It's still pretty good, just a little different....that's what they went for. It got to number 1, unlike their previous albums so.... Also, couldn't you have just posted it in the thread you already made, if at all... Somebody locked my original thread. And it wasnt me. Maybe there is a 12 page limit?

ok guys...wen i first listened to KOL's BOTT i literally felt like CRYING...i thought the world was going to end and that rock n roll was dying...
NOW
after listening to it heaps of times i really really like it...and u know wat? its probably not my absolute fave KOL album, but its a pretty awesome record...i mean, its EXTREMELY different, and like ive said before, this album does not make me wanna dance, as opposed to the other two records...however, ive heard nathan say a million times, that they tried to be different as opposed to creating another Y&YM or ASH...even tho BOTT isnt as 'southern' and dancey (i love the hole southern thing, coz i come from australia, and its different u know?) its still a good record...however, i really hope their next album isnt EVEN MORE DIFFERENT! coz then i would die...if u listen closely tho, it is a bit similar to their orher stuff in some ways, but not too similar that its boring...i reckon they have nailed finding the perfect balance...its not too similar (which prevents it from being boring), yet its different (and so its original and unique) ...
at the end of the day i reckon critics or maybe even fans would get the shits if KOL just kept creating music similar to the music on the first two records....a while ago i use to LOVE rap music, but after a few years, i got over it...it all became sex this and money that....so congrats to KOL! (but plssss dont make the next cd really really different! --> might end up sounding like a hole new band and we dont want that!)
ps...i LOVE ARIZONA... sickest song on the record i say!~

It's the only KOL album that has made into the top 20 albums here in Australia, I think it is AWESOME!!! And if you don't like it you aren't a true KOL fan in my eyes! Fuck they are awesome!

its a brilliant album nuff said you dont like it you dont listen then go buy a britney spears cd At least she consistently makes shitty records. Instead of making two fantastic records and then suddenly putting out the musical equivalent of a cat turd. postscript; just for the record what you said in your message was fairly lame but i cant sleep....

I think you are right, i just feel like ASH was different enough from YAYM and I feel like they could have made BOTT still different but better, ya know?

Well that's your opinion which obviously doesn't really count for much on this forum judging from your karma... Its actually a great album. The kings have taken it to the next level creating a different sound from Aha Shake Heartbreak and Youth and Young Manhood. They have taken the same sound and musical ability and matured it rather than pipe out a clone of ASH and YAYMH which many bands do but KoL took a different path and succeded.

you see, thats fine.the cd was new, and fresh. (and wildy popular) she has a good voice, and i havent listened to her cd, but im sure its pretty good. and im sure millions of people know the words to all of those songs. the only reason i didnt listen to it is because thats not my style of music. dont prove yourself by going by what some other idiot said. because not only is that a bad comparison, but in fairness (im too lazy to look this up) but didnt that brittany spears cd win a bunch of awards. and im guesing it would be on the top of some of the charts, considering how huge she was.

No its sucess full stop. You have a pretty warped view of success if you think that an album that has wowed critics and fans alike and reached number 1 in the charts a failure...

This is a different album! That can only be a brave, great thing in a time where the charts are splattered with second, third albums from my favourite bands which stick to the old formulas and offer nowt much new! Is it my favourite album? No not right now - I'm back to listening to YAYM right now........ but last week it was....... and the week before that, and when it came out, i was listening to ASH. 3 pretty different albums, and all great, all different!! Let's not condemn for picking out favourites, but at least it should be recognised that they are an awesome band who have a bit of guts for releasing something different!
Wow - ranting!!!

I just look at the actual music they've made. Are Caleb's lyrics more coherent, more purposeful, and more skilled than the previous albums? Yep. Is he a better singer than on the previous albums? Oh yeah. Are Nathan's drums even more interesting and unique than they've been on the previous albums? Yeah. Has Mathew branched out as far as his guitar playing is concerned, trying different styles and techniques to good effect? Yeah. Is Jared's bass work more intricate and skilled than it was on the previous albums? Without a doubt. Did the whole band contribute to this album equally, rather than it being a primarily Caleb-driven piece? According to the band, yeah. Based purely on the mechanics and skill of it, I'd say BOTT surpasses the previous two albums. And looking at the actual songs, I think they back me up. As all the reviewers say, who has the balls to make a 7 minute opener song like Knocked Up these days? Who has the balls to have the screaming that Caleb does in Charmer? How many bands can make a song as honest and beautiful as Arizona? Plus, based on the writing and performance, I think McFearless is the best song they've released to date. And the lines, "those rainy days, they ain't so bad when you're the king, the king they want to see"...it's probably the cleverest bit Caleb's ever written. It's not the first time I've seen it happen. Hell, it's happened to me. It's still always a little sad to see a fan get frustrated and accuse a band of slipping in quality when they realize that a band has moved on without them. Trust me dude, and I know it breaks your heart a bit 'cause it's happened to me, but the band isn't making worse music. They just don't have anything to say to you anymore that you're willing to hear. One last thing: it's interesting to me to read how often people who dislike BOTT slam Camero in particular when, to my ears, it's the closest thing to YAYM or ASH on the album.

Because of the times is my first KOL album and I love it, but I'm catching up with the old two and as different they are from the third one, I love the music, but it's all BECAUSE OF THE TIMES.
