so many threads are popping up about the new songs and it's kinda annoying to have to sort through all of them but on the bright side, it's nice to see people discussing the music rather than getting ourselves in trouble by dissing the girlfriends or posting private pictures. just wanted to comment on that and give HA a big pat on the back....even those who have come on here just to say they hate the new stuff. every opinion is respected... karma for that you make a good point

I thought I'd make a thread discussing ALL three of the songs that are available to us. I don't see any other threads doing that. I also don't see myself saying I "hate the new stuff" -rather that I don't like "Use Somebody." AND BACK TO THE MUSIC -I've listened to Use Somebody several more times since making this thread. It has definitely grown on me and I find myself singing it. I still don't care for the way the chorus sounds so Coldplay-esque, but I'm just going to suck it up and wait to see what the rest of the album has to offer. They have offered us three songs that are not only different from what they have done in the past, but different from one another. THAT makes me extremely excited about the new album. But based on the three songs, I do hope they lighten up with the others

I'm hoping for Sex on Fire to sound similar to the verses in My Third House...
But that's going by the song's name alone. I just hope it's something like that ^.^

We've heard 3 songs and they're nothing like each other. Just because Use Somebody is a "sappy ballad" doesn't mean they're going down that route. Just look at Because of The Times. There's a lot of variety on there.

I love all the new songs

I love all the new songs I have, having given Use Somebody several more listens. I like the song, but I'm still gonna stand by the fact that I miss their old sound, and I don't like the change that I've observed based on these 3 songs. I'll hold out my final judgement when I hear the entire album.

Hello there,
So far, as duely and properly noted by my fellow Happ'loners, the "more like 1/3 than 1/4" of OBTN we have heard still I think is very very good and importantly, progressive. Please forgive my "flip-flopping on and offline" over the last few days, but am I correct in surmising that "Use Somebody" was the 3rd new song that was playing on the OBTN Home Movie trailer that has been passed around the viral networks? Anyway, I expect great things from the boys, and I expect that "Sex On Fire" will the snottiest new song from them yet! Cheerios!
Sincerely, ~JamiroFan2000~

I can't make my mind up yet. Like everyone says, Manhattan is great (at least live), and same thing with crawl, although the dowload on monday I think is not as good as the low quality phone videos on YouTube. But Use Somebody is a sappy song. And I'm hoping that it gets better hearing the whole thing. I didn't like Arizona on the first listen, but now its one of my favourite KOL songs.
Definately can't wait to hear-no, just to hold the new album though.

didnt we say all this last year when BOTT was on the way? I wasn't on this board last year, but then again that doesn't matter because I didn't even know who KOL WAS until like a week before BOTT came out (and I live in the US). My first introduction to them was On Call, and then I started listening to all the older music. Even then, I can note the obvious change in direction from the older music to BOTT and now what we've heard with OBTN. Aha Shake Heartbreak is my favorite album.

variety is good, especially with this band. at first i remember not liking too much from bott... except for a few songs and that album really grew on me, i already love manhatten and the other two from what i heard are cool songs... BUT remember, i dont think i would have liked songs like knocked or arizona as much unless i heard it through the whole album... so i dont wanna make any assumtions till i hear every track all the way through.
sex on fire does seem exciting though...

Dunno if this has been said before cause i havn't bothered to read most of this thread, no dis-respect intended but the thing that puts me off more than anything about that home video is the combination of Use Somebody and the footage. It strikes me as kinda Americany happy families. Like, i like the song and the footage is fun but together is just doesn't seem to really sit well with me. It struck me that the new album comes out in September, so does the American elections, Crawl is their 'political song' oh hey let's get in America's good books and ooh look he's a home video with a very likeable song about feeling lonely and all that american bullshit they love. bit like dido. ok i'm just gonna get burned at the stake for being a witch. i like the song and the footage but together no no nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!! i'll just blame rca. fucking partridge family. it's getting toasty you heathen!

I have no fucking clue what you're going on about here but the US elections are in November, not September. EDIT: I think maybe I should clarify. It seems like you're trying to say something about the timing of the "Crawl" download and the album coinciding with the US elections. I think this is off the mark. I could see your point if "Crawl" was first single but it's not. It was a free download, something that mainly people who are already fans would be interested in. And it's not a single therefore it's not going to get airplay. So I fail to see how "Crawl" was meant to ingratiate the band with Americans. In fact, I think they choose not to release "Crawl" as the first single specifically because of its political nature. They're just not the type of band to try and make a name for themselves off something other than their music. As far as your problems with the home video and the "happy American bullshit" comment, I honestly don't know what the hell you're talking about and I think I might not want to.

But I see you'd rather get defensive than actually explain what you meant. And I found your comments about Americans insulting, hence the eye-rolling smiley.

I'm reserving final judgement til I hear the album but I am loving everything I've heard so far. I think its inevitable that a band will change their sound as they grow up. I dont think it means they're selling out. I agree that Calebs voice is cleaning up a bit and I love the old rough and ready of it but it'd b great to hear the quality of his voice minus screaming etc too!!!
