Because america's full of stupid teenybobers not all of them are, but most. And america's thing is rap and emo. I don't know why, but I wish it wasn't. Then I could have someone besides my mom to talk about music with lol, thankfully I can enjoy good music cause I have UK taste

it's funny how this board makes out that everybody in the uk loves the kings, as they obviously dont!
it's a good uk taste anyway lol. we still have a lot of people liking (what i think is) trash!

Yeah, Sel's got it.
There are lots of people that like good music in the US, but the majority of people listen to rap and some shitty pop-punk (NOT emo) bands because they're all that's featured on the music television (mtv and the such) so a lot of people are just not exposed to good rock, indie etc. So they assume they like the rap, pop, pop-punk because that's what they're told to like and often don't have the motivation to look up good bands.
It's the same in the Uk but with a lot of pop, a lot of people like it because it's all they hear. But you have easier access to good bands because of the outlets - music tv like mtv2 (that actually have prgrams and not just constantly play the same videos over and over again like mtv2 canada which plays rap too! ew). Magazines like Q and NME etc are also really well known so they promote bands (which are good or bad) but at least it shows people that there is more music that the stuff featured on mtv.
What I'm saying is that if there was more exposure for good indie/rock bands in America (and Canada but to a lesser degree) then I'm sure they would be as popular as they are in the Uk.
I hope that made sense.

I understand and agree. I'm not very good with words so the way I put it wasn't quite right. You have America's music just right. Its not really emo its the pop punk like smiple plan. Thanks for explaining it better .

Hurrah. And I don't even live in America haha. Simple Plan = worst thing to come out of Montreal in a while. There are some amazing bands from Montreal right now. And Simple Plan is the one that got famous. It's so so unfair/annoying.

we americans r so plastic with our plastic credit cards and plastic surguries-fake plastic boobs and nonstop spending sprees. we'll all fat from going out to eat all the time cause there's nothin else to do but go to fuckin work everyday to pay off our plastic. we're force fed shit music at work and in restaurants and malls over their soundsystems. It's probably all sublimal messages anyway to keep us buying and eating and pacified.
I do have to say that I'm american and I was listening to the Kings before anyone in the UK even knew who they were. My friends too although we're just a small majority. At least give me that much.

Theres something ironic about this thread, considering Kings of Leon is american made, along with alot of other groundbreaking rock bands. Rock would be nothing with out America and theres no denying it. We still have true followers all over the place, but, alas, minds are being brainwashed and in rolls the crap which isnt all the music. They will catch on, the only problem is they havnt been able to reach the audience they could have in America. But i think thats slowly changng, i think they are on the brink of being popular/big here in the U S of A. And i know this is true, becuase ive been spreading them around to all my friends and theyre totally digging them, its just a matter of A) time and B) good PR and "advertisement As long as they keep rocking the way they do.

Rock would be nothing with out America and theres no denying it. yes well that is true, AMerica might have "invented" rock but the british perfected it

what do you mean the british perfected it? doesnt that imply the best rock bands are british?

Post by csolis on Apr 3, 2005 9:02:20 GMT
yes thats what i am implying, i mean u had like black artists that invented rock and then u had Elvis that brought it to the masses and then u have The Beatles that perfected it

well i really dont know, i mean i LOVE KOL, and thats the only band that im really into, and theyre American, but i just went to see Kaiser Chiefs and they rocked my socks!! (who did i get that from? hmmm) and yeah so i like them a lot to, and theyre British, but im going to see The Bravery and they are American, and im starting to like them quite a bit, but im also into Kasabian and Interpol and theyre British, oh and of course Franz Ferdinand, but theyre not British right? well yeah so i like music, doesnt really matter where theyre coming from but i just happent to think that the UK music scene is much more better that the US one, but of course KOL, Strokes and White Stripes, and Modest Mouse make it better!

I'm from america and i'm glad that kings can be big and make all their money in the uk, and let me be one of the few that can enjoy and go see them at small clubs in the US, its selfish but i prefer it a lot. I loved modest mouse and its annoying going to their shows now hearing everyone yell for float on.
