it is probably possible to re-assemble it.... when i was in paris i was in the music shops...some of em were taking apart old gibsons and meding them! so the right person could do it!

can't believe this is true, i read about it but i hoped it was some other guitar of his. i'm shocked and really sad and i share the sentiments of the person who said they were a little mad at caleb. meh to that red guitar, maybe that's why it was used in the notion vid, he's been having problems with the old gibson for a while or something and finally lost his temper with it? i can't say i know a great deal about old guitars and if they jst stop working, like they lose tuning quickly and inconveniently mid-song or something and you got to constantly retune after almost every song, that's unreliable and a pain in the arse, and considering how they like to run smooth shows i dnt think it would have taken that long for caleb's patience to snap. maybe it jst became more bother than it's worth? and to be fair smashing it to pieces is a worthy death for the baby. i just hope cause i really am sad about this, it felt right for him to destroy it. he must be sad about this too. dnt be sad  better than a museum despite how silly that neck looks without its body, kinda lonely. someone should burn it in a ceremonious fashion and scatter the ashes at the venue where they first ever saw the kings play live. that seems fitting. |

It would be AMAZING, if it could be repaired. I wonder if we can hunt down this chick, who has the neck of it?  Fuck, I'd glue the thing together if I had too. I hate that, Neil Young has had his same guitar, for like over 30 years, and our Lebby, had to go all 'rockstar' on us and smash the one thing, that I feel, remained of old KOL. It's like a whole new era.... First Nacho, then the guitar, I wonder what's next? |

Is nacho still away? I'd love to think caleb still has the body of his guitar!  and is in his 'things i love best 4evr' box I liked how, through all the changes of appearance, styles, popularity it was one of the few constants, the familiar al touch stone x I might be wrong but i don't think you necessarily need the original neck to repair the guitar, i mean it's severed, i think it's got more to do with the wood and what type of glue you use. The red one he has is really going back to roots since it was played in the red morning light video and for most of 2003, i don't think it was until 04 that he introduced the gibson. I know he said what he said at Oxegen about breaking his new guitar in, which would suggest it's a new guitar but is that not the same one as the guitar used on yaym, i remember reading somewhere about the notion video and it was referred to as his back up guitar so i'm just wondering if it is. I'm just going to assume it's the same guitar and was played on yaym and i'll throw in that it was his first guitar, it's having a renaissance, is inspiring caleb/the band to re-think what they've achieved since then and consider what they might have done differently and then start out as they might have then ... and he's growing a beard and wearing scarves. |

he has two red i think...ones a red 335 and a red 325, the 325 has a smaller body and arch , the 335 has a black semicircle where the dials are the differance  feel free to corect me they both could be |

The red one in the video is a es-335, which is the same as Matt had until he switched to the Sheraton (it was the one with the chocolatey brown fade). You can tell because they don't have black plates where the knobs are, whereas the new red one Caleb's using now, and his walnut one, does/did. It's the same model as his old one, an es-325, and those were discontinued pretty shortly after they were introduced in the early 70's, so it's probably from the same year as his old one. I think he bought it to try and "recreate" the sound of the original because if anyone's heard that great musicradar interview he says that although the walnut guitar is the only one that sounds like KOL he's slowly but surely trying to get to the point where he can recreate that sound. So I think, unfortunately, he's sticking with the red one. The only difference is the colour. ...and the love |

^^ I believe the bottom one with the black semicirlce is the 325 - it has just the one 'f-hole' and a metal trapeze tailpiece holding the strings. It also has smaller pickups than usual (mini-humbuckers), which help give it it's characteristic twang, but that is hard to tell from the photo.
By contrast the 335 lacks the semicircle and trapeze and uses full-size humbucking pickups. It also has two f-shaped holes in the top rather than one. It's similar to Matt's old Epiphone Sheraton.

The body was left near to Nathan's bass drum when they walked off stage so I gather one of the roadies would have it taken it. I was standing shouting at the stage for around 30 mins trying to blag it!! I cant believe whoever has it has posted a picture though. We should find out where the picture came from!! Its made me angry that they have posted it on any website apart from ebay!!!!! |
