I looooove the bass in Arizona...espesh when Matt is playing his solo part the bass then is actually really beautiful. Then you have the rawness in McFearless ~ which i looove too.
Spiral Staircase, My Party and Charmer are all awesome Jared bass songs as well.

I completely agree! It's Jared's bass that made me really listen to bass in every other song i here. I think it's cos his lines are always so prominent and good that i always listen out for the bass in any song i here now. It's never as good as Jared's though! And also agree with you Ben. His bass is usually pretty simple but as they say- less is more! And he proves he's brilliant at the difficult stuff too. Arizona is one of my favourites for his bass right now. Definitely no one out today is as great as Jared. I'd have to list him with some of the greats. I'd say my favorite bass line right now Manhattan. First thing I noticed (and loved) about the song. Same here. Every time i listen to Manhattan i'm waiting for that bass to kick in. Class...

He's the best for me. After learning the majority of KOL songs on bass I find a lot of other band's bass lines to be horribly boring.
Jared always mixes it up, lobbing in variations here and there, it's awesome. I don't think I'd be half the player I am today (not saying I'm great, 'cause I'm not) if I hadn't listened to him.
At the moment my favourite song for bass has to be Slow Night, So Long. If it comes on on shuffle I'll run over to get my bass to play along to it, every time!

i'm loving the sex on fire and fans (esp Fans) bassline!! i'd say more the rythym sect' of sex on fire, it reminds me of running far far away very very quickly

Use Somebody, Notion and I Want You. His bass stnads out for me on these tracks. It's so simple in I Want You(the way everything is) but it all sounds so great together. Of course Crawl is just unbelievably class but i knew that ages ago so i wan't mentioning it. But now i have cos well it's just so freakin amazing.

Jared is the bass player of our time is a huge stretch. He's a decent player like everyone in the band but Nathan is by far the best musician. He doesn't play the same drum beat in every song. Jared's basslines are good but way too repetitive. It;s a very noobish remark to say bassplayer of our time. That my friend would go to Victor Wooten. Jared can't isn't even in the same league as Jeff Ament(PEARL JAM).

BUT jared's playing was at its best on this album- it was the highlight for me. in use somebody during the middle chorus he just comes out of nowhere; the first time i heard it i was like "WHAT was THAT??" and had to rewind it several times. he may be the most underrated bassist of our time- mostly because he's so young. but hey, if he's this good this young, who knows how good he'll be in the future. jared is still the hottest, though. and only a couple years older than me, soo i guess that means we can date and stuff. haha ahh wow...

He may not be as good as some bassists in regards to doing really complicated stuff but sometimes less is more and i just think his bass is always brilliant. Aleways noticable in the songs and catchy and then he can do some great riffs too. His bass holds up a lot of their songs.

More excellent work from the boy wonder on OBTN. Always impressed. Bass isn't as tricky as lead guitar or drums ('specially like Nate plays them) but a song would have no soul without a bass.
