I'm getting really emotional!! I remember lying in bed new years eve 1990 listening on the radio to them play the first show of the point and just been blown away by the noise of the audience chanting when the band left the stage. Then they all started singing together "how long to sing this song" over and over again till the band came back on. I'd never heard anything like it.. I was 14 and had never been to a live gig. A major musical awakening!

^^its weird. I know a lot of people dont like U2 (and often with good reason ) but back then they were at pretty much the exact same stage that the kings are at now.... on the cusp of the BIG TIME...scary really..lets hope caleb doesnt go down the Bono route

Well in fairness they've made some amazing music and they've been going for years so no matter how much I dislike some of the decisions they've made more recently I cant take that away from them!!!!!!!! That was interesting what he said about thinking that was possibly the end of U2, imagine that??? How different would the Irish music industry be if that was to be the case. I cannot fucking wait for Friday nite!!! How are we gonna get u a ticket??? They better pull Arizona and Trani out of the bag tho or I shall freak the bean!!!!!!!

A major musical awakening! Montana, I had the exact same experience that night! I was 12, and I had been to a few pop concerts before (I was an early starter ), but I remember listening to U2 live on 2FM that New Year's Eve as I lay in bed, hearing the audience singing, and thinking there would be nowhere better to be in the world at that moment than in that audience. In the years since I've met a few people also just on the cusp of their teens back then who felt the same way that night. I dunno if I would class myself as a U2 fan, but I grew up listening to them - my babysitter's brother started the U2 fanclub when I was a kid and I remember hiding a transistor radio under my pillow when I was 7 to listen to 'Pride' on Dave Fanning's show - and no matter what I think of them now nobody can deny their influence in this country.

I reckon it's worth a try - at least then you'll know you did your best.

I've never had to do this before so bit unsure Wonder have many people managed to get tickets at a reasonable price outside. I know there was a few HA'ers who hung round the SECC and didn't get in...and the point is a much smaller venue..

The Point is much, much bigger than the SECC. It's 15,000 capacity now. But yeah, it would be a big risk...do you live in Dublin? If not it's a bit too much to risk.

nope in galway...and heading to belfast saturday then home to donegal for xmas..so between packing a day early baby sitters and petrol money i'd really want to fairly sure of getting in plus as i've ready seen them in glasgow and am heading to MSG i think my family and friends would deffo be calling the men in the white coats for me if i went to dublin with no ticket...and do you know what...it might be justified

You're in Galway! Oh god, ok, that's a different matter then - unless you get a guaranteed ticket you're definitely better giving it a miss!

Montana, i'm a Donegalian too! Living in Dublin, would be funny if we knew each other. I'm going to try for a ticket outside, there's always people that try to sell at the last minute, have faith! Moonchild - Rory Gallagher fan too?
