and listen to early stuff. rubber soul=pop! do you know what i mean? i love that album so much. i dont think pop was meant as an insult anyway. just listen to the type of music they play. it's pop.
they were also a boy band. look at all the hype, all the girls, their success. boy band.
none of that is insulting. pop can be fantastic. and boy bands aren't all bad.

I do think that some of what the Beatles did was pop. I don't think that it's a bad thing. Pop has been twisted into something different with groups like NSync, BSB, and Britney Spears... I don't see saying that the Beatles are pop as an insult. One of the best pop bands ever, if not THE best

oh yeah then KOL is a boy band 2 To a certain extent yes. (but only in the arbitary sense they are boys and a band.) I was not using the term Boy band to diss them, its just that they were the archetypal boy band in that to a certain extent they were a manifactured band in as much as their image was marketed more than their music. Its only through the development of the transistor that there are any live recordings of them as opposed to screaming fans. They were the first band to have dolls made of them in addition to just about anything that could possibly be branded Beatles. As for the pop/rock debate.....they started of in a Skiffle inspired Rhythm and Blues place (when R&B wasn't Asthmatic girls in hotpants) then they went to being a good blend of genres as they saw the world and grew as Musicians. Undeniably most of their big hits were pure pop afterall Pop=Popular music. |

defining music as pop shouldnt in anyway demean it. and the beatles were definately pop.
i hate all of this elitist holier than thou rubbish when people say that one genre is more 'worthy' than another, when most genre definations are bullshit and just opinion anyways.
