^^Good call ticboo! was listening to ASH today and while i really really really miss the clipped mumbled raw delivery, he almost doesn't sound like himself after seeing them live and listening to him really opening up on OBTN and BOTT. Don't know if that makes any sense to anyone but its like he's not afraid now to sound like himself

Yeah, it's those inhibitions of his - I am glad he's losing them and letting his voice out. I know I love all the mumbling and spitting he used to do but his voice now is amazing. (wish I could think of more superlatives ) It must feel really good to let rip and really use your voice and your lungs, rather than keeping it strangled and shut in a box, so to speak. I'm looking forward to the day when I can hear him live.

I think Caleb's voice is my least favorite thing about them but i dont HATE it.i totally prefer his new style of singing though. I think it sounds best in Sex On Fire where he sings "Yooooouuuu" and it goes up high then down low at the end! I also love his voice on the live version of Molly's Chambers from the Hammersmith show! It sounds so cool,i can't explain why but its so cool sounding in that song!

I think Caleb's voice is my least favorite thing about them but i dont HATE it. I think you must be the only person who's least favourite thing is Caleb's voice haha . I love his voice, especially in California Waiting and Spiral Staircase I definitley prefer the way he sang on the first two albums tbh

The vocals are growing on me though. But i think he is gorgeous enough to make up for it

I love his voice because its so distinctive, sometimes when he sings its really haunting too.. because of how amazing he sounds. The start of Black Thumbnail always gets me

Caleb's singing is so unique I couldn't possibly pick out a favourite vocal performance from him. They are all greatness.

I cant pinpoint what it is that so brilliant about Calebs voice, it was definately the first thing that caught my attention about KOL, second was the lyrical genius!! I love the rawness of it sometimes cause sometimes things are shit and you just need some dirty, throaty, raw music and then sometimes things are great and you just need more of the same!!! OBTN then brings a whole new dimension, one which I like a hell of a lot.

^ Agree his voice is just so versatile. You can get the really raw gritty ballsy rock/screaming from him or you can get the soft mellow southern sooting singing from him and either way it's fucking brilliant. When I first heard them I didn't know what to think of them because his voice was so different but then the more I listened the more I just went "holy shit, that guys voice is amazing!"
I actually JUST got finished listening to "Frontier City" and to be honest when I first heard that song I absolutely hated it. It was one of the few songs that on my iTunes had only been listened to once from them. But now I'm in love it because Caleb's voice is just fantastic on it!

I dont really understand people who say that he cant sing??? I always look to see if these people have ears, and when I see that they do I can only surmise that they have no taste!!!

I think it's a thing of whether people can become accustomed to his voice or not. It's just so different that I think it can either help or hurt him, especially on their earlier albums. I will never forget the first time I heard Kings. I liked them but I just kept thinking Caleb's voice was so crazy that I wasn't sure if it was for me or not. Thankfully my idiot sensors fell and I realized he had a fantastic voice! lol
I expected him to look like Nathan during Aha Shake era though. When my friends and I decided to buy Aha Shake (we had only heard some of the songs off that one due to a mixed CD) we all looked at the pictures in the booklet and assumed Nathan was the lead singer because the rest didn't look capable of having that voice lol.

Haha that's definitely true! Although when I finally saw the way he looked when I got YAYM, I just went "ahh ok I can see that guy being the singer now!"

I love his voice, especially in California Waiting and Spiral Staircase I definitley prefer the way he sang on the first two albums tbh Ahh, I am loving on both of those songs right now! I just got a Holy Roller Novicane ep and I love comparing the two versions of California Waiting. Like in one, he's singing like an angel and pronouncing everything right, in the other he's rocking out, mumbling and screaming. Spiral Staircase is one I used to skip, but now it's really growing on me. His voice is like sexy sandpaper...does that even make sense?? Dunno if I have a right to be nostalgic, since I'm relatively new, but I wonder if he can sing it like that now. Is that Caleb gone forever? (Also, does anyone know what the hell they're saying all drunkenly at the end of Spiral? I know what I think they're saying, but if I told you guys you'd laugh your asses off at me.)

I think it all fits, if they were making the same sort of music as YAYM and ASH then his OBTN styleeee voice would NOT go...and vice versa...some interviewer (and this was the ONLY intelligent thing she said the whole way through) commented that every song on OBTN sounds like some sort of cathartic emotional release... I think that's what it is with him, whether he sings it a la YAYM or a la OBTN, you believe every word and he takes you with him. It's an incredibly rare quality these days, and as a result the man gives me shivers without even looking at him Manhattan. That's the only thing left to say - the boy kills me every time with that one. But yeah, then there's Wasted Time..."justa what I saaawwwww..." And Day Old Blues...."..ba-loo-hooooos". Just kills me.
