I would certainly like to show some appreciation for Nathan's drumming. I was a drummer in a band before he was even born, (or thereabouts) but I can tell you one thing, his drumming is some of the best ever. Insistent, undeniable and profound. Favourite: On Call. the double snare beat in that song physically woke me up from a psychic slumber I'd been in for about seven years, during which time I'd lost the love affair with music I'd enjoyed the whole of the rest of my life. It kick-started a renaissance in every part of my life, particularly reactivating a thirst for new music. Why? Because I could feel in my bones just how good it would be to play that drum line. It must feel damn good. (I don't have a kit any more so I don't know but I can imagine.) So, I feel I have a lot to thank him for. Thanks, Nathan, for that shit-hot drumming on that track and on every other fantastic piece of drumming on all the other tracks I had to discover in a thoroughly rewarding retrograde action. And for bloody waking me up! (In case anyone was wondering, it wasn't a famous band I was in, we only ever played a handful of gigs, we just used to rehearse exhaustively and record our songs on cassette. We were happy with it.)

COOL PIC OF NATHANS DRUM KIT It's a fascinating pic. He has two snares, one each side of the high hat. That's what it looks like. I wonder which one he uses as the main one? I don't think I would know what to do with two snares. I find it annoying that there is so little coverage of what he's actually doing on the drums, it's always head & shoulders shots you get on TV, and they never seem to last longer than a couple of beats anyway.

Okay what is going on? 13 days without some appreciation of the God of drumming's drumming. Crikey.
Following the new album i had to come back here and just say once again that Nathan is a f**king genius. Be Somebody (as i've said at length elsewhere) is immense....it is an amazing song (as is Closer. And the whole album but those inpartic) and the drumming on Be Somebody is just......i've run out of adjectives that describe greatly enough how i feel. It makes me smile.
I nearly bruised my hands on the steering wheel while listening to it in my car today.
He's incredible. Juuuust incredible......

Okay, I'll bring this over from another music discussion site, (this is one where the posters are mostly in their forties) and there was a thread where they were comparing KoL to Drive by Truckers.
Someone made the comment: "Kings of Leon do have the most exciting rhythm section in rock today."
(And it wasn't me.)

I cannot get over how fantastic Be Somebody is. Everything about it. But The drumming *swoon* and the drum solo at the end. Phe-nom-enal.
Also - can we show some appreciation for the backing vocals the man provides. I am particularly enjoying them on Beneath the Surface at the moment.

oh jees i'm sure i am being 100% dense and they're already on here but please, i need to hear those obtn extras. please be a darling and be my signpost once again drinkinthepark? i'm karmaring you already just for reading this hahaa and also for giving credit where it's due to his backing vocals, dear jesus i have prayed so many times this evening, but keep it coming. i still havn't fecking sat down and listened and i so used to goddamn LOVE doing that. they're sound has just so created a monster and eaten itself and spat out something that you can no longer single out one thing over the other. he's a goddamn genius for, fuck it i'll say it, taking it there or following at least, i mean dear god if nothing else listening from first to previous album how much has that guys talent just grown and matured and become something you can't listen to with simple ears no longer, i love my simple ears, i love the raw that's it and gone but jesus from loving that to what it is now i reckon i owe it my ears to actually do what i said and still mean to do and sit down and actually focus. it's like so wonderful when you do that.
