Well depending on how long the album is, we could possibly have already heard 1/4 of it. What are you overall thoughts? My opinion: Crawl is alright (it's grown on me), I LOVE Manhattan (fell in love when I first heard it), and I really don't like Use Somebody. I've heard songs like Use Somebody a million times and it's nothing like the KOL sound that I love. Collectively, all the songs are kind of downers and I'm looking forward to the other songs on the album being a bit more fun/upbeat. I know a lot of people love that KOL evolves with each album, and I do too, but must they evolve into the cliche "time for serious songs" phase? Aha is my favorite album, and why they may not have political songs, or anthems, or stadium songs, I feel it's quintessential KOL and what I love about them. I'm not trying to be too negative, because I AM really excited that a new KOL album is coming out, but after hearing Use Somebody I instantly thought "oh no... they're going THIS route!" This route meaning generic, commercial, and lacking that unique KOL style. I'm REALLY hoping that the other songs on the album make me change my mind. EDIT- Okay, I've given Use Somebody several more listens, and while I was taken back at first, it has REALLY grown on me. The verse is just great. I'm still not big on the chorus, but I'm over my disappointment with it. I think I actually like it better than Crawl now.

I'm assuming he means "get the fuck out"? Kinda harsh, so please correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm assuming he means "get the fuck out"? Kinda harsh, so please correct me if I'm wrong. That's what he meant. Not quite sure why he wrote that though. I wasn't aware that my post was rude or mean. I just thought it was my honest opinion! EDIT- lovelyyyyhead, nice avatar. I saw them last night!! They were great.

im a little concerned but not overly at the moment
crawl i like..but there are a few things about it that bug me.. and its mostly got to do with matt's guitar..which i feel...maybe isnt as ballsy as the rest of the song.
manhattan...i do like...id love to hear the studio version tho
and with use somebody... i did feel straight away that it seemed a little...too radio friendly haha... but then again..it has been stuck in my head all day.. and i havent heard the entire song yet.. so i cant really judge just yet

I'm loving all of the songs so far. I don't want them to go back to any particular sound, because they've already done those songs. I have no doubt there will be some kick-ass rockers on the new album - if KOL know how to do anything right, they know how to make a varied album, and the new songs we've heard prove that. I think it's about time they wrote a really solid ballad (like Use Somebody) and as I expected, they knocked it right out of the park.

i totally agree with facepollution. they'll never put out a bad record it seems... even if they decided to do a folk record i'd be an awesome one

Itd true i dont think they will ever make a "bad record" but you have to admit its a really different sound, and yeah its good there evolving but i dont want them to lose that special...thing ? ....that made me love them in the first place. I dont really like crawl, it is too stadium (hate to say it U2) kinda rock. Manhattan i think is great and Use Somebody sounds awesome too. I just think if you go down the stadium rock route then the songs end up sounding kinda the same. And MOSTLY im missing the Caleb scream his voice is getting cleaner But im always gonna support them and love them cuz they really are great guys.

Or a "really solid ballad." Of course, I haven't heard the entire song so I can't make a final judgement, but what I HAVE heard sounded like just another sappy ballad that I've heard a million times before by tons of bands that I don't care about. I don't want KOL to lose their uniqueness, no matter what direction they decide to go musically. That's my favorite thing about them. I can't hear another band like them. The ONLY thing that is unique about Use Somebody (to me) is that I know it is Caleb Followill singing.

It's an evolution for them as a band, they're showing that they can turn their hands to whatever they like, and I still think it retains the KOL edge, not least because of Caleb's incredible vocals. I would be interested to know what songs you think it sounds like? Obviously I'm not going to try and convince you, all I can say is that it clicks with me.

Someone else nailed it on the other thread. It sounds like Coldplay and U2. Two bands of which I hate.
I've listened to it a bit more and I have to admit, I like the verse. It's the chorus that I can't stand.
And I don't see how it is a progression for them as a band, if they are moving from a unique sound to a sound that has been heard before by other bands.

I would see your point if it wasn't better than those bands you mentioned, but in my opinion it is. Either way, like I said I'm not going to try and convince you - I can imagine it would suck if I didn't like one of the new songs, fortunately they've all been winners for me

Fair enough. And besides... it's just one song. For all I know I could fall in love with every other song on the album. But if Sex on Fire turns out to be a sappy ballad...

I know what you mean, we cant really make any major opinions until we hear the finished product, it might fit in really well with the album, who knows? Im liking Manhattan and Crawl but i do have question mark over the new one but i will reserve judgement until i hear the whole album. As i said in the other thread, i love there slow numbers but i dont want to listen to a full album of them

so many threads are popping up about the new songs and it's kinda annoying to have to sort through all of them but on the bright side, it's nice to see people discussing the music rather than getting ourselves in trouble by dissing the girlfriends or posting private pictures.
just wanted to comment on that and give HA a big pat on the back....even those who have come on here just to say they hate the new stuff. every opinion is respected...
