i would suggest that matt and jared get embarressed about summat they made at 15/17ish in the same way as most people might get embarressed about summat they wore at that age??? i very much doubt matt is just trundling along with kol i rekon he likes it, but i get what he means maybe its just not the kind of music he might choose to listen too and in the yaym days i doubt he had much say in how things were going. in fact id guess that the producers had alot more say than any of the band did about yaym seeing as it was their first album etc.
the whole cool thing is prob just an age thing too caleb and nathan prob dont care so much about cool any more but jared is at an age (remember he is young) where cool is important. also iv not heard him say he wouldnt make this type of music if he were solo, iv not heard him talk about being solo??
i want them to love it but im pretty sure its like everyones life/job sometimes you love it and sometimes you hate it, and as long as they carry on making great music im happy.
oh finally im sure jareds nice in real life but the last few interviews iv seen/read he has come across as a totall diva and a bit of an asshole to be honest?? apologies to jared fans its just an opinion no need to hit the smite haha

Erm, Jared is a diva. Remember him in those home movies?
*he sings* "I AM SICK OF THIS SHIT!"

Erm, Jared is a diva. Remember him in those home movies? *he sings* "I AM SICK OF THIS SHIT!" that reminds me of when they're recording Frontier City and Jared says, "I love everything about this song, except for the verses and the choruses [and your parts] and everyone else's." that part always makes me laugh.

Jared is such a DIVA and that part always make me laugh too prob my fav of the home movies for that, Caleb's bobble head action and Nathan's rant about peeing.

^^^ No need to ignore it chicken but sometimes, you know yourself, if he turns his back for a few songs things get blown out of proportion and next minute it's on here that he stood with his back to the crowd for the whole night. I could be wrong but as I said he didn't do that at any of the shows I went to but he could have done it at others. I guess there's a good chance that quite a few pics of live shows happen to be made just as he's got his back turned, but that doesn't mean he's got his back turned at all times. Anyone notice he's even facing his amp in the Notion video as well at some point? There was no crowd there, I don't think.. I was a bit disappointed to read that he hates about 60% of the people he meets nowadays. Cos that's a lot of people to hate. But maybe that was taken out of context, cos it didn't specify which people. He seems really nice and polite when meeting fans (from what you lucky people who've met him have said), so it might just be industry people who didn't give a rat's arse about him before OBTN was released and now all of a sudden want a piece of his ass because KOL are the hottest band around. Who wouldn't hate those types? Oh, and sarahrose, I really liked your analogy, it makes perfect sense to me.

^^^ True re the industry people. Seeing as they are getting bigger and bigger it must be awfully annoying meeting fans ALL the time.

I dunno...I go through waves of trying to be sympathetic and telling myself they're only human then thinking what an arrogant twat.... but then I think of the music we've made and I've actually told people NOT to buy our first CD because I actually don't want people listening to it....and that was only 3 years ago.
I'm a firm believer that they all just need a break from the madness...since September everything's just fucking exPLODed and nothing's been even close to normal for them. Once they get home for a while and get into the studio, where they're ALL happy...things will calm down.

I was a little shocked too when he said he doesnt like YAYM except for 3 songs. And in a recent interview he said Trani was a "sucky" song. matt actually ripped my heart in two when he said that but i think i could understand them. they have way more money these days and they can spend in on their equipment and production and effects and new instruments and what not...so they now have another sound! when they recorded their first album they only had a pretty poor equipment (though i'd do anything for playing a real les paul like matt did years ago ) and they didn't have that much money for production/recording...so it's just NORMAL that their sound was kinda "unproduced" and rawww. when they think back now and listen to their old stuff, they surely want to change a lot of things, a lot of song settings y'know. especially matt and jared, because both have grown immense on their instruments! just compare that bassline jared plays in trani or california waiting (it's pretty easy) to a new bassline like in crawl or frontier city or arizona...he's become a very good bass player so he might get bored of playing their older songs. on the other hand they should really mix up their setlist...i'm happy they're playing arizona again...but they could really "delete" mollys chambers from the setlist and play joe's head or red morning light or happy alone instead. cause thats what their early fans want to hear!

Yeah I think it might have a lot to do with what they actually play in the songs. I mean, how long had Jared been playing bass for on YAYM? A few months? A lot of the basslines are really easy on that album (they're still good) but I've found myself playing along to them less because they're not as fun or complicated to play as some of the songs on say, Becase of the Times. So who knows?

Wow, the response to this is so interesting to read through! I thhink there are so many points on this that are very valid, e.g. the fact that when you listen to your early work it pales in comparison to your current stuff, I was watching an interview someone posted in Share Stuff right now, and this pretty much illustrates part of my point. I know that Matt loves to play live, but what I'm saying when I write his heart isnt in it is clear to see in this interview. I ddnt even know he was there until the second part because he doesn't say anything and so he's not in the shot, but the whole time he just sits there playing on his phone. Even when they start talking about the new album which people on here say he is excited about he just looks over, and they have to make a joke to cover the awkwardness whenn they try but fail to get him to say anything, anyway maybe I'm blowing everything out of proportion, hre's the video if anyone wants to see...: www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEg8OZOnoxw&feature=relatedp.s. I feel I must take back most of the stuff I said about Jared because you all made such good points, and seeing in this interview and the others I have watched with him since I posted, he seems so lively and how everyone described him. A naivety on my part!

Im developing a soft spot for Jared...I think he gets a lot of underserved stick and ill hold my hand up to the fact that I know i give him a bit of a hard time!! I wonder (Im not a musician but......) when he turns his back and moves closer to the amps (& mirror) is it anything to do with hearing the bass more easily or something rather than admiring himself and/or turning his back on the fans? ?

I always thought that when Jared turned his back it was, I could be completely wrong, to keep in sync(?) with Nathan if that makes any sense...

I think that talking about him turning his back to the audience became some sort of joke, just to pick on him . I mean, at least I think that he doesn't do that on purpose to ignore people or something like that. Maybe it just became a kind of habit, you know? I was watching the Notion video and he turns his back there too... so it's just something he's used to do now... a new way of behaving on stage and people will have to get used to it, I think.

Can't find the link right now, but in the extended podcast version the interviewer asked them a question about cars and Matt suddenly came to life! Started talking a blue streak about engines and tech stuff (reminded me soo much of my brother ). I swear, i've never heard him so animated before. After about 5 mins the interviewer apologised for taking them off topic and Matt said no problem, this was really fun. If u find this interview (or if anyone else does) can u post it please Found it! It's part 4, in the extended part of the podcast (about 10 mins). "I've got a b-rod muscle" haha. No clue what they're going on about, but still fun to listen to. www.exploremusic.com/video-audio/
