its hard to tell if its better or worst than any other song cus at the end of the day thats up to each person, for me on call is way better, and was a better single, quite different but still kol-sounding....Use Somebody would have been a better single and we have not even listened to the full track

probably i was misunderstood, sex on fire is their worst single, for me, because i consider its not good enough, not because its really bad or something

and its nothing against u2 or coldplay, actually i like a lot of their songs, but if i want to listen top epic/anthemic/stadium like songs, then i go and listen to them, not kol.

im not saying i want them to make a hundred albums that sound the same, and im not against them changing their sound but some bands change and still keep that 'something' that identifies them

u2 created some of the best tunes of the last 25 years..(with or without you, streets have no name etc)... and yes i know ther a bit over the top and bonos a complete twat but ther..a great band.

and coldplay are fkn good (barring X&Y) ...if u get passed the fact that these guys are mega popular ull realise there is a reason for it.

Didn't you hear? All the cool kids are hating on U2 and Coldplay these days. It's the 'in' thing to do.

And I kind of think that they should have done different singles for the States and the UK. "On Call" was a great single for the States but a bit samey for the UK. "Charmer" and "Fan" were great for the UK but I knew they wouldn't do so well Stateside.

In this same vein, I think "Sex On Fire" is a great single but I fear it wont do well in the States. On the other hand, "Crawl" is more accessible and might do better.

Not that they need to do well in the US, I just think they might have a better chance this way. Though "Sex On Fire" is awesome and I would prefer they break with that song rather than "Crawl".

Well, we've only heard three songs from the album so far. It might be a bit soon to say they don't still have that "something".

This song is pretty damn good.
Is there even anyone else like this band?
Whether they remind me of bands like the Killers or not, they still write music that tends to strum my heart strings.
And the imagery is so strong.

the song is ok, i think what saves it is Matt's guitar. It's nothing great. none of the songs released so far are amazing which i was bracing myself ever since BOTT, but i never actually thought the day would come.

Personally I dig it. It's groovy.
U2 or Coldplay are never gonna make any songs about sex on fire or ever rock as hard as this track does. The only real similarity I hear to those bands is the bigness of the sound. Which doesn't really phase me.
And does the guitar at the very start remind anyone else of something off "In Rainbows" by Radiohead or is it just me?

i think (even though you did a great job MrsN) the quality kinda makes it hard for me to make an opinion of the song. i mean its good but i think i need some time to let it grow on me, when i heard BOTT for the first time i felt like crying because i didn't think it was AMAZING but then i just listened to it again and again and started out picking out things i thought were great that i didn't notice before. anyhoo now im rambling, but im just gonna give it some time

Right, since we're being honest about things:

This is a MESSAGE BOARD. People are here to discuss things and have an opinion on things. You may not agree to everything you read, I don't agree with a lot I read on here but I dont go about giving negative karma for it cos opinions are what message boards exist for.

I've been a KOL fan since the first album and I love Sex on Fire (the song, haven't tried the activity yet). It doesn't sound like The Killers and it doesn't sound like The Strokes.

HERES MY OPINION - Who gives a shit whether it sounds like YAYM or ASH. If you like them albums so much - listen to them. The sound of the band was always going to change so lets not kid ourselves.

Crawl is the worst of the new songs we've heard. My opinion again.

Opinion III - Use Somebody sounds NOTHING like Coldplay.

I know a lot of people probably won't agree with my opinions but thats life in general isn't it.

i personally think manhattan and use somebody are the 2 best new songs and sex on fire i have only listened to once so i cant judge but it was more instant then when i heard on call and i fell in love with that after a few listens,

People on here must Remember U2 have been the Best and Most important Rock band of the past 20 years or so! There first 3 albums were pure raw rockers just like KOL first 2 albums they then delevoped the more epic sound on Joshua Tree and Actung Baby (which have both gone on to be 2 of the best albums of all time)

The 4 songs i have heard so far are F***ing amazing and this album will be KOL biggest seller for sure and will get more radio airplay than the other 3 albums put together.

Let all face it KOL are now mainstream and i for one love it! bring on the epic rock songs all day! Let hope they delvelop into the next U2!

Sex on Fire took me (and a few others I think) a couple of listens. I thought it was ok on first listen but have had it on repeat today and love it.

I was the same with On Call. I thought "what the hell is this compared to the rest of what they've done?!" but after a short while I loved it too.

Download one the files that the kind people have ripped and uploaded and see if you like it more after a couple more listens like I did
