I was just wondering whether anyone reckons they'll ever realease the full Cold Desert take without the productions teams editing of it. It fades out at the end and comes back, I think there wouldve been someone saying we cant have that being said or its too explicit etc Just thought it would be interestin to hear! :

I never thought of that. I just presumed that they wanted that fade in it. Either way, they would never release another version, I don't think.

Yup, can't see it happening. We all know how Caleb feels about that song, I reckon it'll stay the exact way it is. Raw, bittersweet and perfect.

it is, i'm confused, a little. achurley, you wanna hear whatever sound it is that's in the faded out part? maybe it wasn't recorded, the production team thought they were finished went whoops, quick put that fader back up before they notice we've stopped recording and hurt us. it never got recorded is my suggestion. i have to hear this song now. caleb does sound drunk. oh my god! i never noticed the drunkenness in his voice before. i hate this song drunk people aren't allowed to be beautiful people it is against drunk people law, drunk people know this law. i hate this song

the song is faded out because the song was supposed to be over.... however, caleb was drunk and more lyrics came out so the band started playing again

i'm so glad that song doesn't finish there. it's so much better when it comes back and i love the ending alot better than jst fading out, it deserved a better ending than a fade-out is there someone whispering in the guitar part at the end? jst heard that

i agree that its possible there isnt actually anything else to be heard, i just know Caleb said that a lot of things were said and played to record the song. i doubt that in that state the band would nail a five minute song first time around, i think its more likely it was a drunken jam that they played until they felt they had enough to make a final version. its very strange just to fade out and fade back in for no reason, i think because he was plastered he said other things that didnt work. it was after all improvised lyrically, the original idea was born out of Jared's bassline though, it is a great song and i think a lot of people can relate to it...

i have always wondered that....its a bizarre choice to have it fade out but its certainly not like 'oh we couldnt let them hear this' etc its either that the producer turned the master fader down while they were recording, lik you said thinking it had finished....or maybe there was a mistake? i have no idea...im still unsure as to whether they had that planned before or not...

THAT'S why it fades out ?! I knew Caleb said that he was drunk and he started free flowing some lyrics. Makes sense.
Yeah, i think Caleb said that was the only time they ever recorded it, and he won't rerecord it because he feels it would lose some meaning.

Somewhere i read (maybe the cd insert?) that he sings "Here's to you...here's to me...oh Lord...nobody knows...nobody sees...nobody but me" And i dont get how someone said the band stopped playing then started again...because the music never stops, you can hear them the whole time. and i cant believe anyone could hate this song! lol Wow. Everyone i talk to loves it so much it makes them cry! And i also dont think Caleb sounds drunk at all...i didnt even KNOW he was drunk in it until i saw the Home Movie about it.

I don't hate it, not at all, I said i did because well, i don't know, for the same reason i say alot of things, i'm free flowing hahahahaa no seriously, i'm not gonna be happy about something that makes me feel that sad, am i? that's all i meant I hear the music all the way through as well. the whispering bit, no, not the 'here's to' part it's hidden, like the "jessie" in the trunk, almost like you've imagined it, which makes me think considering it's this band i probably havn't lol the whispering part is almost impossible to describe what particular part of the song i am talking about to be fair, 5:17/5:18 it's not really important, i think it's just something that was picked up due to the way it was recorded Also coming back to the fading bit (and omg could i be analysing this song any more right now? ...) there's somebody singing or what sounds like singing at about 4:15 so maybe it did fade out and stop, then later they came back to it and put some sound in between to wield the gap, but that doesn't make any sense either. i don't know achurley, i just remember like ilovematt said about them not wanting to record it again *shrugs* there is an awful lot going on in the background tho, plus they were drinking very heavily, which is why they probably can't give us a straight answer haha didn't they say they'd jammed it out a couple of times? but (i think) caleb didn't like it, then he changed his mind, suggested they run through it, then (i think) jared goes 'oh we played that last night' i don't rightly know :/ o woah! look at my big fat post

Caleb does sound really drunk, i was surprised because i'd listened to it so many times before knowing what state he was in but never been able to hear it, until like, yesterday. It was just an observation O GOD!! i seriously can't listen to that song. he's getting more and more upset / drunk sounding, the longer the song carries on i.e after the first verse, this is so personal! i feel so rude like i'm butting my nose in or something. giving me a head spasm! bad kings!! this happened with trani and caleb's singing almost gave me a breakdown hahahahaa thanku how does he do that? vastly talented vocalist.

I think the reason Calebs voice is so unique is because its so worn and scarred, all the drinking, smoking, shouting, singing etc has given it character that other singers lack because they're too worried about ruining theirs. ps rockchick26 I think instead of "..oh Lord...nobody knows...nobody sees...nobody but me" it's "...oh it hurts...nobody knows... etc"

Ok i just looked it up in the cd insert cuz i couldnt remember if thats where i read it or not but in there it says everything i said except i thought they said "oh lord" but he's really saying "on to us" (which makes not much sense to me LOL)

To me it sounds more like "here's to you, here's to me, woah to us..."
I dunno lol.
But if I ever met any of the guys I think I would be tempted to ask about why Cold Desert fades out then in again. They probably wouldnt tell me lol.

Always ALWAYS crank up the volume in wee steps as it fades then back down again so it stays the same throughout. The number of near crashes I've had doing that while driving...still, SO worth it.
I'm too young to ffffeel this oooold....kills kills kills me every time.
