Only By the Night is amazing!! It's not my favourite album of KOL's but it's still super genius. The songs do grow on you, I mean I was quick to dismiss 17 but to be fair I'm listening to it more and more recently. I can't pick out an individual favourite track as it's constantly changing, I love Manhattan but at the moment Closer is the one. I haven't taken it out of my CD player since the first listen and it will be a sad day when it does get taken out, its always the same with their other CDs too! I'm constantly finding new things out about it whilst listening both musically and lyrically and I'm not ready for a break just yet. I bought the album in the States as I was on holiday at the time, was searching frantically for it and found it hidden away on the bottom of a new releases shelf (can't help but think that scenario was completely different in the UK!) in some music shop so snapped it up excitedly. It was a bit torturous though knowing I couldn't listen to it as my holiday went on for another 3 weeks and I had no access to a CD player of any kind!! I remember near the end of my holiday I was in Virgin Megastore in LA and I heard this song fading in, I instantly knew it was KOL and me and my sister looked at each other and at the same time said 'Kings!!' lol! So we just wandered around the shop in silence listening and getting all emotional....the song was Cold Desert. I thought well if there are more gems like that on there, the album is gonna be quality and it raised my anticipation for hearing it further! That's me done, some of it not relevant but I love OBTN.

^ awh that must have been absolute torture!!! :s i just noticed i'm a taper jean girl!! awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww Cool whiskers, Karma when I can! Oh yes indeed it was torture! As much as I enjoyed my holiday that was always nagging in the back of my head, not to mention all the Spin magazines (I think it was) I kept seeing with KOL on the front! Literally the first thing I did when I got home was listen to it. Talk about obsessed!

I know, we couldn't have timed it any better! It was like as soon as KOL came to the UK for promotion duties we left the country! haha! Had a coach trip around the west coast of the States visiting California, Arizona and Nevada. It was amazing!

bet it was! wow. i so wanna do something similiar to that one day, been promising myself for years now, that i'd just drive round america for months what was yr favourite place? could you listen to any music at all on the road? thread related - Nathan's vocals really shine on this record. The ooo'ing in particular! and i just noticed how much i like the somewhat thunderbirds /puppet melody in I Want You from Caleb. the way it goes up and down sounds a bit like he's on strings lol

Yeah I wouldn't mind touring the south now! Get some whiskey down me or something lol! I'd say Arizona was my favourite place, just the landscape was WOW, everywhere was pretty spectacular though. San Fran was also tops! All I could listen to was my mp3 player, so I had KOL's previous 3 albums on shuffle to tide me over. I dunno how many times I listened to Arizona just cause I was there. The same for California Waiting lol call me sad but I love it! Oh and I didn't hear KOL at all in any shops/restaurants whilst in the US. Thought SOF might have been on in the Hard Rock Cafes but nada nothing! Oh yeah Nathan has got a lovely voice. I love his Revelry Oooohs and his wailing on Use Somebody gets me everytime!

When all else fails get the JD out I say! lol!
I seriously would have run mad if I didn't have my mp3. Yay for it.
I know, every one I went in I was literally praying for any KOL to come on but nothing. I think that shows the difference of how big they are in each country though.

Razz!, your descriptions of each song are (for me) so right on!Thank you Just giving my two cents. I guess I can't deny KOL no matter what they do. Thankfully, I love them enough to appreciate everything they do, no matter how much they've evolved. I'm so glad they make such great music. It's one of the greatest things in the world for me xxx

I love....no, LOVE OBTN, for the pure and simple fact that I would not have been completely overwhelmed by their entire back catalogue if I'd never bought it. Yes, I did buy it on the back of SoF, the day it was released. Yes, I am a 'new' fan. Yes, I was hit by music in a way I never have been before in all my 34 years. Yes, I like all the previous tracks they released but didn't buy the albums at the time. Yes, that just goes to show that their strongest tracks remain on the albums. And no. I can't imagine any band ever affecting me the way they have, and I have OBTN to thank for all of it. Finally, yes, I do ramble on.

Han, how on earth can you manage to come HERE from the UK and hear KOL playing somewhere?? And I live here and never have?? oh the humanity I know Sav, I seriously couldn't believe my luck as I know how much their air play differs between here and the US. I think it was because it was a new CD of the week....I loved that it was Cold Desert though rather than SOF or something. Ah I keep going back to that memory and it makes me smile even though my heart was about to burst at the thought of waiting another week to hear the CD.

I wouldn't be able to handle it that's for sure. I'd probably go knocking on doors

I was tempted but then people might have thought I was a bit of a stalkerish freak, and I couldn't handle that in another country. lol!

yes i'm resurrecting this thread.
so i'm happy to see that OBTN (#26) is above Katy Perry on the Billboard top 200, but extremely upset that it's below Kid Rock, Nickleback, Rhianna, Britney Spears, Pink, Lady GaGa and Kidz Bop?!?!
come on, this album rocks!!
