^^ i'm not saying i wont listen to the old albums and the select songs i enjoy from OBTN.. and if they put out a 5th album that is decent i'm sure i'll give that a listen also. My only point is that i have been a HUGE fan of the BAND themselves for quite some time, but I can no longer stand behind what they are doing with their music and how it's being unabashedly marketed to appeal to the 14-17 year old female age group. Let me say again, no offense to those who fall into that category. You guys have every right to love the guys and their music and everything that they do. But from where i stand, its just not for me anymore . That's all.. I mean.. www.imdb.com/title/tt0397442/plotsummary need i say more? LOL (again, no offense to fans of the show.. this is just MO.)

I am not turning in my KoL fan card because of it but my friend went to the Houston show and said Caleb was upset that no one was into the music, not the old stuff, no fire from the crowd. Well if you put out an album like this and you OKAY songs to be played on shows such as G.G. then you are going to pull a crowd there looking for only 2-4 songs. You did it to yourself, KoL. You wanted this, now you have to play infront of half-ass fans who only want to hear Sex On Fire and On Call.

Awwww ^^ i dont think thats fair!!! I dont think they are sitting at home going "now, how are we gonna get more teenybopper fans", its just the way its turned out!! I think it'd be a bit silly of them to snub the tv shows for that age group just, that would piss me off more!! This is the album they wanted to produce, the one they were all involved in and they wanted to see how it worked out! Caleb said if noone likes it then at least they've learned from it and they can do something different. Also, I'm older than you homegrown

^^ hehe i didnt know if you fell into that age group. re-reading it sounds like i was directing it at you but i was not i was just speaking in general. I respect your opinion completely, and have agreed with things you've said in other posts so, this is def nothing personal .. but i have to agree with rexrupert (karma for your post btw).. They wanted to be big in the US.. and i think they altered themselves to attain that goal. They know the kinds of bands that get big here.. they have seen the rise and fall of Britney LOL.. The popular bands here are just AWFUL for the most part. So I gotta agree and say they got themselves into this situation.. i dont think anyone can argue that their image has done a 180.. again, not that changing your looks/musical direction is NECESSARILY a bad thing.. but in my opinion, in the case of the Kings.. they could do better, and have done better. That's all And on a side note.. back to the subject at hand.. i dont think that them using their music on tv is making them sell outs or whatever.. its just the type of shows/movies you associate yourself with is a direct reflection of who you want to appeal to as a band whether they like it or not.. and they HAVE to know that. Look at Eddie for instance.. He did the whole Into the Wild soundtrack, and it was a great album in itself, and added a lot to the movie. THAT is the way to do it.. Not putting 4 of your songs on ONE EPISODE OF GOSSIP GIRL. IMHO

On "The Hour" Caleb said something like this is the album to kick crap off the U.S. radio. www.youtube.com/watch?v=kakpIQmiCggBut somehow they are walking a fine line between their music and the crap on the radio. Getting really blurry too.

I guess they are taking risks............I respect them for that and I respect the fact that they are in it for the music and thats my opinion right now

It was a freek accident that i happend to turn the tube to Gossip girl the other night. as i sat watching this pretty cute blonde chic stare at some dumb ass billboard, i hear a familiar sound. kings of leon, in a teen drama show. kings of leon, to me, are a raw, ground breaking band that blew down the doors. i cant explain how much i love the band. their music is incredible. but when i, (21 yr old male) hear my favorite band on a fucking teeny bob show more than once, my thoughts on the band change. i hope that a long long tour over seas puts them back in their place. give them a chance to see their real fans. I think its time for Kings of Leon to take a break. They are getting a bit big for their boots here in the states.

i'm a 23 year old girl/woman who loves gossip girl and kings of leon. i'm a multi-faceted, complex, versatile individual and my tastes do not necessarily reflect each other.
with that being said, i'm also torn with the kings music on Gossip Girl. my heart was beating super fast and i couldn't focus on the episode (it was a shitty episode anyways) because i was thinking about the music and how personal it is to me.
however, i do want to add one piece of information to all those claiming that GG is too "teeny-bopper" for KOL: Gossip Girl is notorious for having scenes where teenagers do lines of cocaine and have sex with each other in limos. Also mentions of impotence and penile flaccidity have popped up (pun intended) in a couple episodes.
May I remind everyone that the Kings have songs that discuss all of the above subjects....just a thought....

geesh i'm not defending the show or promoting it in any way. i just thought i might point out some of the hypocrisy in the whining i've been hearing... "why were the kings on this teeny-bopper show? boo hoo. they're not my favorite band anymore waa waa" (i'm sorry your sarcasm really irritated me fingersinthedirt. i pride myself in being as honest as possible on this forum and this topic is no exception.)

I agree with you Laura. I hate it when people are calling Gossip Girl a show for prepubescent girls, when they actually have never seen the show themselves. I love Gossip Girl (and the Kings, of course) and I'm 18, I'm studying languages in a college university and don't consider myself a desperate little girl watching teen dramas and liking every mainstream band. My sister, who is 23, living with her boyfriend and who is a respectable midwife in our city's hospital loves the show so much, she bought the books and the DVD. I must admit that the Kings where a bit overplayed during that episode, but I'm not heartbroken or something. I don't blame them for letting TV shows play their music. Loads of bands do that, and they're not all Britney Spears or Sum 41, or whatever. Nor am I scared that a lot of teenage girls will now start to get into them because of that show. Not in Belgium at least. I don't know anyone younger than me who likes that show. It's aired on a channel which appeals to women in their thirties, so .. Everyone who is disappointed in them 'cause they're 'selling out' by doing things like these and refuse to be 'real' fans anymore: please, get a grip on yourselves .

As someone said before, I think it's the music label who the film/TV makers go through for approval not the band themselves, but even if KOL were to approve it is it really a huge deal? They've been featured on shows for people of other age ranges before, so why not the supposed 'teenybopper' age range? (Btw, I guess I do fall into that category being 15, but I don't watch Gossip Girl)

it's definitely the record company that authorizes the band's music in movies and television shows. and their music was in cloverfield too and i heard that movie sucked, no one complained about that!
pistol of fire was on csi: miami too and i don't know about you guys but that shit excited me, i love that show.
i really don't see how their music being put on television shows is that big of a deal, anyway. i'm pretty sure ed westwick (chuck bass) is sickly obsessed with kings of leon so i'm sure he had a little something to do with the show playing not one, not two but three songs of theirs.
i don't know, i don't see the big deal. i don't love gossip girl but i love kings of leon regardless of what tv show their songs end up in
