Does anyone know how Aha Shake did in its first week? I was just curious because they've received so much media attention lately. If anyone has any information that would be great. Top 20? Top 10? Over 50,000 copies?

This doesn't suprise me one bit. Its a damn shame the Kings aren't recognized more in the States. I am used to my fave bands selling better in the UK like the Strokes, Oasis, Stereophonics, etc. It sucks but people are so obsessed with the Stainds and Linkin Parks to notice such great bands. I can only think of 3 bands that I listen to that sell well here in the States and that is Coldplay, The Killers, and U2.
Its too bad the Kings don't have many more fans as dedicated as Csolis and everyone else on here in the States. I'm just happy to share my fondness on here. I like to think I have good musical tastes and I can't figure out why others meaning the main public doesn't take notice. Maybe they should go on the OC or something. I guess they will be our kept secret until the rest of the States wake up.

Just to go off topic a little, I live in the UK & am curious - are The Strokes very popular/successful in the states?

They are moderately popular but not as much as they should be. The Strokes are and have been my fave band since their debut album. I just saw on their site that Room on Fire just finally went gold here in the States. When they came to my town they sold out a fairly big venue and they sold out most of the venues on their last tour. Its more of an underground following or people just like them to be hip cause I swear I never hear them on the radio. Maybe I will hear Last Nite occasionally or I think they played Reptilia for a total of 2 weeks here.

Thanks for that. I think some bands are popular with people who "know" music, or are into that scene, if that makes sense. So with regards to main stream, is it just metal like Linkin Park & stuff that are popular?

Your welcome. Well its getting better here to be honest. My station here is starting to play better music but they are still mixing in crappy stuff as well. Like you will hear a song by Franz Ferdinand one moment and then they will throw in some shit like Breaking Benjamins or Hoobastank. I swear most of those bands are manufactured and have no originality. For awhile, mainly 2-3 years ago that was what all we heard. Now fabulous bands like Interpol, Muse, and The Killers are breaking that mold. Its a slow process but I think eventually nu metal will die out kinda like heavy metal and grunge did here

I can't believe it only sold that much. Well, I can believe it because I have to tell people about KOL everyday but they did have a huge publicity push with Letterman, Carson Daly, a 16 page layout in RS, and their album was reviewed by everyone. It's surprising because you think people would hear their music and instantly be drawn to it. I can't figure it out.
About the Strokes, they don't sell that well in the States but EVERYONE knows who they are. They sell out much larger venues than KOL and are on the covers on major magazines and they date movie stars so that puts them on the radar screen of even the most casual music fan.

ok America right now is all hip hop. 50 cent, Eminem, Lil John, and of course Usher. thats all u hear, thats all u see in shows like TRL, even Daily Download!! so thats what u hear most here, and then u have "rock" music. i think America is more metal than anything else. of course Linkin Park is HUGE here, and then u have ure posers, ure wannabe rock bands, like Good Charllotte, Sum 41, Blink 182 (thank god they broke up!!), oh and of course u have ure pop queens like Britney, Hillary and Lindsay!! so right now in American music SUCKS ASS SO BAD!! but like nowhereman said, its getting better, like the white stripes and the strokes and Franz Ferdinand and modest mouse and all these other bands that play GOOD music, exist, but the radio stations dont play them often which sucks but what can u do right?
thanks nowhere for the compliment!!

I think it is just American laziness. People don't want to "find" new music for themselves. It baffles me how all the promotion and press turned into only 20K album sales. Unless people had bootlegged it from the UK since it was released there in Nov., but that is unlikely. I gurantee people will figure it out down the road, and we'll be saying "told ya so". Kansas City show shortened because of Caleb's voice, hope STL is better.

Yes I agree I wish they'd tour more here! All the radio stations play crap music, I wish people would wake up and realize that there are other good bands out there like KOL.

No prob csolis. I can tell by your posts u are a diehard fan which is totally cool. It is getting better I suppose. I just looked up on my local radio stations website they have an article on the Kings. I just wish they would have promoted them better. It turns out that U2 won't come here until the fall so I am gonna only get to see them once this year. Hopefully they make this touring thing pretty regularly. I know the band makes some off the record sales but I am guessing the touring is where they make most of their money. Shit I would kill to have the money they probably make from the UK alone

this is terrible, but i do not know a single person who has ever heard of the kings (other than people at the concert of course but even half of them were clueless). i'm forever recomending ASH to them but people suck and don't want to spend money on a cd that isn't already being shoved down their throats by mtv and radio (we all know that mass popularity automatically means good, atleast as far as the majority of americans are concerned) . i can barely stomach even turning on the radio anymore, everything they play is so boring!

im really old school if u want to know the truth, and i really dont listen to that many bands. I almost always listen to the Beatles, Coldplay, Franz Ferdinand, Modest Mouse, Juanes and of course KOL. i mean i dont like to listen to the radio or watch video shows because thy suck and they never play the kind of music that i like so when i do find new bands its mostly by accident and it depends if i like them. i think u are right salty leave, i mean there is good music outhere but u just have to find it, but i dont really like to find music, it just finds me sort of. oh and tate, apart from the people here and in the official website i do not know not one single person that knows about them. ive tried to tell my best friend to give them a try but she just ignores me.
