but - i have to say, i have been going to their shows for the past 4 years, and i have barely had 2 shitty words say about them - however, is anybody with me on the dramatic change in their live shows.
let's take a nostalgic moment and remember the days of the killer, sweaty & ass-thrusting KOL on stage, for example - the trani performance @ bonnaroo circa. 2004
compared to the, don't get me wrong - still killer & heart racing shows they play today - they have lost, if only some - stage presence, chemistry and just pure on-stage beauty
it's okay to not agree i'm just being honest & looking for an honest opinion
maybe with this new album due, and the tour coming up, they'll explode back into 2005/6 KOL even if they don't, i will still die when i hear that 'oh baby' bang on the drum, that sex-on-string guitar lick, that heart-stopping bass and that raspy, nasty, classy voice
i would like to end this enquiry by saying - the music still makes me shake to the core, kings of leon still shake me to my very core - just, something on stage isn't quite what it used to be.

I'm pretty sure they were off their tits on various drugs during Trani at Bonnaroo '04. I prefer them sober.

thats one of the best expressions "off their tits" i dunno i like both. the crazy times, and the class 'just the music' times of late plus their light shows are amazing nowadays.

Yeah i was praying they'd go absolutely crazy during Trani at Oxegen. Even though they did go a bit mad with Caleb on his knees and Jared's mad headbanging it was nothing compared to that Bonnaroo video where Jared goes mental. Still i can't complain about their live shows. They're still amazing and sound class live so that's what counts. And i agree with Scarlett, i'm glad they're not doing the drugs nowadays.

I do agree with you to a certain extent, i love the boys and musically live you can not fault them they are very tight as a band, but they have lost some of that on stage mentalness of their old shows, even last year at the Hammersmith Apollo Caleb was going crazy but i have just not seen much of it recently, i think the only one that still has it is Matty he goes all out. I saw them at T in the Park and thought they were great but when i watched it back on the TV it looked as though they were just going through the motions, people may dissagree but its just what i thought. I will always think they are amazing but it would be nice to get some of that old school KOL crazyness back

Yeah thats true, at T in the Park he was pretty mellow by normal standards though mind you i have to admit bands can have off days, im betting they go mental with their own shows in December!

Wouldn't know what their gigs have been like in recent years but during 03-04 they were fucking bonkers!! I guess looking back they had a lot to get off their chests, though the worst gig from a personal standpoint was in london it just didn't look too pretty up there. So even if they've smoothed over some of the razor sharp edges of their early gigs, i'd prefer to have them healthy enough so that they can still play until their grey years - if they wish to.
DennisRodman is sexy.

wow...well, i'm not sure, with me being so late to this kings of leon mayhem (ahem, only about a year of being a fan)
but i gotta say, i can see the difference. i don't feel as though its fair for me to say too much, simply b/c i haven't been a diehard fan since the beginning. so i will make this as brief as possible.
i do agree no drugs = good. i'm not down with all that shit. sorry. but if that's what it took for a good show and good music...then??
but i don't think that's the case...they are a good band. and i think their live shows (granted i've only been to 2...both 2007) are insane! in more ways than one...
i think this is weird for me too, b/c this is the first time i've ever anticipated an album from them...so i'm just kind of sitting here with this knot in my stomach. and this weird feeling...
i dunno...maybe it means something or maybe its nothing more than a gas!
i love the sound from the earlier performances, but i sure don't like to see them (way too skinny & strung out). but i just really hope the next time i see them...they aren't just going thru the motions. b/c that's sad too.
did i just make any sense?? lol its late...hope no one gets mad at me for this one....

i think they've been touring for so long that they're most likely over it. that schedule of theirs is very hectic - they hardly ever break. it must get boring over time...well, when you play that amount of shows in such a short period of time..the repetitiveness has probably killed their..rock n roll spirits, or something

i dont like their live showS because on the tour, going to 1 live show is amazing... going to 2 is repetitive.... i just got back from 2 straight Dave Matthews Band shows and he repeated a total of 3 songs... last tour i went to 2 kings shows, and i got the EXACT same setlist... just seems like it would get so boring to be them.. same thing every night.

I've only seen them twice live, they were better when I saw them at Oxegen this year because I think they were insulted by the fact they weren't headlining last year (not even close!), but I think them must be really bored too. They've been touring since like last march or april to premote BotT and now they're going to have to do it all again. All in all I think they're just fed up & shouldn't have put out an album so close to their last one. I just hope they don't give up altogether because its been so difficult recently.

lemme put it in perspective for you guys
KoL = the type of band who goes on stage and plays the songs justtt like the way they're on the cd. [ im honestly not dissing here, im just stating a fact ]
some other bands = interaction w/ the audience, change the songs up a little bit ..drum solos, etc [e.g. Foo Fighters..although their past 2 albums are SHITE! now that was an opinion lol, although im a HUGEEE ff fan!]
of course a band is gonna get sick of playing songs when they get on stage and replicate it. that being say, i went to two KOL concerts (1 week apart from each show) and i enjoyed em. im not complaining.. im just attributing their change to a factor
