Okay, I'm kinda grumpy today so I'm going to get something off my chest and totally piss everyone off. To be honest with you, the lyric "Jesus don't love me. No one ever carried my load" makes me a little angry. WHAT F*&^% LOAD, CALEB? You're a young multi-millionaire dating a gorgeous supermodel. Your job involves travelling the world and playing music to thousands of adoring fans. Compared to a lot of people in the world, he's got it pretty damn good. Okay, I'm done. Sorry for ruining the lyrical lovefest. (I told you I was grumpy) Carry on..... I don't see how you can judge someone when you don't even know them or what they've been through. It's not all about being rich and famous. I kinda agree with this. We don't know what goes on in his head, we don't know everything that happens. Sometimes people just feel like that sometimes unfortunately.

erm yea its just lyrics....not necessarily talking about himself... i think anything from Closer is amazing i like 'i see a storm bubblin up from the sea' or the line about 'Leaving me stranded all in love on my own' is amazing 'stranded in this spooky town, stop lights are swaying and the phone lines are down' 'countin on the night for a beautiful day' I agree whole heartedly! Lyrics in closer are amazing!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok, i don't know much about much, but i do know that sometimes you live two lives....one that seems perfect to everyone because you seem to have everything (millions of dollars, supermodel girlfriend, fans that would do pretty much anything for a chance to just talk to you) and then another that no one knows about...one that's really not that glamorous and fulfilling. I think Caleb is a pretty humble person and that this whole fame thing throws him for a loop sometimes. I mean, I'm sure he enjoys the attention and all,i mean who wouldn't, but at the end of the day he may feel completely lonely and unhappy with how he lives, or lived, his life. Parties, drugs, sex, and fame can only make you so happy before you start feeling completely useless. Plus, i think the lyric is talking about how he maybe felt that Jesus didn't love him because he actually saw how things were spinning out of control and Jesus is supposedly the one that comforts you. Now, keep in mind, this is just my theory on that specific lyric. Thinking with a Christian frame of mind (which is not necessarily mine), the cross was everyone's load that Jesus was carrying for us so no one would have to. When i heard that line for the first time, that's what i understood...that since Jesus doesn't love him, Jesus never carried his load or burdens because he (Caleb) still feels them today. I hate to bring it up, but the guys were pretty exposed to Christianity and all, and being from the south, I know how sometimes the guilt eats away at you...especially if you've been brainwashed into believing that there's only one right way to live, otherwise you're going to hell. I don't know if any of this makes sense, but that's just what i took from the line...and i guess that's why i thought it was so amazing...because it was so insightful and it had such a deep meaning...they were words that you had to think about. Sorry, this is so fucking long...i'll stop now.

"Hand over your heart, let's go home." ... and everything else in Cold Desert, basically. the first time i heard that i thought it mean reach into your chest.. take out your heart and give it to me. but then i reaslied it could mean, putting your hand on your chest kind of thing. what do you guys think? i think the former.

I don't think it should be taken literally - I think he means something like "admit that you love me". At least that's how I took it.

Man, there are so many great lyrics on this album. I agree with every lyric posted thus far, especially the lines in Cold Desert. I've been struggling with depression for the last three years. It can make you feel so alone, so abandoned, so hopeless and worthless. That song really struck a cord with me. Yes, I cried a bit the first time I heard it. "No one ever carried my load" doesn't really strike me as 'poor me I have it so hard' so much as it expresses 'I've been going through this all alone, no one or religion hasn't helped carry my baggage'. Or perhaps it's just that he's never had a true companion or connection with someone who can identify with and alleviate his fears. It's totally up to interpretation, though.

i think being famous, the tours, the fans the women might make someone feel even more lonely. more lonely than we could understand. when i see caleb, especially that second last home video where he talks about cold desert that what i thought before of him being a bit cocky, a bit arrogant etc is actually someone who is lost and i think EVERYONE can relate to that. karma moon

We don't know what goes on in his head, we don't know everything that happens. Sometimes people just feel like that sometimes unfortunately. agreed, just because someone may seem to hav it all, doesnt mean they dont face thier own demons. caleb knows best his relationship with the big man, so he can write what he wants about that relationship. not saying i agree with the lyric, dnt even tink caleb agrees with it, but it fits the song, heres my fav lyric And I told myself boy away you go It rained so hard it felt like snow Everything came tumbling down on me In the back of the woods in the dark of the night The paleness of the old moonlight Everything just felt so incomplete plus im too young to feel this old

Far from being arrrogant, it seems to me that Caleb is quite insecure, evident in that home movie when he is making that song (cant remember which one ) and Angelo tells him to take a break for the nite, the way he was before Glastonbury, he has said he was so nervous he couldnt talk to anyone, his obvious nervousness in tv interviews etc. I guess people have an idea that he should be arrogant and so imagine him to be even though he could be feeling the complete opposite. At the end of the day, no matter what you have in terms of material things if you dont have love for and confidence in yourself then the other stuff doesnt mean a hell of a lot!!!

I don't think he comes across as arrogant to be honest. You can definitely see he is shy and I can relate to that (I'm sure most people can). And the way he was before Glastonbury etc, people make see it as arrogance but I really don't blame him for feeling like that! It was a huge moment for them! I think he's a very honest kinda guy, very in touch with his feelings, as we see in the Cold Desert home video

I think people have already mentioned a couple of my favourite lyrics
"but the demon in me was the best of friends from the start" is one

Revelry is also full of great lyrics.
"It rained so hard it felt like snow. Everything came tumbling down on me in the back of the woods, in the dark of the night, the paleness of the old moonlight. Everything just felt so incomplete, dreaming of revelry"
Caleb really impressed me with the lyrics on this whole album. Very evocative imagery and heartfelt.

I have so many faves, so ill whittle it down to a few "Your fault, my pride, don’t ever need to apologise As your lips, unfold, shaking purple from the cold You better learn to crawl; you better learn to crawl, before I walk away You broke, my mouth, the bloody bits are spitting out" "I hope its gonna make you notice, someone like me" "You told me you loved me, that I’d never die alone Hand over your heart lets go home Everyone noticed, everyone has seen the signs" "What a night for a dance you know im a dancing machine With a fire I my bones and the sweet taste of kerosene..........But the demon and me were the best of friends from the start" "Homeboy’s so proud, he’s finally got the video proof The night vision showed, she was only ducking the truth....A choke and a gag, she spit up and came back for more" Edit: I must add "degrade me, my purpose, bury me beneath the surface"

Can I take back what I said about Caleb being whiny on Cold Desert? I was too insensitive. I remember reading that he was really drunk when he made up those lyrics...and I started to think back to how emotional I used to get when I would get drunk - especially in my 20's! The good news is that as you get older you become less emotional - you become a happy, mellow drunk! So there's something to look forward to kids And I think "You told me you loved me, that I’d never die alone. Hand over your heart lets go home" is just beautiful.

"Hand over your heart, let's go home." ... and everything else in Cold Desert, basically. I love this too. I just imagine him and Lily having themselves a little moment all to themselves. Warms my heart. I like the "jesus don't love me, no one ever carried my load" one too because I know how it makes him feel. I like it that it's so sad to him and it's so important.
