I know SongMeanings isn't always a particularly reliable source, but from time to time I skim through the comments. I found this interesting bit by someone:
"actually, I read that caleb wrote this song about jared. It makes a lot of sense. They were touring a lot, and jared's the youngest (eighteen). It's basically caleb's observations about jared (how he's dealing with the fame), and the things that would get on his nerves. look at it in the context of the song, "I'll be the one to show you the way, you'll be the one to always complain. three in the morning come a bang bang bang, 'all out of fags and I just can't wait.' " another clue is in the last verse when he says "I hate the way you talk, your japanese scream." not only is jared known for his girly laugh...the first bass he played was japanese. but at the end of the day, as clichי as it may be, it's about brotherly love, "always remember the pact that we made. too young to die, but old is the grave."
makes sense, no? or did everyone already know this and i'm just slow?

oh look, my memory is shit, so maybe someone needs to help out but i know it was in an interview somewhere where caleb said it was about being away from home on tour and turning into a real asshole - all demanding and so on and how you end up hating the person youv'e become and would like to kill that person off.
I'm racking my brains and can't place it

I knew there was a suicide reference , that's pretty obvious! Kinda depressing, but in a strange way because the song is so upbeat.

yeah i get all that HOWSOMEVER....... maybe caleb wasn't specifying who was turning into a dickhead, but then again just who is balding?? and who can be the biggest asshole in this band?? OR....... it's also obvious that at times caleb's lyrics cover more than one thing/person/perspective in a song well, i think i've muddied the waters enough on this one - still trying to place that interview. though of course caleb has never been known to lie  |

was talking about Jared always getting caleb into shit. Like you kick the bucket/you do something, and I'll swing my legs/and I'll get the blame

But then I again I always like to here the inspiration behind the lyrics, especially coming from Caleb because it seems like there's so much going on his head. |
