All I can say is I'm sick of people saying "Bands should evolve. I don't want to hear the same thing..." Led Zeppelin had the same sound for 8 albums and 12 years. It was the sound on the first album that I loved and I'm glad it continued all the way through till their last album. Was every song the same? No. Was every song obviously unique to them as a band, and stick to their niche? Yes. If I want to hear a new sound from a band, I'll listen to ANOTHER band. As a musician, (well, as a human) I can say from experience that no one is really going to stay the same unless they try. (Like Simple Plan did.) I think you are entitled to that opinion, so no beef. But I don't know if I agree that Led Zeppelin didn't change their sound. They grew a lot. I have a feeling the new album is going to be fine though.

Firstly, the post that discribed me as immature or such like, I was merely using a Caleb quote form earlier in the thread. Secondly, I'm really enjoying this thread, I always enjoy inciting debate and then watching from the sidelines where it goes.

Ha, I actually realized that after I posted when I saw the article on another thread. And while you find your thread so entertaining, I find it oddly entertaining to see how gung ho people are to defend this band to the death. From the endless collection of pictures of band members, to the way people get angry if you make the slightest criticism of this band, Happy Alone always gives me something to shake my head about with a laugh! If any of the members came on here, they'd probably think it was funny too.

You like their sound, fine, alot of others just like them on a different level to you and while you may think that they are "defending the band to the death" have you ever thought that it's their own opinion that they are defending rather than it being the actual band?

Not only do they like the band's music but they like the band as a whole and find members attractive. Get it? No, I still don't think you do. Thats what some fans do. You must be a large fan of Almost Famous and have a picture in your signature, its the same thing. Otherwise take it out and stop being so damn hypocritical. You give us something to shake our heads at and laugh.

That's just the thing though. They are defending their opinion as if I'm attacking it, when, like you said, I'm just thinking differently! I'm on this thread offering criticism about the band and stating my opinion and all of a sudden people feel as if they need to defend themselves. Like I said before, it's okay to say negative things about KOL. They aren't universally acknowledged as perfect. And Viscera Eyes, how about stop getting so mad over nothing. Relax and don't take things so personally. I wasn't even replying to you.

I don't know if I should be the one relaxing here.
Anyways, let me get to my point.
Firstly, this is a fan forum .
fan 2 - (fân) n. An ardent devotee; an enthusiast. [Short for fanatic.]
Now, I do realize there are different levels of fans. Some like the band more than others, et cetera. However, on typical fan forums, the really large fans who are quite biased visit regularly. They just love the band, and respect them no matter what they do regardless of anything. That is why they come to fan forums.
Now, even though your opinion and everyone elses is clearly respectable and valid (as everyone is allowed to have their opinion), you can't expect to post negativity on a fan forum and expect everyone to agree with you, not take it harshly, and not flip out on you and not completely foil every word you said. Therefore, you shouldn't be wondering why everyone is flipping out on you, when the answer is right in front of your eyes. It is an opinion thread but you have to realize what you set yourself up for before you post sometimes.
If you think "thats bullshit" well thats just the way it is.
So with that said, you are on a fan forum where people worship the band. Thats why we are gathered here today. It is not a hate forum, it is specifically dedicated to the band for people who love them. That is why there are pictures of the band members, individual threads about them, people with pictures of them in their avatars (oh, wait just like you) or their signatures, etc. Did you expect a Kings Of Leon forum to post pictures and discuss scones and crumpets? I mean, I don't know.
Not saying the band is perfect what-so-ever, but people do regard them as so.

In other forums that are not made specifically for a set of fans it's good to have someone who can provide an opposite opinion to everyone else as it provides real debate, this however isn't that kind of forum. This is a place for everyone that are big fans of KOL to come together and enjoy the bands music, share news, media and generally talk about why they are big fans. This means that when someone suddenly starts talking negatively about the band you can't be surprised when it isn't taken well. Basically this is a forum for people who like the band, if you don't like the band then why even post here? LOL@ post above me pointing out the same thing.

Hahaha, the last couple pages of this have made me laugh so. I knew from the moment this thread was made it would turn into this (no offense to Pexbo, it was a nice idea originally ) For goodness sakes people calm down and accept everyone has an opinion! I'm so sick of this selling out nonsense. I don't usually answer to discussions on anything to do with selling out, but seriously, what is selling out anyways!? Everybody thinks something different...

One plain and simple thing: You can say negative things about a band you ARE A FAN OF. Otherwise everyone on this board would love absolutely everything about KOL and nothing negative would be said ever. As you can see through tons of threads other than this one, there are tons of fans that have said negative things -whether it's about a song or whatever. Yes, this is a FAN FORUM, and FANS are allowed to discuss the band critically. The end.

Karma pexbo, Karma viscera.
As I've said above, the point is, Ziggy, you posted your opinion on a public forum, whether its a fan forum or not, its a forum first and the definition of a forum (Tnx Viscera Eyes ;-)):
fo·rum Pronunciation[fawr-uhm, fohr-uhm]
an assembly, meeting place, television program, etc., for the discussion of questions of public interest.
So a discussion is what we are having, if you dont want to have a discussion dont post in a public forum!!

Did you read my last point. I understand it is a forum, and by your own definition that means we can discuss the band. It seems to be posters like YOU and viscera that act like as soon as I make a negative statement about the band, I am not following the rules of the forum. Yes, it is a fan forum, but fans can discuss the band critically. If YOU don't want me to discuss KOL in a negative light, then DON'T read my posts on this particular thread!

ziggy, viscera, pexbo...everybody! i just want to take a moment and say that i love these types of discussions. contrary to what some people on this forum think, i love the fact that, at the root of everything KOL related, we still focus on the music.
i can guarantee you that if any one of the guys from KOL or their management comes and reads this very healthy discussion, they'll be plenty happy. much more happy than if we were discussing their private lives.
so keep on! i love it all!

Oh my! Just read through this thread and it amazes me how distressed some people can get with other's personal opinions! I don't think there's a need to get so worked up over these things, but I suppose it just goes to show how loyal so many KOL fans are. And that can't be a bad thing. Also, talking about sell outs. Pink...That woman. Now I do like some of her songs and I've seen her live a couple of times but honestly...She's all womens rights, givin off about the LA 'it girl' types, etc and then she runs about in a bra and knickers in her live show and is naked in her video? What the hell? Anyway....back to the Kings .........

Haha, i wanted to join in with this debate but i'm not very good And i seemed to have missed it all, and there was a lot of talk about Led Zep and i don't listen to them so i can't relate... But what i will say is, we're all here to celebrate the Kings' music, no matter what you're favourite cd is, what your favourite song is or who your favourite member is. If people find they prefer the old stuff, then fair play to them. Personally i am itching to hear the new material, and from what i have heard so far i love it! As long as KOL keep me on my toes, and produce music from the heart, then i will be proud to call them my favourite band. Long live the Kings!

Well said, lauralimonada. It's great to have Happy Alone as a place to discuss the music and offer different opinions and criticism. Of course there are going to be disagreements, but like you said, at least we're shining importance on the music. Can't wait until OBTN -the discussions should get really interesting.

Exactaly, and nobody said you couldn't "discuss the band critically", but beware because people will argue with you so don't complain afterwards. That was exactaly my point. And who is to say that in other threads it doesn't cause situations like this? With every person who brings negativity to a fan forum it causes arguement. But if thats the sort of thing you're going for, by all means go ahead. Remember a good chunk of the people are biased, so don't act all suprised when people "defend the band to death", you know where you are.
