Firstly how to post a pic (without the ifs and buts) Press this button you will get this, Now select your image, for it to work it needs to be a .jpg/.jpeg, .gif, .bmp* or .png* and replace URL with the address. Giving you something like.
* Avoid if possible as they both have problems.

You may be wondering why I posted the same pick 4 times, but there was a reason. Even though they all look the same they're in 4 different formats. (If you can't see all 4 your browser is very elderly and needs updateing) Jpg's/Jpegs are great all round image files being very small and quick files. the killer sheep one is only 7Kb which is tiny. They were develepoped by photographers for speed and small size. They're not the best format for scans of text or sketches though as the compression starts to show up. Gifs are cool they are slightly bigger in disk size , but they are great for animation and can be useful when you have a limited colour pallete all the smillies on here are gifs Bitmaps (.bmp) should be avoided like the plague they are huge files and should be extinct by now. (If they wern't used in Windows they would be) the Killer sheep above is 66Kb almost 10 times bigger than the .jpg meaning they open slowly and will very often be constrained in size if uploaded to photobucket. .Png's are weird creatures and you'll very rarely find them they were developed as an ultimate format but Bill Gates didn't like them so they're not widely used. They were almost a web designers dream alowing animation and transparency in a much neater form than the .gif, unfortunately Macromedia brought out Flash which killed the .png concept.

You can use one of the avatars on here, link to one from anywhere of the net, or make your own and link from photobucket. The avatars on here are displayed at 100x100 pixles at the most thats this big. You can link to larger images but they will load slowly on other peoples machines and distort by being resized. Jpgs of gifs are really the only format you should consider. jpgs for still images and gifs for animations Beware it is all to easy to post an avatar that you can see but no-one else can. If it is on a site that blocks hotlinking you'll see your avatar everyone else will see nothing unless they've been to that site.

Every image you look at on the internet is stored on your computer for next time, so the page opens quickly. They are stored in the web cache and deleted after a certain time or when the Cache gets full. Its a bit the cisstern on a toilet constently re-filling to make for quicker flushing. Your Avatar and everyones avatar on the board is stored here.
If the site you linked from goes down, you can see it from your web cache, if the site you linked to bans hotlinking you can still see it from your web cache.
There a few ways to make sure. Look at the site on your computer but using an alternative browser such as Firefox, Netscape or Opera. Fire fox is great for checking this as you can delete the web cache easily at any point to make sure your images are loading correctly.

Bitmaps are bad really bad, they would be in my top ten reasons why things don't work if I had one (Must start one). But trying to stay focus the Evils of Bitmaps. - They are hugefiles (up to 10x bigger than jpegs
- They are slow to load as each individual pixel has to be drawn
- They are Not fully cross platform compatible(non windows users may struggle)
- They are not viewable by certain older browsers (though I can't find a list anywhere)
- Photobucket automatically resizes them causeing a great deal of hassle.
Ok so why should you care? Chances are if you can see anything in here you wont.

I don't like Bitmaps, I don't like, I don't like I don't like bitmaps, I'm gonna shoo-oo-ooo-ooo-ooo-oot the whole format down. Ok Bitmaps are the number one pink robot to be battled today. If you use photobucket and you submit an image larger than it will be re-sized to the size of a postage stamp. If you were to use the jpg format you could post substantially bigger imagesits difficult to post exactly how big you could get with a jpeg. but as a guideline of the size not the quality. An image such as could be posted from photobucket at least and as I say this is only a guide to size not quality and i crashed my computer trying to calculate this)

So how to convert .bmps to .jpgs. Regardless of what you use for editing your pictures if your a windows user you should have microsoft paint. This program is really easy to use (anyone who needs help finding it on their system give me a heads-up.)
In paint go to save as and select in the save type box JPEG File Interchange Format (*.jpg,*,jpeg) and your image will not be re-sized in photobucket.

im sorry everyone i didnt know that pic of me would be that big *aaaaaaaaahhhhhhh* First off you look lovely no need for all that appologiseing. Secondly two tips and i shall use u as a demo. firstly to see how a post looks before posting you can use the Preview button next to the post button Secondly how to make a picture bigger or smaller in a post. If appleshaker wanted to post the same picture but smaller she could use this code. What i did was half the number of pixels used in the image (you can find this for any image by right clicking and looking at properties. Equally this can be used to increase image size (but not quality) WARNING THE NEXT POST (not posted by me) CONTAINS A SCARY IMAGE REALLY YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED CLICK HERE to bypass > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
